Patrizia’s Blog During the month of July, Kaisha Weldy, Dr Jeff Wall and I had the opportunity to trav‐ el to the UK. We were able to visit three trusts while there: Wirral University Teaching Hospital Trust, Imperial College Healthcare Trust and Croydon Health Services Trust. They each are at different stages of implemen ng PowerChart Maternity and FetaLink so it was a good mixed experience. Imperial College Trust

On Monday we visited Imperial College Trust. Although we could have easily crossed the canal from Cerner’s London office to St Mary’s, the team decided to have us visit Queen Charlo e and Chelsea Hospital in Hammersmith. This was a great opportunity to visit one of oldest hospitals in Europe also renowned for their fetal medicine services. It has a unique history originally being founded in 1739 and moving mul ple mes in its history. Of course, Dr Wall gave us all a brief history of the importance of Queen Charlo e in obstetrical history. While touring the hospital, we ran into one of the doctors who delivered Prince George….coincidentally just shy of his first birthday. Imperial has been live with PowerChart Mater‐ nity for only a few months. They are currently using the system to document the booking visit (aka ini al prenatal visit) and then delivery and postnatal informa on. Through‐ out much of the UK, the ongoing antenatal visits happen in the community to which we are working to op mize the workflow. Community midwives play such an integral role in the UK both during the antenatal period but especially during the postnatal period. Most women go home a er a vaginal delivery within 6‐12 hours but have amazing care in the home. They are visited mul ple mes by midwives to ensure all is going well with both the mom and baby.

On Tuesday morning we visited Croydon University Hospital. Croydon is south of London and we had to take the ‘Tube’ and a train to get there. Once at the train sta on we couldn’t find a taxi so we walked nearly 45 minutes trying to get to the hospital. The hospital sees a much diversified popula on including many foreigners who have had no prenatal care or don’t speak English.

While there we spoke to the project team as Croydon is in the midst of design and build and plan on being live with PowerChart Maternity spring of 2015. We also got a tour of their maternity facili es. We loved their birthing rooms. They were so spacious and colorful; a great space for a baby to make an entrance into the world. Below are a few pics including a tub for water‐births.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital Trust Wednesday through Friday took us to Liverpool, England. Some may know it as the home of the Fab Four, but it’s also where one stays to head over to the Wirral, a peninsula with the River Mersey, River Dee and Irish Sea surrounding it. We were also surrounded by golfing as much to our ignorance we realized the Bri sh Open was going on while we were there (no Tiger sigh ngs though).

Do you have good news to share about your facility? We’d love to share it with our community members.

Send your information to WomensHealth@Cerner.com and we will include it in our monthly newsletter.

The Wirral has been live with both PowerChart Maternity and FetaLink for over a year and were our first UK partner to be live with FetaLink. We spent much of our me walking through the Women and Children’s Hospital through various areas such as the Maternity Ward (both antenatal and postnatal pa ents stay here), Delivery Suite (laboring unit), Antenatal Clinic (for more high risk pa ents that see a consultant (aka doctor)), Antenatal Booking Unit and the Fetal Monitoring Unit (where they do CTGs/ NSTs). Overall, our week in the UK was rewarding. We got a lot out of it and very much appreciate the hospitality of all the trusts. We know they are all excited about the revised partogram and we are excited to ‘deliver’ it to them – and hopefully recruited some usability testers. It was interes ng to see the differences in maternity care in this part of the world especially midwifery‐led care. However, even with the differ‐ ences we all share one common goal which is to provide safe and effec ve care and delivering happy, healthy babies.

