Academy of Our Lady of Peace 2016-2017 School Profile Mission Statement Founded and rooted in the Gospel values of the Catholic church and the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, the Academy of Our Lady of Peace empowers young women in an innovative learning environment that honors the individual while fostering community, and develops faith-filled leaders dedicated to the “love of God and the dear neighbor without distinction.” About Us

The Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP) is a Catholic, college-preparatory school for girls sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. OLP has been educating women since 1882 and is fully accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The Class of 2016 graduated 185 students. Total enrollment is 750 students and the faculty to student ratio is 1:14. Faculty and staff have an average employment length of 12 years and 71% of faculty hold advanced degrees. Upwards of 12% of the student population is considered bi-national. These students reside in Baja California, Mexico and cross the U.S. International border daily to attend OLP. Almost half of our students are of Hispanic/Latina origin (41.5%), while 36.4% are European American, 13.3% are multi-racial/other, 6.6% are Asian/Fillipino, 1.2% are Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian and 1% are African American. Over the last three years, about 20% of our graduates have been the first in their family to attend college.

Sports offered

Leadership Training Leadership seminars are sponsored each semester on campus, and students participate in National Youth Leadership Forums throughout the country each year. Students also have more than 340 annual opportunities to participate in leadership positions on campus, including our collaborative student government with a Council of Ten and class representatives, our peer training program and our Carondelet Circle Ambassador program.

Peace Education A four-year schoolwide Peace Education Program teaches students how to cultivate inner, interpersonal and global peace through curricular and cocurricular activities. STEAM Combining Art with STEM subjects allows our students to pursue interdisciplinary education that is not typically offered at other schools.

STEM Certificate OLP’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) certificate program acknowledges students for their achievements and involvement in STEM related activities. Students who complete the requirements will receive special recognition at their commencement ceremony, as well as a seal of completion on their graduation diploma. In addition, documentation of STEM completion will be noted on their transcript. Graduation Requirements: I. Maintain a 3.0 overall GPA II. Adhere to all policies in Student/ Parent Handbook III. Complete the minimum units in each of the following categories (must maintain a 3.0 average in the following courses): • Math 40 units • Science 40 units • STEM Electives 40 units IV. STEM Portfolio (updated at the completion of each semester): • Semester reflections and coursework examples • Evidence of related activities V.
