Community Christmas Lunch
spreading festive cheer throughout the region For some people living in the Redcliffe, North Lakes and Deception Bay community, Christmas is just another day.
The Community Christmas Lunch is only possible each year thanks to the support and generosity shown by the local community.
To help spread Christmas cheer throughout the region, Our Village Foundation in partnership with the Redcliffe Uniting Church, volunteers and local businesses, will once again deliver the annual Redcliffe Community Christmas Lunch.
Each year, over 50 volunteers roll up their sleeves and give up their Christmas Day to give back to those that need it most. Some of the volunteers, particularly from the Redcliffe Uniting Church have been supporting the Community Christmas Lunch for a number of years.
The Community Christmas Lunch has been running for over 10 years and spreads Christmas cheer to more than 300 people who are lonely, disadvantaged or have fallen on hard times, with many service-based organisations providing referrals to ensure that the most at need have somewhere to go. The Community Christmas Lunch is free to attend and offers a traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings along with festive stage entertainment, children activities, face painting and free transport to and from the lunch if required. The big man in red himself, Santa Claus, also makes a special appearance and provides each child with a gift.

Kind-hearted local businesses, organisations and individuals also dig deep, and contribute financially to ensure that the event continues by sponsoring a table. This sponsorship makes it possible for 10 individuals to attend and enjoy Christmas amongst friends.

Christmas is the season for caring and giving back. This year, help spread Christmas Cheer in your own backyard and support an Our Village 101 Causes you are passionate about, in an effort to make their Christmas season a little brighter. We all have a Cause that is close to our heart, but sometimes knowing how to help is the hardest part. The Our Village 101 Causes fundraising program provides an easy and affordable platform to support the organisation of your choice, and get rewarded in return for your generosity and Christmas is the perfect time to take action! For as little as $27.50, individuals can register as a Community Champion for 12 months. What sets the Our Village support structure apart is that you get a say in where your money goes. As a Community Champion, an individual gets to choose who will benefit from their registration fee, with 90% going directly to the Cause of their choice. Nette Griggs, Chief Executive Officer of Our Village Foundation, explains that this small contribution goes a long way in supporting the community. “There are 101 Causes that need a helping hand in the Moreton Bay community and by becoming a Community Champion, an individual is ensuring that not only are they supporting a Cause they care about, but also helping to continue or develop projects and services that are making their local community a better place,” Mrs Griggs explains.
“If you don’t already have a specific Cause in mind that you want to support, I urge everyone to visit the Our Village website and check out our fantastic Causes and their profiles – I guarantee you will find an organisation that resonates with you,” said Mrs Griggs. “Our fantastic network of businesses want to thank the Community Champions for helping our community, by providing a wide range of Supporter Perks for them to use and enjoy all year round.” Throughout the year, Community Champions will have access to thousands of dollars’ worth of discounts and special offers in areas such as food and beverage, travel and tourism, entertainment, health and fitness, retail and fashion and professional services – there’s something for everybody! “You’ll find that a number of these Supporter Perks are valued at far more than $27.50, which is the cost of the annual Community Champion registration fee, and these discounts will certainly add up over the year,” explains Mrs Griggs. There are also other ways to support the Cause of your choice this Christmas.
