CLIENT NEWS & SPOTLIGHTS MOFFITT CANCER CENTER PLAYED PIVOTAL ROLE IN THE FDA’S APPROVAL OF THE NEW ANTI-PD-1 INHIBITOR KEYTRUNDA FOR METASTIC MELANOMA The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the approval of this new cancer immunotherapy September 4, 2014. The approval of Keytruda addresses an unmet medical need for patients with advanced or unresectable melanoma whose cancer has progressed on prior therapies. Jeffrey S. Weber, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Donald A. Adam Comprehensive Melanoma Research Center of Excellence at Moffitt Cancer Center, was one of the lead investigators of the PD-1 clinical trial, which led to the drug receiving breakthrough status from the FDA. The FDA approval of Keytruda will provide another treatment option to metastatic melanoma patients. One patient who enrolled in the clinical trial for this drug stated that his tumors were reduced, and he was able to continue working without the side effects and energy loss that some treatments may cause. NEW PARTNERSHIP HELPS CANCER PATIENTS CARE FOR THEIR PETS SEATTLE CANCER CARE ALLIANCE. SCCA and the Seattle Humane Society are partnering to help keep people and their pets together when the comfort of a pet is needed most. The Seattle Humane Society’s Pet Project has provided food and primary veterinary care to people with HIV/AIDS for 25 years and is expanding its services to include low-income cancer patients referred by SCCA. Current SCCA patients who have multiple monthly appointments and meet the program’s income criteria are eligible to participate in the Pet Project. The program matches clients with volunteers who deliver monthly pet food and supplies, and holds bi-monthly veterinary clinics so that pets can get annual exams, vaccinations, flea medications, and dental cleanings. All of the services and supplies are donated or purchased with donated funds. READ MORE>>

UPCOMING ENHANCEMENTS: TREATMENT CALENDAR & PROTOCOL VARIANCE By Scott Voigt, Oncology Strategist

TREATMENT CALENDAR We are very excited to announce the upcoming release of a large innovation within the PowerChart Oncology functionality, a tool we are calling Treatment Calendar. The need for the Treatment Calendar was borne out of a couple workflow gaps in patientclinician interactions. First, the Treatment Calendar provides a clinical and patientfriendly summary of the patient’s planned treatment. It provides the ability for an end-user, typically a nurse or nurse navigator, to create an easily consumable calendar

containing items such as a patient’s appointments, prescription information, and relevant notes. This will help improve communication among clinicians on the patient’s planned treatment and timing. The Treatment Calendar will be able to be printed and handed to a patient at any time. This will improve communication with the patient by providing them with a real-time visual of where they are in their treatment and appointments and prescriptions. Another workflow gap that this functionality addresses is the ability to schedule future cycles of chemotherapy prior to actually ordering

those cycles. Today, we have the ability to utilize orders within PowerPlans to request appointments for the days of treatment within that PowerPlan. However, those requests will not be sent to scheduling until that PowerPlan is ordered. Clients have requested the ability to schedule multiple cycles of chemotherapy in the future to be able to secure chair time as well as provide the patient plenty of lead time for planning and preparation. The Treatment Calendar functionality allows for the ability to send scheduling requests for future cycles of chemotherapy, when utilizing regimens, prior to actually ordering those cycles of chemotherapy. All of these features combined create what we believe will be a highly utilized tool within the daily activities of our PowerChart Oncology users. Treatment Calendar is currently with testing partners and pending their validation will be released to all clients.

PROTOCOL VARIANCE Our newest development within the ordering workflow of chemotherapy is an extremely useful tool called Protocol Variance. This initiative provides the functionality to detect differences between an ordered PowerPlan or Regimen and the reference build of the PowerPlan or Regimen. It also displays those variances to providers in a meaningful way within the ordering process. It allows the provider to see what changes have been made in previous cycles and determine whether to continue those modifications or make further changes to the patient’s treatment plan. We are excited by the possibility of Protocol Variance also being a verification tool for all clinicians. By quickly and easily displaying the differences between the ordered protocol and the defined protocol, clinicians can evaluate the PowerPlan for

appropriateness and validity. Overall, we expect ordering providers, pharmacists, and nurses to use this functionality. Protocol Variance has been developed to display in one of two ways. First, within the view of a Regimen, we have the ability to display a variance viewer across the bottom. The variance viewer will give the user a brief snapshot into the variances that may have occurred within a cycle of treatment. By hovering or clicking into each cycle, the user can gain more information about the exact variance that occurred and what the protocol standard was. Additionally, the ability to compare cycles and track changes between those cycles can be done with the variance viewer with a Regimen.

The second location to track Protocol Variance is within PowerOrders on the bottom left of the screen. Variance is available as a band that can be expanded to see the variance for any PowerPlan. This can be useful when a provider is in the process of ordering a PowerPlan, they can use the variance viewer to see what was changed in previous cycles of treatment. The functionality embedded within Protocol Variance and its applicability to the workflow of PowerChart Oncology users has us very excited about the potential adoption and benefits of this enhancement. Protocol Variance is currently with testing partners and will be released to all clients pending the testing partners validation.
