Setting Up your Higher Education Instructor Account If you already have a Cambridge Core account, you can use the same email address and password details to log into the Higher Education site. Please make sure that you have selected “I am an instructor” within your Account Settings, found within the Account Dashboard, or ensure you select it when you register for the first time. We do validate all instructor accounts in order to maintain the security of freely accessible supplementary materials. If you don’t have a Cambridge Core account, you can set up an account by selecting the Register button on the top right of the Higher Education homepage. You will then be redirected to the Cambridge Core platform to fill out a short form asking for your name, Institutional email address, organisation and country. Once you have registered, you will receive a verification email. If you do not receive your verification email, please check your junk email folder. If you are sure that you haven’t received a verification email to the correct address, please visit the Help page on Cambridge Core for information about whom to contact.

Why Register for an Instructor Account? By creating an account as an instructor through the Higher Education website, examination copy requests are processed more efficiently based on your account details. With this new system, you will receive a notification that the request has been processed, and you will be able to track the progress of the request in your account. This will include notification that a copy of the book is on its way to you, if the request is approved. You can request examination copies as print books or eBooks. To ensure secure delivery, we prefer to send print copies to your institutional address. However, in certain circumstances, we can agree to send print copies to non-institutional addresses. In such cases, please enter the second address after your institutional address. With a personal account, you will also be able to access instructor resources for textbooks more easily. For more information on instructor resources, please go to page 7. All of this information will be shown on your Account Dashboard, where you will be able to view your examination copy requests, the instructor resources you have access to, and your offline bookshelf via Cambridge Spiral.

Dual Log in: Why? When your institution purchases a textbook or collection, your institutional login via Shibboleth, Athens, or any other system is required to access the book online. To use the enhanced functionality, including personalised annotations and bookmarking, you will also need a to create a personal Higher Education account. Enhanced functionality includes: • Downloading and reading e-textbooks offline with our new e-reader app, Cambridge Spiral. More information on Cambridge Spiral can be found on Page 5. • Annotations: users can directly make notes into their version of the e-textbook without impacting other users also reading the book • Citations exporting • Bookmarking • Limited copy/paste and print: up to 15% of a textbook We recommend using the following text to distribute this information to your students in your syllabus, or your first day of class lecture slides. We also recommend inputting the download instructions for Cambridge Spiral on page 6.

Whilst you can access the digital version of this textbook through the library without a personal account (“Guest access”), in order to access the full functionality of Cambridge Spiral eReader, you will also need to create a Higher Education from Cambridge University Press account. To access the textbook for offline reading, please download the Cambridge Spiral e-reader app, as either a mobile or desktop app, or both. Download instructions for different systems will follow. You will be able to view your personal bookshelf, bookmarks, and account settings on your Account Dashboard once set up. For more access FAQs, please read here. What is Cambridge Spiral? Cambridge Spiral is the new e-reader app that allows students and faculty alike to download textbooks that their institution enables access to, in order to read offline. Cambridge Spiral is available across a variety of applications, both desktop and mobile, and for a range of systems. Once installed, the app will provide access to digital products even without an internet connection. You can find the list of download options on page 6.

Offline Reading from Desktop or Laptop To store up to 20 books that your institution has access to across all your devices, add each book to your offline reading list. This can be done by selecting the ‘Add to offline bookshelf’ button on the book’s webpage. These books will then be available for you to read, annotate, bookmark, etc. whether or not you are connected to the internet. When you no longer need a book offline, you can remove it by selecting the ‘Remove from online bookshelf’ button on the book’s webpage.

Offline reading from mobile devices Offline reading is available in a range of mobile applications (apps) across multiple devices. The offline app is called Cambridge Spiral. Users are required to download the Cambridge Spiral app to read textbooks offline. Once installed, the app will provide access to digital products even without an internet connection. Download the relevant app from the list below and follow the instructions to gain offline access to your digital textbook. When you open the Cambridge Spiral app you will see your bookshelf, with titles you have recently read online and any that have been added to your offline reading list. To download a book, select the circle in the middle of its cover. Books that are added to your bookshelf via your laptop will be available to read via both your laptop and your mobile device.

Textbook Resources and Supplementary Materials Resources are supplementary materials available to use with textbooks. If a textbook has a Resources tab, Resources exist for that title and can be viewed via that tab. There are two types of resources: General Resources, which are free to download without restrictions, and Instructor Resources, which require the user to be validated as an instructor.

Instructor Access When accessing Instructor Resources, you must request access via the ‘Unlock instructor resources’ button. Accessing this button is only available if you are logged into your account and have declared yourself as an instructor when you registered for your account. If you need to be set as an instructor after you have registered, please go to your Account Settings within the Account Dashboard and select the “I am an Instructor” box underneath your organisation name. Once your request has been processed, the Instructor Resources for that title will be unlocked for you. You will receive confirmation via your registered email address, and a green tick will be shown against the previously locked resources on the site.

Student Access If you are using a textbook which has student-facing supplementary materials such as videos, we recommend copying the following section into your syllabus notes. Please note that not all textbooks will have student materials that accompany them. If using the text below, please also remember to format the text with any links to specific textbook pages on the Higher Education website if necessary.

This textbook is accompanied by free supplementary materials, which can be accessed via the textbook’s product page on the Higher Education from Cambridge University Press website. You should then select the “Resources” tab. Any student materials will be stored in the General Resources drop down, and you will be able to download all those that do not have a padlock symbol next to them.
