All Saints Catholic Parish Primary School All Saints School was established in 1989 to provide a quality Catholic Education to the students of Albany Creek, Eatons Hill and surrounding areas. It has grown into a medium size school of over 700 students. The committed and caring staff, work closely with parents to provide a well-rounded education for its students. All Saints School has embraced the Australian Curriculum as well as the latest research in how to improve student learning. All Saints School has a comprehensive Religious Education program. The faith life of all students is nurtured through opportunities to be involved in prayer and liturgy, as well as being involved in opportunities to support the different charity groups within our community. All classrooms are air conditioned to enhance the environment for student learning. There are two computer labs – one mac and one PC. All classrooms have access to laptops, desktops, iPads and iPods. Year 5 and 6 students are involved in a one to one iPad program. Year 6 students now visit Canberra each year. Our library has ten learning spaces to provide a range of different learning environments for our students. There are extensive grounds and covered spaces for outdoor learning. There are comprehensive music, instrumental music and sports programs available for all students. Students can join a variety of choirs, learn a string, woodwind, brass or percussion instrument, as well as have an opportunity to learn the recorder and ukulele in classroom music lessons. All Saints students are involved in both State and Catholic sport competitions.

Rotary Club Albany Creek Natasha Traves wins place at National Youth Science Forum Natasha Traves, a year 11 student at Genesis Christian College and a member of the Genesis Interact Club, has been selected to participate in the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) which will be hosted in Canberra early next year. Competition for a place amongst science-oriented students was fierce but Natasha, with her broad base knowledge across science and maths subjects gave her the edge over other applicants. The Rotary Club of Albany Creek are joint sponsors with Natasha’s parents to send her off on this exciting science-based adventure which many

say is a life-changing experience. The NYSF aims to nurture and encourage young Australians to be the next generation of leading scientists and engineers supporting a sustainable future for our nation. We wish Natasha all success in her future science-oriented career path.

Albany Creek Rotary Supports Life Education Life Education’s mascot, Harold, continues to leave a lasting impression on many children who have attended Life Education presentations when the Life Ed Van visited their school. When Rugby League Legend, Petero Civoniceva, was asked to be guest speaker at a Combined Services Clubs dinner to support Life Education, he jumped at the chance, remembering the impact that Harold and Life Education’s presentations had made on his own children. Pictured here is Petero and Councillor Julie Greer - a member of the Life Education Moreton Bay Region Committee - with a super-sized Harold. On invitation from both State and Independent Schools, Life Education presents interactive programmes, tailored to each year level, covering life skills (including self-image and anti-bullying awareness), drug and alcohol and relationship education. The classroom teacher attends each session and is provided with teaching materials for further lesson development and a workbook for each child. CHRISTMAS CAROLS Get ready to hear all your favourite Christmas Carols and feel the spirit of the holidays with the 12th annual North Lakes Christmas Carols (NLCC). Returning on Sunday, December 6 at North Lakes Town Common, the 2015 NLCC promises to be the biggest yet with stacks of entertainment for the whole family. Event organiser Kathryn Richards from Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT) is looking forward to staging the event at its brand new home in the North Lakes Town Common. “This year’s Carols will be held at the North Lakes Town Common, located off Little Burke Street which is a great location with plenty of free parking across the road at Westfield Shopping Centre and plenty of open space to watch the stage entertainment,” she said. Visitors are encouraged to bring along a blanket or chair and settle in for an evening under the stars. As always, this is a free event for the local community to enjoy, with the festivities running from 4pm to 8pm, boasting plenty of talent from the local community. “We are really excited to showcase our local superstars from nearby schools, dance and community groups, who will take to the stage in a carolling spectacular alongside Craig Martin and His Swing Band who will headline the night,” Kathryn explained. But carols aren’t the only reason to bring the family down to the North Lakes Town Common. “Families can explore Santa’s Village, have fun on the free jumping castles and trampolines, try the Inflatable Snow Globe Experience, wander through the twilight markets, and don’t forget about the Fireworks Finale at 8pm.” The North Lakes Christmas Carols is a free event and is only possible thanks to the support of local businesses that financially contribute to the event, including Event Partners Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism and Stockland.

THE ALL NEW HILUX – THE REAL DEAL It’s been ten years since Toyota launched the last Hilux and the much anticipated all new model will be available at your local Torque Toyota Dealership in early October. Australia’s favourite ute is set to take its ‘unbreakable’ tag to new heights with an even tougher next-generation model. The all new Hilux is still the workhorse but also features advanced comfort, safety that puts the new ute back in front of the pack it is easier to drive than ever. The new Hilux is tougher than it’s predisessor with an even stronger frame, four powerplants (including two new high-torque turbodiesel engines), increased towing capacity up to 3.5 tonnes* and payloads of up to 1240kg. Toyota’s Australian engineers took global responsibility for developing the rugged suspension package for the local HiLux with testing at the Anglesea proving ground and over sealed roads and off-road trails in Victoria, NSW and South Australia. The new Hilux has improved offroad performance, with better suppression of vibrations and

improved roll stiffness while providing superior ride and handling in harsh conditions. Under the bonnet two newly developed GD-series four-cylinder common-rail turbo-diesel engines are notable for their low-end punch and develop substantially more torque than the current model’s 3.0-litre unit. A 2.8-litre version offers up to 450Nm of torque, a gain of 25 per cent, while its 2.4-litre sibling generates up to 400Nm. In each case fuel use has been reduced by around 10 per cent#.

HiLux will arrive in Australia with greater customer choice – 31 variants (currently 23) with 4×2 and 4×4, three cabin styles (single, extra and double) and three equipment grades (WorkMate, SR and SR5). Larger exterior dimensions and clever packaging have liberated more interior space front and rear and enabled designers to offer a more natural seating position. HiLux also benefits from a larger fuel tank (80 litres), all-terrain tyres on many variants and available LED headlights and daytime running lamps.

Upgrades to HiLux’s 2.7-litre fourcylinder petrol engine have produced greater power, torque and fuel efficiency due to lower weight, enhanced combustion efficiency and reduced friction. The 4.0-litre petrol V6 engine continues.

Body rigidity has been improved with additional spot welds reinforcing HiLux’s toughness and contributing to better steering response. Greater use of high-tensile steel helps reduce weight while ensuring body strength.

Improved performance and economy are supported by new six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, including an ‘intelligent’ manual transmission that helps eliminate shift shock by matching engine revs to the transmission speed.

Toyota expects the entire nextgeneration HiLux range to attract the maximum five-star safety rating with stability and traction control, anti-skid brakes, reversing camera, seven airbags, hill-start assist and emergency stop signal all standard across the range. Comprehensive safety features include a reverse camera on all pick-ups and an accessory camera available for cab-chassis buyers as well as seven airbags, stability and traction control, anti-skid brakes and an emergency stop signal.
