In this issue of the Buzz we have a feature on “Christmas in The Creek”, so check out page 42 and 43. It’s a busy time of year but make sure you don’t miss out on “Christmas in the Creek” on Saturday December 3rd, “Keep the Christmas spirit alive” on Sunday December 18th, and “Christmas Service and Brunch” on Christmas day at the Good Shepherd Baptist Church. Aussie Escape Caravans are holding a free evening of fun and entertainment called “Escape to Brendale” on Friday November 25th , it will be a lot of fun for all the family so don’t miss it. We have lots of competitions and promotions in the Summer Buzz including the Kids Colouring Comp on Page 38, The Buzz Baby photo comp on page 46 and the Buzz Pets Photo comp see page 56. There is a brand new Pharmacy opening at the Coles Shopping centre, Chris and Vanessa Kelly are changing their pharmacy to the Priceline Pharmacy brand and launching a brand new store in time for Christmas. Priceline Pharmacy are opening their newest store in Albany Creek in early December. The new store replaces the old Amcal Chemist at Albany Creek Square Shopping Centre and the store is located opposite Coles. Chris and Vanessa Kelly have owned the Albany Creek Amcal Pharmacy for the past 16 years. We spoke to Chris about the new store: “We are very excited about the new store, nothing has changed as far as our staff are concerned but Priceline opens up a huge opportunity to bring our regular customers products and prices that are unique to Priceline Pharmacies.” he said. The new store will carry Priceline’s full range of cosmetics, hair, skincare and fragrances. Now you don’t have to travel to a major shopping centre to find the beauty brands you really want. “Our store has always been very community minded and we have lots of regular customers” said Chris “Now with the type of products the new Priceline store will carry, we will be able to welcome new customers who are looking for the biggest and best range of beauty products at the most competitive prices” he continued.

Competition in the retail market is getting stronger all the time and only the retailers who embrace change and offer the products and services that are in demand will survive.

All Saints School has embraced the Australian Curriculum as well as the latest research in how to improve student learning. All Saints School has a comprehensive Religious Education program. The faith life of all students is nurtured through opportunities to be involved in prayer and liturgy, as well as being involved in opportunities to support the different charity groups within our community. All classrooms are air conditioned to enhance the environment for student learning. There are two computer labs – one mac and one PC. All classrooms have access to laptops, desktops, iPads and iPods. Year 5 and 6 students are involved in a one to one iPad program. Year 6 students now visit Canberra each year. Our library has ten learning spaces to provide a range of different learning environments for our students. There are extensive grounds and covered spaces for outdoor learning. There are comprehensive music, instrumental music and sports programs available for all students. Students can join a variety of choirs, learn a string, woodwind, brass or percussion instrument, as well as have an opportunity to learn the recorder and ukulele in classroom music lessons. All Saints students are involved in both State and Catholic sport competitions.

The Albany Creek Brumbies Rugby Union Club has been an integral part of the northside sporting community for over 21 years. Conveniently located in the South Pine Sports complex it offers excellent facilities as well as top level fields for all ages to play on. The Brumbies is a club that supports ground level rugby with under 6 right through to our under 16’s coming through. With many teams being in finals and grand finals last season they are showing that their players skills are growing on and off the field. A family orientated club that is run by volunteers it focuses not only on giving kids excellent rugby skills and facilities but a true feeling of friendship and mateship also being at the core of the club. One of the integral parts of doing this is also shown with the annual under 15’s overseas tour which is funded through fundraising by families and the club and has seen teams visit France, New Zealand and this year Japan. Keeping that large family spirit alive comes right down to our full club training night on Friday night where the whole family can come along and purchase food and drink from our club run canteen and at the same time catching up with other families within the club.

National Youth Science Forum and Conoco Phillips Science Experience The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) is another of Rotary’s successful youth projects. In its 30 year history, graduates of the NYSF are well represented in science-related companies and institutions throughout Australia and overseas. Tyron Esposito, a Yr 11 student from Genesis College is

being supported by Albany Creek Rotary to attend the twelve day forum in Canberra in January, 2017. He will be one of 300+ like-minded students from all Australian states and territories attending one of two sessions. For Yr9 students with similar interests, Rotary support is available to attend the three day Conoco Phillips Science Experience programs run by local universities. Albany Creek State High School student Courtney Smith is the winner of the 2016 Peter Campbell Memorial Literary Award. The award was presented to Courtney at the Albany Creek State High School in front of a packed assembly on Friday October 28. Matt Campbell from Peter Campbell Realty handed the much converted award to Courtney for her short story titled ‘Pro Bono Publico’ This is the awards third year and entries came from many schools in the Pine Rivers region. In addition to the main award, a second highly commended award was given to Jessica Freiberg for her story “Let’s stick together”. Courtney’s short story will now be published by the Writers Anthology Group with support from Bent Banana books.
