POSITION DESCRIPTION: Physical Therapist shall have sufficient training/experience to be able to adequately diagnose, treat diseases and injuries, and perform (to include, but not limited to) the following: Provide required service within the rules and regulations of the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. Provide professional guidance, counseling, and evaluation and assist in direct activities and training of any assigned student. Perform all duties in such a manner that they meet The Joint Commission (JC) standards. Perform all duties with minimal supervision or guidance, consulting with the Service Chief when patient issues cannot be resolved. Educate patients, families or health care professionals in the rationale and techniques for the prescribed physical therapy treatment program. Assist in conducting in-service educational programs for peers, subordinated, other health care providers and members of the military and civilian communities. Evaluate and document each patient’s response to treatment on an ongoing basis. Track treatment as appropriate and execute ongoing discharge planning. Revise treatment plans when patients fail to respond or show adverse reactions to treatment. Execute the full range of treatment procedures using manual therapy, therapeutic exercise gait, gait training, manual muscle testing, and the sparing application of modalities such as heat, ultrasound, and electric stimulation. Interact effectively with patients and health professionals to maintain a high quality standard of healthcare.

Perform as a clinical instructor, when requested, in full compliance with the guideline established by the Texas Chapter of the American Physical Therapy association for the mastery and assessment of clinical skills or according to other guidelines established by the physical therapy school of the affiliating student. Plan and administer physical therapy to general medical and surgical patients with single and multiple disabilities such as fractures, sprains, hemiplegic, nerve injuries, and surgical reconstruction. In the context of complex pain management issues. Directly participate in all patient treatment and directly oversee any treatment applied by subordinate personnel. Perform thorough patient examinations appropriate for the condition for which the patient has sought physical therapy care or the purpose of the provider’s referral. Examinations will encompass the full spectrum of physical therapist examination skills to adequately diagnose the cause of the patient’s complaint. Primarily neuromusculoskeletal care includes the exercise of professional judgment in the evaluation, treatment, and referrals of patients with musculoskeletal complaints. The physical therapist performing primary evaluation is a provider of primary care. Primary care practice requires knowledge of differential diagnosis history taking, the carrying out of complex examination procedures, the correlation of test results and measurements, and the prescribing of treatment. The parameters of practice includes issuing of profiles, placing personnel on quarters (e.g., bed rest), referring patients to other specialty clinics, ordering laboratory test and appropriate imaging, prescribing musculoskeletal medications, and determining the appropriate physical therapy treatment. When utilizing support staff a written plan of care must be furnished to the support staff describing all treatment task to the appropriate clinic personnel. Physical Therapist will work in conjunction with the pain Specialist Physicians and Physician’s Assistant (PA) as part of an interdisciplinary pain management team in the Pain Clinic. It is primarily outpatient based and involves the evaluation and treatment of complex pain management patients. Provision of direct plans of care as well as interest in helping to lead a functional restorative program is required. Make timely and appropriate referrals to other providers when medically indicated. Maintain proper medical records on all patient treatment in accordance with AR 40-66. Prepare any additional record or description of care if and when required, on behalf of the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF)
WORK REQUIREMENTS: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Hours will be set by the work site. Federal Holidays-applicants will not be required to provide service on recognized Federal Holidays (New Years Day, Martin Luther King, JR’s Birthday, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day).
PHYSICAL THERAPIST
EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS: Maintain a current, valid, unrestricted license to practice as a physical therapist from one of the 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands. Two years experience in physical therapy within the last 5 years. Documented experience and proficiency in manual therapy and outpatient musculoskeletal rehabilitation. APTA certification or specialized in orthopedic, manual therapy or geriatrics is preferred. Read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification by way of an American Heart Association or Red Cross approved training program. Sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity to relate constructively to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds. Meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements Must pass Background and NACI/credit checks. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) required training. Position requires access to Department of Defense computer systems, therefore provider shall be a U.S. Citizen or otherwise meet the requirements of AR 25-2. Experience using computers, especially Microsoft programs.
