A message from ACCA’s President

This yearbook provides an insight into the class of 2016 as you embark on your careers and reveals the diversity of roles and ambitions that you and your peers have I am delighted to welcome you into our worldwide membership of 188,000 members. During 2016 we welcomed 290 new members from across Scotland into our global family! It was a pleasure to speak with so many of you at our Celebrating Membership event at Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel. Everyone connected with ACCA was struck by the tremendous sense of pride that the many family and friends there took in our new members’ achievements. This yearbook is a memento of what you have achieved. It provides an insight into the class of 2016 as you embark on your careers and reveals the diversity of roles and ambitions that you and your peers have.

ACCA never stands still. We recently announced a bold and exciting new alliance between ACCA and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) that will cement our position as the most-forward thinking and influential global accountancy body. We have launched a ground-breaking piece of research, Professional Accountants – The Future, which cuts straight to the heart of the future challenges and opportunities facing the accountancy profession. You have joined our membership at a very exciting time. We rely on our member voices to shape ACCA’s future and the more we hear from you, the more effective and representative we can be as a membership body. I wish you all the very best in your career as a professional accountant.

A message from the Head of ACCA Scotland

On behalf of my colleagues, I offer our congratulations on becoming a member of ACCA and joining a vibrant community of over 4000 finance professionals here in Scotland. As your local office, we add value to our membership by using our unique global network to demonstrate our position as the leading adviser on finance to the government, businesses and the profession in Scotland. We are proud of how our members develop and lead the finance agenda across Scotland, within large practices such as EY and BDO to private sector companies such as Arnold Clark and Morgan Stanley. Our members are equally well represented in the public sector, including the Scottish Government and many local authorities.

We are proud of how our members develop and lead the finance agenda across Scotland, from large practices to private sector companies, the public sector and many local authorities You have worked hard to achieve membership. Now, being an active member can help you advance your career. Our CPD events programme is one of our most popular resources and will help you further develop your technical skills. Our four regional networks – Aberdeen, Edinburgh & East of Scotland, Glasgow & West of Scotland and Tayside & North Fife – combine to host around 30 events each year which can help you foster new relationships and build your professional network. An annual highlight is our Aberdeen Members’ Dinner. This year the former manager of Scotland’s national football team, Craig Brown, entertained over 80 guests with tales from his time in charge.

In Glasgow we have provided members with unique access behind the scenes at Glasgow International Airport, while in November members will learn the secrets of television success when they go back stage at Scottish Television. We would love to see you at one of our events soon. Full details – including how to book – of all events are available on our website at members.accaglobal.com We look forward to getting to know you and supporting you as a member, either in person or via our social media channels: @ACCAScotland, Facebook and LinkedIn.
