NCI: As the Solaris Systems Administrator this position is vital to the success of the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) program for NCI. This position will be responsible for enterprise-wide deployment initiatives, with respect to researching and implementing new capabilities, as required by the customer. Communication skills will be required to identify and solve complex technical issues. The operational environment consists of both commercial off-the shelf (COTS) software and also custom written applications. The Solaris Systems Administrator is a part of a dynamic team working in a group environment. The Solaris Systems Administrator position will be located in Rome, New York. Highlights of Responsibilities:

       

Maintain Oracle/Sun/Solaris/Linux Enterprise Server Infrastructure for AFRL/Rome. Working knowledge of Solaris 10. Proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Knowledge of Windows Vista/2003/2008 a plus. Troubleshoot and resolve any break/fix requirements for all Unix servers. Maintain software inventories for each Unix server we are responsible for. Perform System Backups/Restores Monitor Daily system log. Utilize Symantec/Veritas NetBackup 6.x software.

Maintain server hardware delivering the following services:

                    

Manage Internal and External DNS Infrastructure. Monitor Intranet Web Service Monitor Extranet Web Service Monitor Site-Wide SMTP service for email delivery Utilize HP OpenView (HPOV) Network Management Manage Remedy Action-Request Trouble Ticket Call Tracking System. Monitor Tripwire Enterprise Server for server security and change management/control. Utilize Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Utility for disaster recovery and file restore for UNIX Operations. Develop Web applications to be used on the Internet/Intranet web server. Develop and test database server for database applications to be rolled out on production database servers. Utilize SSH/SFTP service to include public key authentication. Write shell scripts to automate administration tasks. Perform operating system upgrades as needed. Perform software upgrades as needed. (BIND, sendmail, Tripwire, HPOV, etc.) Perform system patching for Information Assurance AFMC TCNO remediation. Work with DBA/Web Staff to help maintain database and web infrastructure. Maintain user accounts including all customer-required paperwork. Work with the customer to help design and implement new UNIX-related technologies. Install new UNIX server hardware. Work with other disciplines on the Enterprise Team to include Windows Operations on various integration issues as the need arises. Utilize SMTP service, specifically sendmail 8.13 and up, to support a local site SMTP service.


Requirements:

   

Bachelor degree in Computing Science or 6 years experience in related field. CompTIA Security+ certification. Oracle Solaris 10 System Administrator certification Applicants selected for this position will require background screening and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Education and Experience:

   

Advanced degree in Computing Science. Prior military service or support of military customers. Computing environment certifications. ITIL certifications.
