Tips and Tricks
American Heart Month
The Labor Graph/Partogram is a graphic summary of a patient's labor progress. The graph is linked to a specific pregnancy. The patient header displays at the top and contains the patient information and the Ruptured Membranes Date/Time with the system calculated Ruptured Membranes Total Hours/Minute time. The Partogram contains the fetal heart rate graph, the labor curve graph (Friedman’s Curve), a flowsheet that displays site defined details of the labor, and the maternal vital signs graph in view-only format. The user can access the Partogram from the following locations:

Pregnancy History (OB/GYN tab) within the History Module (displays the past Partogram for that particular pregnancy).
Fetal Heart Rate (FHR) graph displays the documented/signed results of the FHR.
You can find heart-healthy recipes and snack ideas at the Go Red for Women website: http://www.goredforwomen.org/ home/live-healthy/heart-healthyrecipes/
Hovering over the data point shows the date/time of the result in the tool-tip. A documented FHR result that is above or below the defined normal range values are displayed in red. Multiple gestations are displayed with a unique symbol and color for each fetus. A legend also displays to the left of the graph (under the words Fetal Heart Rate) depicting the relationship between symbol and fetus (only for multiple gestations). The Labor Graph displays the cervical dilatation, fetal station, and epidural information. For our global clients, Fifths Palpable can be used rather than Fetal Station. This is a configuration option.

Illuminations
A legend is displayed to the left of the graph depicting the relationship between symbol and color and the meaning. Alert and Action lines are displayed with red dashed lines. The alert/action lines serve as a visual guide to the clinician, supporting decision making, if the patient is not progressing in her labor along the normal timelines. Once dilated to 4 centimeters, the expectation is that she should dilate at least 1 cm/hr. If the patient takes longer than that, she falls into the range between alert and action. If she continues to progress slower than normal, she falls outside the range on the action side of the graph, which strongly suggests to the clinician that intervention is. The display or hide button is available so the clinician can reference or remove at their discretion.

Maintaining Industry Awareness Is Cerner prepared for ICD 10? You have probably heard rumors about changing the way that the health industry currently codes for medical billing/reimbursement within the United States – from ICD 9 to ICD 10. The date for this change is set for October 1, 2014. Cerner is ready for the switch! We are already successfully supporting over a dozen clients in the international market that are utilizing ICD 10. You might be wondering why the change. Simply stated – ICD 9 is 30 years old and is running out of room for new codes. ICD 10 allows expanding codes for additional details surrounding the diagnosis in order to give a more complete picture for reimbursement. This new classification will allow for inclusion of such matters as social economics, problems related to lifestyles, laterality of organ/body part, preventative healthcare, family relationships, and screening exams results….just to name a few.
CareFusion, CenTrak, Hill-Rom, Philips Healthcare, Spacelabs, Welch Allyn and many others

Cerner supports the clinician as they document their patient note. The system will alert the clinician for clarifications or modifications needed within the note. It will be querying a comprehensive set of information in the background – the current note, previous notes and relevant discrete data (labs, medications, nursing notes) – in order to make sure that the coding and documentation support each other.

We are working on the next major release of FetaLink, known as FetaLink 2013.01. This version will have some exciting new functionality, including a new Signal Strength Alert as well as the ability to smoothly scroll through an archived strip. We are looking for 2-3 clients to be Solution Testing Partners for this new code. You will have an opportunity to access early iterations of the code and provide your valuable opinions on the design and the functionality. Because clinical feedback is essential, we are requesting that Solution Testing Partners identify at least one clinician at each site who can be available to test the functionality and provide feedback to us. Early versions of this code are expected to be available towards the end of Q1 or early Q2 (late March - early April). Our goal is to make this release generally available to all clients by the end of Q2. Technical requirements to be a Solution Testing Partner:
FetaLink
iBus 2.1
Non-prod domain available for testing
CernerWorks Hosted (RHO)
Expectations for a Solution Testing Partner:
Attend a monthly one-hour Live Meeting call where we will demo the new functionality to you
Take early versions of the FetaLink package into a non-production environment
Test new functionality as it becomes available at your site
Provide timely feedback to Cerner Women’s Health so that we can ensure optimal design
Communication with your IT department and your technical team is essential to coordinate the installation and testing process. Please ensure your IT department also has resources to provide support during this testing process. If you are interested in partnering with us on this new release, please email Jill.meier@cerner.com We will work with your Cerner representative to coordinate the details.
