SYNOPSIS
New Roads, LA
Dear Sir or Madam, Enthusiasm is what I feel as I become closer to fulfilling my dream as a licensed architect. I am a first generation graduate student from a small rural area known as New Roads, Louisiana. I am seeking an opportunity to share my vision of architectural designs, while continuing to develop my skills in the profession. I would like to positively make a change in this world as a designer. I feel that I can be an asset to your firm by providing innovative and leading-edge design solutions. I am expecting to learn new concepts and applications along with working with individuals who share my passion for design. Ultimately, I wish to use my designs to contribute to a more resilient world by bringing more sustainability and equity in various communities. I plan on investing further into my education and future by obtaining a master’s degree which will help refine my design skills. I eventually plan on partnering with or starting my own firm one day. Please contact me if you feel that I am the right fit for your architecture firm. Sincerely, Arzavia Dobard

TRAVERSING PLANES
FOR 40 YEARS, THE ISRAELITES WANDERED THE WILDERNESS, CONSTRUCTING SUKKAHS. LIKE THE RIPPLING LANDSCAPE OF THE DESERT SANDS, OUR SUKKAH GENERATES A VERTICAL LANDSCAPE THAT USERS WOULD TRAVEL, TRESPASS, AND REST WITHIN. SPACES OF REST ARE DEFINED BY A CONTINUOUS INTERWOVEN STRUCTURE THAT CIRCUMNAVIGATES TO AND FROM A CENTRAL CORE. IN ITS UNINTERRUPTED VISION TO THE STARS FROM THE GROUND, THE CORE OFFERS A SINGULAR VIEW OF THE ONE GOD THAT HAS CONSTANTLY WATCHED OVER THE TRAVELER IN THEIR JOURNEY. THE ENVELOPE IS DISSECTED BY TWELVE STRUCTURAL FRAMES, MARKING THE TWELVE TRIBES OF ISRAEL. UNITED UNDER A COLLECTIVE, EACH BAY IS CHARACTERISTICALLY DIFFERENT, WITH DIFFERENT PERFORATIONS, EXPOSURE, AND NESTED OVERHANGS. THE CONDITION OF THE HUMAN BODY TO ENTER THE THREE PORTALS TO THE SUKKAH, FOLLOWS THE JEWISH MYSTICAL TRADITION OF THE KABBALAH, OF WHICH IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE SOUL CONSISTS OF THREE PARTS, WITH THE HIGHEST BEING NESHAMAH — BREATH —, THE MIDDLE BEING RUACH — WIND OR SPIRIT —, AND THE LOWEST BEING NEFESH — REPOSE. WHERE SKY AND GROUND BECOME ONE, THE TRAVELER IS SURROUNDED BY A REMINISCENCE OF TRAVERSED PLANES, TO ADMIRE AND APPRECIATE GOD’S PROTECTION IN THEIR JOURNEY.
Construction of Sukkah that I did not get to help with.

CONNECT CONNECT GRADUATE META COURSE STUDIO Architecture is immensely influenced by continuous changes in contextual morphologies, economies, and demographics. As a result, the displacement of culture, infrastructure, architecture, and people have occurred over several lifetimes. This altered fabric of a city is fortunate for some but paralyzing to others. The ongoing displacement of innocent people is happening around the world, and, within the United States. This causes a lack of exposure to a lifestyle that fosters both physical and mental health. This project addresses this lack of healthy lifestyle options for East Oakland through a cultural hub that focuses on a range of diverse housing options and strengthens connections to the context. Through multiple forms of connectivity, an anti-displacement strategy provides patrons of the site a new-found sense of belonging and self through an oasis intervention during today’s archaic current events.

URBAN CORE URBAN CORE UNDERGRADUATE COMPREHENSIVE STUDIO Urbanism is primarily about visual and programmatic connectivity. Connection between humans and defined urban spaces, and how individuals interact in those spaces, is what defines great architecture. Assessment of the types of interactions a building could provide, while maintaining density, could go a long way in creating a more resilient urban structure. Spatial qualities formed from successful architecture must be functional, engaging, and appealing to the eye, so that people are effortlessly brought back to the space. Creating numerous artifacts for the city can promote Lafayette’s culture and run counter to urban stereotypes. Ideally, displaying culture from downtown by transitioning through permanence and impermanence will facilitate a connective and projective idea of contradictions from the downtown. These spaces may show variation but similarities on the site. The site significantly sits on the edge of downtown but shall consist of elements that acts as a collage of artifacts emphasizing our dynamic culture deep within, while also contributing to an experience of urbanism at different scales.

VESSEL VESSEL UNDERGRADUATE CONCEPTUAL STUDIO Restoration of a pre-existing site condition, once being a local watering hole, shall act as a green sanctuary. By using adaptive reuse architecture to conserve and reactivate the space can immensely help emphasize how old and new can work effectively and cooperatively. Owned by a minority, multi-generational family who welcomes the public into an astonishing floral shop suggests educating the community on how to nourish natural resources while coexisting in poverty income areas. Engaging the clients and locals with these sequential spaces by showing how containing and not containing individuals shall demonstrate how to effectively public realms of green space can address multi-generational living into an Urban context within the 21st Century. An elderly woman who has a green thumb, accommodated by her tech savvy, artistic grandson, shall prosper in this urban environment and positively affect their surroundings. Programmatically, a multi-gen family at this residence will have a daily biophilic experience right in their garden. The garden acts as a semi-private vessel surrounded by adjacent private and public spaces. This semi-private space shall help restore health by reducing stress, boosting cognitive functioning, and enhancing mood and creativity whilst informing how a greenery can be an artifact which dictates the spaces. Whoever has the fortunes of experiencing the vessel will generally increase health by promoting well-being, productivity, and inspiration. The structure shall also respectfully minimize the impact of new construction to the adjacent context by keeping a similar material in relation to the adjacent structures.

PATISSERIE OASIS PATISSERIE OASIS UNDERGRADUATE CONCEPTUAL STUDIO Here lies an extravagant structure located deep within the urbanized city where one can enjoy a quick espresso while shopping for fresh fruits in our Whole Foods Market. Music and culture are highly appreciated inside our local Blue Dog cafe as well. There are two local firms located on our second floor, an architect and an interior section with various “WeWork’’ office spaces rentable for tenants and Lafayette’s residents. Whether you are enjoying your Starbuck’s coffee on the rooftop or inside Carpe Diem, the fresh aroma from plants combined with collaboration of steel and wood should intrigue and inspire one to visit the space again.
