On the Cover
It’s almost a new year, which means it’s me to start thinking about what you can do to improve the clinician and pa ent experience. FetaLink+ is the new Women’s Health mobile app that allows providers to view FetaLink from anywhere, at any me with their favorite iOS device*.

This month’s cover baby is Elise Marie McWilliams.
“It’s actually the easiest applica on we’ve had to support,” said Jackie Naito, Lead System Analyst at The Valley Health System. “Time was really minimal; [FetaLink+] was a piece of cake.”

And what are physicians saying? John Mar n M.D. FACOG, President of Women's Health Associates of Southern Nevada stated, “My favorite, favorite thing about your FetaLink+ solu on is the PIN number. I love the PIN because its easy access and I don't have to log in.” Dr. Mar n also commented on how the “fetal heart tracings are easy to read.” FetaLink+ displays the maternal and fetal monitoring informa on that is collected at the bedside, allowing remote viewing from iOS devices*, and crea ng efficiency at the point of care. The user can view per nent results related to the pa ent’s pregnancy, including EDD, EGA, cervical exam status and gravida para. This is the year to go mobile! FetaLink+ allows clinicians to quickly view annota ons on the fetal strip, including medica ons that the pa ent has received, which offers immediate visibility to the status of the pa ent. This helps ensure a high level of care. To find out more, please contact your Cerner Client Results Execu ve (CRE) or a member of the Women’s Health sales team. * FetaLink+ is capable of running on IOS 5.1 or above on Apple iPhone and iPad.

superior care to women and newborns everywhere. Register early & save! http://www.awhonnconvention.org/
“Finalizing” is how the FetaLink system knows that you are done with that strip and you are sending it to its permanent, secure storage place. An analogy that some of us “seasoned” nurses might relate to is this: When you finalize your episode, it is just like sending that envelope of monitor strips off to Medical Records when you are done with it, where they will take care of storing them for you. Once that bundle of fetal monitor strips (or “episode”) is in permanent storage, you can view the strips and all of their annota ons in the FetaLink Archive viewer. What does finalizing do?
Sends the fetal monitor episode to permanent storage
Allows you to view the finalized episode in FetaLink Archive viewer
Allows you to access the archived strips from the Fetal Monitoring sec on on the Pregnancy Summary MPage
Removes the pa ent from FetaLink Census
Automa cally disassociates the pa ent from her fetal monitor(s), if she is s ll associated when you finalize

Did You Know continued
Prevents you from adding any more annota ons to the strip
Prevents you from making any changes to the fetal monitor device associa on or disassocia on mes
Does NOT prevent you from documen ng on the pa ent in PowerChart Maternity
Does NOT dismiss the pa ent from the PowerChart Maternity system
Why is finalizing so important?
If pa ents are le in HOLD beds indefinitely, it could eventually fill up disc space in the temporary storage loca on, which could lead to system slowness
OB Providers will not be able to access the archived strips from the Pregnancy Summary MPage.
Finalizing sends the episode to its permanent, secure, storage place.

In FetaLink 5, the familiar‐looking P2DA window will s ll come up when you select to add a monitor. Tips & Tricks Comments on Historical Pregnancies Need to know how to make comments viewable in historical pregnancies? Follow these simple steps. In the Close Pregnancy dialog, enter the desired informa on in the comment sec on, located in the lower right of the dialog box. In the example below, it was noted the pa ent requires a C‐sec on with her next pregnancy.
We would love to hear about topics you would like to see covered in future issues. The screenshot below shows how the informa on displays within the histories tab. Please send your topic suggestions to WomensHealth@Cerner.com
We look forward to hearing from
you!
If the pregnancy instance was closed before the physician could enter the comment, he/she could simply “modify” the historical pregnancy and add the comment in during the postpartum visit.

Just in me for CHC, we released new training materials for our Providers. Educa on materials have all been updated throughout all of Cerner in order to have more symmetry between solu ons. There were many materials that were repeated among special es, so a decision was made to reuse and standardize the materials to be more efficient and reduce the maintenance workload. What we ended up with was a high‐ quality set of par cipant guides, and where the special es differ, there are job aids as well as prac ce ac vi es. We started with the Provider Training Materials, but the Nursing Training Materials are next on the roadmap. We welcome your feedback with our educa on materials and would definitely be interested in your thoughts as to if they are helpful or if we need to do some addi onal work. FetaLink+ Pregnancy Summary As noted in our ar cle “Go Mobile with FetaLink+”, we introduced FetaLink+, our new mobile fetal monitoring solu on, in December of 2013. It’s been a great hit with clients who have implemented it thus far and we’re happy to announce further updates.
December Babies
For the next phase of FetaLink+, development we will be adding a Pregnancy Summary view, which will provide a more comprehensive look of the pa ent’s clinical story. This will offer informa on that is similar to what OB Providers can currently see on the desktop applica on of PowerChart Maternity. The OB Provider will be able to navigate from the live fetal monitor strip to a Review tab which will display this informa on. The OB Provider will be able to tap on the arrows on the right side to drill down into that sec on for even more detail if desired.