Magee–Women’s Hospital of UPMC Dr. Carey Andrew‐Jaja, the Singing Doctor of Magee‐Women’s Hospital, was recently featured on ABC News. “I’ve delivered about 8,000 babies and I must have sung at least to six or 7,000 of them,” Dr. Carey Andrew‐Jaja told the news site. According to ABC, Andrew‐Jaja is but the successor of the adorable tradi on, learning as a young resident from a physician who sang to newborns. “He was about to re re. He asked me to con nue the tradi on,” Andrew‐Jaja said. “And I’ve done it ever since.” “When I’m singing to those babies I think I’m singing to a future important person. That’s the credit I give to all of them. So to me it’s a wonderful thing in my hand, the miracle of life, and the rest of it is that it’s a beau ful world we live in,” the doctor added in another video posted by the University of Pi sburgh Medical Center on YouTube. I am originally from Phoenix, Arizona and received my BSN from Grand Canyon University in 2013. I have been a RN for over 5 years and have worked predominately in postpartum and NICU. Prior to coming to Cerner I was lucky enough to work with the same team of nurses at West Valley Hospital for my en re nursing career. In my free me I enjoy watching sports and try to take in at least one out of town football game every season. I am a huge Arizona Cardinals fan and I try to make it to as many games as I can. My family has been sea‐ son cket holders since they moved to Arizona in 1988.

The FetaLink Implementa on team will periodically post topics related to the FetaLink solu on. This blog is not meant to replace official FetaLink documenta on and train‐ ing ‐ the FetaLink Wiki page s ll remains the go‐to place for detailed instruc on on all things FetaLink. Rather, this blog will serve as an addi onal resource meant to offer our assistance with various FetaLink topics. Here, our intent is to supplement, refresh, and expand informa on provided in documenta on and past training for use by all FetaLink clients in a casual forum, no ma er if you are currently live, implemen ng, or upgrading! The following is an excerpt from the first blog post discussing Log Files and how to access them in iBus: Frequently, the most useful informaƟon for helping troubleshoot the FetaLink applicaƟon can be found in the applicaƟon log files. Even though the informaƟon in these files may be a bit crypƟc at Ɵmes, it can be incredibly valuable to the trained members of the SoluƟonWorks Direct Care team. There are a variety of places that FetaLink logs out informaƟon to. Logs for the FetaLink and P2DA locally installed applicaƟons reside on the PC, while the logs for the iBus services live on the iBus itself. Hopefully, this post will help making finding them and understanding their purpose in troubleshooƟng a bit clearer. The FetaLink applicaƟon log file locaƟon defaults to a workspace/.metadata folder within the already created FetaLink folder that holds the applicaƟon soŌware on the PC. This should be the first place checked whenever looking for FetaLink log files. It is possible to change the default locaƟon of the FetaLink applicaƟon log files by making a change to the fetalink.ini file within the FetaLink soŌware folder.

Postpartum Hemorrhage Per the ACOG Commi ee Opinion from March 2014, “Over the past decade, severe maternal morbidity in the United States has increased by 75% for complica ons associated with delivery and, specifically, 114% for postpartum hemorrhage.” Those are shocking sta s cs and a er reading that commi ee opinion, we knew we needed to provide content and decision support to our PowerChart Maternity clients. For this reason, we have started some new projects that we’d like to share with you. The first project you will see is that we now have an obstetrical bleeding sec on in IView that will help to capture any bleeding episodes throughout the pregnancy and during the postpartum period. This sec on lives in several of our Inpa ent IViews and was released on our July 31 content package # 74811. The second project came about when AWHONN kicked off their Postpartum Hemor‐ rhage Ini a ve in June. For those of you who may not have heard about the Ini a ve, you can read about it here. One of the hospitals that AWHONN partnered with in Georgia is Floyd Medical Center who is also one of our PCM clients! In an effort to assist our clients and the popula ons that they serve, we have part‐ nered with Floyd Medical Center to help them meet the requirements for the AWHONN PPH Ini a ve. Our goal with this partnership is to develop content and decision support that will enable our clients to provide the best care in decreasing the incidence of morbidity associated with Postpartum Hemorrhage. Stay tuned for more informa on as we con nue our partnership. And, a BIG THANKS to Floyd Medical Center for working with us on this very important ini a ve!
