In the Good Ol’ Summertime

The iconic jingle, “Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet, they go together in the good ol’ USA” remains ingrained in my memory as the embodiment of things we hold dear in America – from sports to food and of course, the automobile. This jingle also reminds me of the good ol’ summertime with hot hazy days in the pool and cool scented breezes in the evening. It was always a great time filled with fun, family and friends. I hope you, too, have memories of the good ol’ summertime!

Our cover story highlights the specialists at Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine at Sugar Land. Complex multi-ligament injuries used to be devastating; however, with Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicines’ highly advanced approach to surgery and recovery, athletes and weekend warriors can regain full mobility. Read about rebuilding the knee on page 4. Also take a look at our Medical Focus section as it’s one not to be missed. There you will find many articles from family physicians and specialists throughout our community.

Back to School is around the corner! So put away the beach bag and pick up the backpack. Our Brazos community has some excellent private schools that offer top notch quality education. To help parents get one step ahead, read our Back to School! section on page 10.

From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbeques. Fort Bend will be heating up with several events this year. I hope you will try one, and let us know your favorite!

Now, get out and enjoy some exciting activities in the good ol’ summertime! Wishing everyone a Happy 4th of July! Thank you to all service men and women past and present for the sacrifice you make each day to keep us safe and our country free!

Absolutely yours,

Kay and Jim Garrett enjoying a summer evening at the ballpark with grandsons Canon and Graham Kiehl.
