Third Annual OLP Hackathon 2022
Life On Mars
Sponsorship Levels and Benefits
DEAR COMMUNITY PARTNER, “When I first made the decision to attend OLP for 10th grade, I didn’t truly understand the benefit of an all-girls education… But after just a few months at OLP, I was thriving and found myself more than ready to solve the world’s biggest challenges.” - Amanda Tran ’21 THE ACADEMY OF OUR LADY OF PEACE has many facets. One of the most beautiful of them is our pursuit of increasing the number of women in STEM. However, in a world that is slowly recovering from an international pandemic, we want to ensure that these said women are prepared and taught in an environment in which they feel comfortable and understood. Together with other participants, female students from 8th to 12th grade are invited from across San Diego to solve world problems. The theme varies each year, and as a former participant, I am beyond motivated by how people as young as us can solve problems within a DAY with the ability of teamwork, tenacity, and mutual respect for each other. As a member of EPICS, I am elated that this endeavor was recognized by NCGS (The National Coalition of Girls’ Schools). Our hope is to help as many girls as possible unlock a persistent, self-confident, and boundless side to them. The theme of this year is how we can sustain Life on Mars. Only 11 percent of astronauts are females, which only shows how little representation women have in aerospace and STEM. We intend to have participants ponder and plan what the economy, agriculture, medicine, and all other forms of human life would look like on Mars. Our goal is to encourage interest in space expeditions for our generation and thus generations to come. Sincerely, Ainsley Savant ‘23

OLP Hackathon
A HACKATHON FOR... WHAT IS A HACKATHON EXACTLY? A Hackathon is a meeting of the minds to challenge current notions, problem solve, create, and collaborate. OLP’s Engineering Projects in Community Service club (EPICS), the hosts of OLP’s third annual Hackathon, focuses on how STEM can solve global issues using science, technology, engineering, and math. The experience breaks a large group of people into teams, who use technology to create a new product, service, or program that alleviates a world problem. Through collaboration, diverse skillsets and expertise is shared to catalyze systemic change. During the event, teams work on creating solutions that affect different regions of the world. Ideas are incubated and solutions are challenged. At the end of the Hackathon, each team presents their solution to their designated problem to a panel of judges and prizes are awarded to the winning team. WHAT WILL ATTENDANCE LOOK LIKE? OLP’s Hackathon will be held on campus on Saturday, September 10, 2022 and we expect 80-100 girls (grades 8-12) from around the San Diego area to attend this third annual event. Each team will have 8-10 girls on the anticipated 10 teams, each team mentored by an OLP EPICS member. The day will kickoff with a keynote address and conclude with team
presentations and judging. We will host about 10 judges from notable companies in the San Diego area. We also welcome parents to the Hackathon at the end of the day for a mini expo, a chance to visit each team and learn about their solution to a grand problem. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? We are looking for a primary sponsor to bolster this amazing event. Our Champion Sponsor will help our participants see their winning idea come to life. In addition, we need sponsors to help fund our prizes as recognition of their efforts. Through sponsorship of the Hackathon, your business or organization will benefit from direct exposure to hundreds of community members interested in encouraging and supporting women and you will be aligning your company with leaders in women’s empowerment and education.

OLP’s Hackathon was honored in the in-person single day event category. This year’s judges praised OLP by stating “A student-led project is always a great idea, and this is certainly a worthwhile endeavor. This special event should enable students to better understand philanthropy’s role within institutions.”
