Founded in 1906 by Jack Townend, House of Townend has prospered for over 110 years. It is now run by fourth generation, John Charles Townend, who has established our Hull based family company as the leading independent, family run wine merchants in the North of England. The company strives to give the best possible range of quality wines at competitive prices, and offer a service level to be proud of. Although our company story dates back well over 100 years, our Cellar Door’s history is 9 years in the making and counting. In May 2011 we opened the doors to our Cellar Door Wine Shop, to offer the people of East Yorkshire a range of great wine from good everyday drinking wines to fine wines for all occasions. It was an opportunity to showcase our relationships with the many wineries, domaines and châteaux we
have worked with over the past few decades. One of the big advantages we are able to offer our customers is the fact that we work directly with a large number of our suppliers, and so ship directly from all over the world into our bonded warehouse here at Melton. Whilst developing the concept of the Cellar Door, one of the key areas we wanted to focus on was tastings. With that in mind, we developed our versatile tasting space, which can be used for any number of occasions from small intimate groups through to networking and portfolio events that hold up to 120 people. Over the last few years not only have we added more wines to our range, we have also developed our spirit portfolio with over 150 whiskies and 250 gins alongside many other interesting spirits.
Awards This year we were delighted to be shortlisted in the Decanter Retailer Awards 2019 in 4 categories; - Burgundy Specialist of the Year (Runner Up) - Bordeaux Specialist of the Year - Online Retailer of the Year - Local Wine Shop of the Year House of Townend have also been awarded the International Wine Challenge Regional Merchant of the Year for North East England 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014, and the International Wine Challenge Regional Merchant of the Year for Northern England 2017. We have also been named the winner of the Corporate Live Wire Innovation and Excellence Awards - Independent Wine Merchant of the Year for both 2017 and 2018, and were shortlisted for the Drinks Business Awards Independent Retailer of the Year, 2019.

Our relationship with the award winning Champagne Gardet is one of the longest and strongest we have. Established in 1895 by Charles Gardet, Gardet is now owned by the Prieux family and exemplifies the high standard of Champagnes attainable by the smaller Champagne Houses. Deeply attached to its roots in the Champagne region, Gardet combines 21st century technology with the tradition inspired by the founder of the House, to produce Champagnes of outstanding quality. Although the Prieux family have retained the features of the style of wine made over the years, they have slightly refined it to be a little more forward-drinking with more fruit freshness and balance. Made from a blend of 45% Pinot Noir, 45% Pinot Meunier and 10% Chardonnay, the Origine is light, refreshing and well-structured with notes of stone fruits, yeast and toasty hazelnuts. A fantastic Champagne to toast the festive season or welcome in the New Year!

This vintage is a blend of 65% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and Syrah, and 5% Cinsault. The wine is its usual resplendent enigmatic self, the sweet and the savoury vying for attention and both held back by firm tannins. Harmonious and elegant nonetheless.

LES TOURELLES DE LONGUEVILLE 2011 - TOUR160 | £39.99 Over the last 30 years Château Pichon-Baron has produced some of the most iconic wines of Bordeaux, whereas this, its younger brother, has been a bit of a wine trade secret, giving its fans not just a glimpse of the Grand Vin, but something truly fantastic in its own right. 2011 was a great vintage at this estate, and Les Tourelles is characterised by its purity of cassis fruit, its gorgeous silky texture, and an opulent full-bodied style which eclipses many a Cru Classé. 3. PRIEST RANCH CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 2014 - PRIE015 | £49.99 Priest Ranch wines embody the essence of the Napa Valley and are a breath-taking and outstanding range. The aromas of this 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon are full of black cherries, star anise, and a touch of earth. A rich full-bodied wine which has good concentration, supple tannins, and balanced acidity. The rounded mouthfeel is persistent on the long and lingering finish.

The slight smoked-meat character from the Burgundy-sourced barrels integrate into the mid palate and meld with a dark cherry note on the finish. | 17

A well balanced palate between the dominant fruity flavours and floral notes. 3. JORDAN CHARDONNAY, 2016 - JORD020 | £44.99 Jordan Vineyard & Winery, one of California’s most awarded wine estates, was inspired by the great wines of Burgundy and Bordeaux and is world class on every level! Refined aromas of green apple, pear and lemon peel with a flinty note reminiscent of Chablis. A touch of creaminess on the mid-palate is followed by lovely mineral notes that carry through an extraordinarily long finish. The perfect match to a whole cooked Salmon with dill and lemon dressing.

