The Best Sailors. The Fastest Boats.
America’s Cup racing is coming to San Francisco - the host city of the 34th America’s Cup. In August and October of 2012, San Francisco Bay will see its first Cup racing with the 2012-13 AC World Series, leading up to the premier events of 2013 - the Louis Vuitton Cup (America’s Cup Challenger Series)
a new era
and the America’s Cup Finals. In addition to being the oldest trophy in international sport - predating the modern Olympics by 45 years - the America’s Cup is, by a considerable margin, also the toughest to win. Consider that over more than 160-years of history, only four different nations have captured the Cup. But despite its age, the America’s Cup has always been at the cutting edge of technology, from the design and build of the boats, to communications to performance data sunglasses featuring a heads-up display. The 2013 America’s Cup continues on that path, but at breakneck speed. The boats are wing-sailed catamarans, capable of sailing at twice the windspeed. Sailing fast is easy, maintaining control is critical, and the physical challenge imposed on the athletes is immense. The AC45 catamarans in the AC World Series approach 30 knots (35mph/55kph). In short, the 34th America’s Cup is intense, exciting and mesmerizing with the best sailors in the world racing the fastest boats on the planet. America’s cup club
