NCI: As the Technical Specialist this position is vital to the success of the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) program for NCI. This position will be responsible for enterprise-wide deployment initiatives, with respect to researching and implementing new capabilities, as required by the customer. Communication skills will be required to identify and solve complex technical issues. The operational environment consists of both commercial off-the shelf (COTS) software and also custom written applications.The Technical Specialist is a part of a dynamic team working in a group environment. The Technical Specialist position will be located in Rome, New York. Highlights of Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and maintain operating systems on workstations and servers, including web servers, in support of business processing requirements. Perform advanced analytical activities related to the definition, development, implementation, maintenance, and support of laptops/desktops/servers and client-supported applications. Deploy workarounds for technical problems. Investigate creative solutions to customer requirements, and keeping current with available and future technology initiatives. Perform scripting and troubleshooting of software packages. Participate in and initiate concept development and trade-off studies. Devise appropriate test plans to use in evaluating, debugging, and checking of equipment and systems for accurate and dependable conformance to specifications. Prepare complete documentation of methods, procedures, and design. Develop and promote standard operating procedures. Assist with implementation of combined hardware/software systems. Maintain equipment and physical/virtual systems used for testing and development.
Requirements:
US Citizenship. Associated Degree in Computer Science or related field.3-5 years experience in Windows Operating systems, hardware platforms, and software packages. CompTIA A+ certification. Microsoft MCTS Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Configuration certification. Applicants selected for this position will require background screening and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field with 6-9 years experience in an associated (Microsoft Windows, Vista, Microsoft Windows 7, server 2003 and 2008) field. PowerShell or other scripting experiences a plus. Experience and knowledge of Unix/Linux, SQL Server and IIS.