LÉVRIER BY JO IRVINE
Meet the Producer
‘Lévrier by Jo Irvine’ is the latest project of acclaimed multi award winning winemaker, Jo Irvine. Red Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge and Double Trophy winner at the Decanter World Wine Awards, Jo is one of Australia’s top winemakers producing wines of great individuality and quality. Daughter of ‘Mr Merlot’, Jim Irvine, Jo has also championed Australian Zinfandel, previously winning ‘Best Zinfandel in the World’ at the International Wine Challenge.
Lévrier is French for greyhound, animals close to Jo’s heart, having looked after rescued greyhounds for 20 years. Each wine in the range is named after a famous greyhound. Jo personally selects single vineyard fruit from dedicated Barossa and Eden Valley growers, using specifically coopered new French oak barrels to produce this range of ground breaking wines, which we think are quite outstanding. She produces her Lévrier in a 500 tonne purpose built, small batch processing facility in the Barossa Valley. Jo believes that “Great wines are created by synergy and attention to detail both in the vineyard and the winery”. She is passionate about the quality of the wines that she produces and is now enjoying worldwide recognition for the wines she has created.

RUM We have all marvelled at the increase in popularity of spirits over the years. From the global surge in Malt Whisky that started back in the late 1990s through to the explosion of the Craft Gin in the UK over the last 6 years. ...WITH A RUM COCKTAIL CHRISTMAS GINGERBREAD
Our rum and ginger cocktail is packed with delicious ingredients to give it a festive twist including warming honey, cranberry juice and a grating of fresh nutmeg. 50ml Rum (Stu loves the Hampden Estate Rum) 30ml ginger beer (we love Fever-Tree Ginger Beer) 10ml ginger wine 20ml cranberry juice 15ml freshly squeezed lime juice 10g fresh ginger 5ml honey Nutmeg (grating) Prosecco (optional) Chop or grate the fresh ginger. Muddle the ginger with lime juice and honey in a shaker glass. Shake with the rum, cranberry juice and ginger wine. Sieve into a Champagne coupe or flute over ice and top up with either ginger beer or Prosecco. Dust with nutmeg and drink.

OLD-FASHIONED This Whisky Cocktail is an out-and-out classic of the 1960s that will make you feel like a member of the Rat Pack in no time! 1 thick slice orange peel 1 maraschino cherry, with stem 1 tsp sugar syrup (also sold as gomme syrup) 2-3 drops whisky bitters Ice cubes, as necessary 50ml/2fl oz Michter’s Bourbon Twist of lemon peel, to garnish Take the orange peel and squeeze it with your fingers. Rub the peel around the insides of a whisky tumbler, then place into the glass. Add the cherry, sugar syrup and bitters, along with three ice cubes. Add half of the Bourbon and stir for about ten seconds. Add more ice and the remaining Bourbon and stir again for 10-15 seconds. To serve, garnish with lemon peel.

TERMS and CONDITIONS
Standard delivery is £9.95 per order for each delivery address within the UK Mainland where the order is under £100. Orders of £100 or over per delivery address are delivered FREE of charge (Scottish Highlands and non-Mainland deliveries excluded).
RETURNS POLICY
For any orders placed before 12pm we also offer express delivery at a price of £11.95 whatever the order value (two working days). Alternatively you can collect your order from our Cellar Door for free. Orders placed before 5pm will be ready for collection the next working day. Our usual delivery times are between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday, and we aim to deliver within 5 working days. If you are not going to be available to take delivery, please state a safe place where we can leave the wine. Alternatively, if you are not home and you have not specified a place to leave the wine, our driver will leave a card and so that we can arrange a more convenient delivery time.

VINTAGE CHANGES/ STOCK ISSUES
Due to high demand and constantly changing vintages, we may from time to time have to change the wines that you have ordered. We will send to you the closest vintage available to what has been ordered. If there is a stock issue with a product that you have ordered, we will offer an alternative for the equivalent value so as not to delay the order from getting to you within our delivery terms.
