FALL 2023 OLP SCHOOL MUSICAL

As we approach the final days of our Mamma Mia! journey, I find myself reflecting on the incredible dedication and hard work each of you has poured into this production. It’s been a lengthy and transformative journey for all of us, filled with new experiences and adjustments.

My directing mantra has guided our process: “My job is to direct you to a performance you will be proud of for years to come.” With a focus on achieving on-stage excellence, I’ve set high standards and with the support of Ms. Tarlov we worked tirelessly with each of you individually to enhance your skills and confidence. Building solid relationships is key, and we trust that they will continue to flourish.

I am exceptionally grateful for the positive impact Saint Augustine High School has brought to us, and I sincerely hope to maintain this relationship for many years to come.

Mamma Mia! is more than just an entertaining musical featuring the legendary songs of ABBA. It is a joyful celebration of love, forgiveness, and the pursuit of dreams. The story of a single mom, Donna, who raised her daughter alone in a society where the emphasis is often on living for work rather than working to live life. As Donna refuses to discuss the past, Sophie takes matters into her own hands, setting the stage for a captivating narrative.

In the picturesque setting of a small Greek Island, Sophie dreams of a perfect wedding and embarks on a quest to discover the identity of her father. Through this production, I hope to remind us all that sometimes, we must take chances and risk everything to achieve our dreams.

Thank you for being a part of this show and for sharing in the love of theater. Your support is truly appreciated.

Mrs. Lucia Lopes-Oliver

I’ve been immersed in the world of acting since 1993, and my journey has taken me across three different countries—Portugal, Brazil, and the USA. My foundation in the art comes from one of Europe’s most distinguished professional acting schools, EPTC, where I pursued my high school education.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working on some truly memorable plays:

• “Death and the Maiden” by Ariel Dorfman, a performance that earned me the esteemed Best Actress award from the Kennedy Center.

• “The Clean House” by Sarah Ruhl, which led to recognition on BroadwayWorld.com.

• “The Brother Grimms”, where I embraced the enchanting role of the Frog Princess in Hollywood.

My credits extend beyond the stage into the realms of TV and film, with notable appearances in commercials for brands like Lenovo computer, Redbull, and the Kcal Channel’s case of Judge Karen. Additionally, I had the pleasure of lending my voice to Disney’s “Under Water h20,” portraying the captivating mermaid, Emma.

In my current pursuits:

• Since 2016, I’ve been a proud member of Little Fish Theatre.

• I serve on the board team of the Ceta Festival for the next two years.

• I’ve taken on the role of a judge at the Thespian Festival.

• Holding a single subject credential in Theatre, I am one of the select 40 teachers in the state with this specialization. Notably, I am the second teacher to achieve high results in Edtpa assessments and lesson plans at CSEB.

• Excitingly, I’ve taken on the position of the new full-time drama director teacher at OLP.

As I dedicate these performances to my wonderful husband, Mr. Oliver, and our soon-to-arrive miracle son, I am reminded that “a mother’s prayer for her children is the most powerful prayer.”
