PUBLISHING WITH ASP

About ASP Academic Studies Press is an independent scholarly publisher devoted to advancing knowledge and understanding in the humanities and social sciences, with an emphasis on Jewish Studies and Slavic Studies. Through our outstanding, opinionleading authors and series editors, we continuously strive to enhance understanding through our monographs and critical companions, improve the accessibility of classic works through our translations, and inspire dialogue through our scholarly commentaries. We champion innovative ideas and new, creative interpretations.

First Book Program Publication with a respected scholarly press like ASP will help you to advance your academic career. ASP can help you turn your doctoral dissertation into an impressive scholarly monograph. Our peer review process for young scholars includes reports from two of your senior colleagues, one of which will focus specifically on structural and editorial recommendations. At your request, ASP can also offer in-house developmental editing of your manuscript prior to its submission for peer review. Developmental editing will enhance the likelihood of the recommendation to publish your manuscript as well as improve the academic quality and scholarly reception of your published monograph.

Why Publish with Academic Studies Press? Professionalism ASP is committed to publishing the most thought-provoking scholarship in the humanities and social sciences. We place a strong emphasis on quality and have experience publishing both the seasoned scholar and the first-time author. Our publishing program is consistent and credible. ASP is also pleased to provide a number of services not always offered by academic presses, including copyediting, proofreading, index creation, and attractive cover art design.

Peer Review ASP is committed to ensuring that every manuscript we publish contributes to the knowledge of the subject and its field and comprises overall sound scholarship. Submissions are first vetted by our Series Editors and, if met with approval, are sent through rigorous peer review. Depending on the series and type of manuscript under consideration, we typically require two double-blind peer reviews. Reviewers are always well-respected scholars in the field familiar with the monograph format.

Copyediting Our network of trained copyeditors are well-versed in the ASP style guide. Throughout the copyediting stage, ASP encourages open communication between the author and designated copyeditor to ensure that the manuscript is strengthened and representative of the authorial voice.

Collaboration We are happy to help our authors secure copyright permissions for illustrations or the republication of articles, and to assist our authors in putting together documentation to obtain research grants for their publications with us. In cases when a subvention is necessary, we work to keep costs as low as possible.

Production ASP Open Open Access expands readership beyond the printed page and democratizes the distribution of research around the globe. ASP is pleased to offer authors the opportunity to publish their manuscript as part of our ASP Open program. Learn more about ASP Open at: academicstudiespress.com/aspopen

Our experienced Production staff is ready to move any manuscript through the publication process in a timely and professional manner. We pride ourselves on having one of the fastest production timelines in the academic publishing business.

“This standout survivor’s account will move and inform even those well versed in the inhumanity of the Shoah.” — Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“Though a relatively new press, ASP has already published a large number of innovative and fundamental books in Russian studies, books written by acknowledged and young scholars alike. What distinguishes ASP from other presses is its openness for innovative approaches to scholarship and a readiness to explore subjects that other academic presses might find too ‘esoteric’ and ‘unpopular’. At the same time, for a peer-review press, it works with incredible efficiency. The process of the book publication from the submission of a manuscript to the final product appears to be two or even three times shorter than in the university presses. But most importantly, it is our press: Slavic and Russian studies constitute one of the main directions in the work of ASP, which certainly differs it from other US academic presses where our field is pushed into a back row.” —Mark Lipovetsky, University of Colorado, Boulder, “Cultural Syllabus” Series Editor

“Academic Studies Press has grown into a serious alternative to many university presses. Along with issuing extremely valuable monographs on Jewish Studies, it has established several important series devoted to Russian and Slavic literatures and cultures that present the works by the most prominent scholars in the field. The Press also seeks to create most favorable conditions for the younger scholars’ first monographs.” —Lazar Fleishman, Stanford University, “Studies in Russian and Slavic Literatures, Cultures and History” Series Editor
