verything Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel created has become iconic, from the CHANEL name itself to the maison’s N°5 perfume, the first fragrance by a couture house. Her “little black dress” became a staple of every woman’s wardrobe, and her tweed jacket and chain quilted leather 2.55 bag remain instantly recognizable to this day. Mademoiselle Chanel’s most cherished symbols—the objects she loved to have around her, including camelia flowers, stars and feathers—combine savoir-faire and beauty. Today like yesterday, the house of CHANEL remains true to Mademoiselle’s core values, and continues to beautifully incorporate her beloved icons into its fine jewelry collections.

CAMÉLIA The camélia was Coco Chanel’s favorite flower, and she frequently chose a white bloom to offset her little black dress. Seventy years later, Mademoiselle’s trademark flower is still an icon for CHANEL, interpreted in the maison’s ready-to-wear, haute couture, fine jewelry and watch collections. Like a signature, the camélia epitomizes the spirit of CHANEL worldwide. It is the perfect accessory: a masterpiece of stylish understatement and simple beauty, as timeless as CHANEL itself.

Camélia Ajoure ring

ÉTOILE & COMÈTE It was Mademoiselle Chanel’s fondness for symbols and lucky charms that led her to the shooting star, and since its appearance in Coco’s 1932 collection, the star has become a CHANEL icon. With five points— Coco’s lucky number—the star is the “symbol of the principle of life, of perpetual renewal.” Shooting stars appeared throughout her first fine jewelry collection, making spirals on bracelets and rings, setting brooches on fire and exploding into stars with irregular points. Mademoiselle Chanel designed necklaces without clasps, where comets with diamond tails shot across the neck, enhancing the nape and lighting up the throat. One of the most inspiring and innovative pieces from the collection was the spectacular Comète necklace, consisting of 600 diamonds set in platinum. A totally revolutionary creation, it was fully articulated and open at the front of the neck. When CHANEL Fine Jewelry was revived in 1993 with the opening of Place Vendôme, the first collection paid homage to the 1932 Collection. Today, fine jewelry continues to be adorned with stars and comets. The collections are built around interpretations of designs inspired by Mademoiselle Chanel: pieces inspired by jewels that she wore and original creations in the style of CHANEL.

Comète Spirale ring

PLUME Soft and voluptuously graphic, feathers are another iconic symbol of CHANEL. The eternally feminine theme has inspired sumptuous high jewelry pieces (1932 Collection), as well as smaller ones. In a miniature version, the feathers appear like soft down awaiting a gentle breeze to carry them away. The precious variations around the feather express all the creative style and freedom which has distinguished fine jewelry at CHANEL since its origins.

POETRY OF LIFE

The romantic history of VAN CLEEF & ARPELS.

P

ieces of fine jewelry usually have love stories behind them. And sometimes the haute jewelers who created them do, too. The year 1895 brought the blessed union of two jewelry clans that together would give birth to a dynasty. Alfred Van Cleef, son of a lapidary and diamond broker, married Estelle Arpels, daughter of a dealer in precious stones. Over the ensuing decade, other family members joined the blossoming business, and the first Van Cleef & Arpels boutique opened in the elegant environs of 22 Place Vendôme, Paris. The family continued to be blessed with good fortune. An international clientele helped spread its reputation throughout the civilized world. The second generation succeeded in the 1930s under the vision of Renee Puissant, daughter of Estelle and Alfred, who served as creative director from 1926 to 1942 and left a lasting and unique stylistic legacy on the maison’s collections. Also in 1942, Van Cleef & Arpels opened a flagship at 744 Fifth Avenue in New York, under the management of Claude Arpels, Estelle’s nephew. During these years, the brand developed many techniques and designs that continue to define its approach to the art of haute joallerie to this day. For example, the Mystery Set technique, patented in 1933, allows metal to disappear to better reveal the precious stones. Other iconic pieces imagined during this period included the ingenious vanity case known as the Minaudière, and the clever Zip Necklace. The Alhambra long necklace debuted in 1968, combining yellow gold with the pure lines of Alhambra motifs. This symbol of harmony was an immediate success and established itself as a distinctive lucky emblem of Van Cleef & Arpels. Over the years the Alhambra collection has constantly renewed itself, taking on exquisite variations of form, motif, size and material. Today as always, Van Cleef & Arpels is renowned for bringing a sense of lightness and movement to its creations. Flowers, arabesques and feminine figures seem to come to life in three dimensions. Nature continues as a cherished theme, offering inspiration through the metamorphoses of flora and fauna, and the luxuriance of gardens full of fluttering butterfly wings and the courtship dances of birds of paradise. The maison continues to enchant and delight with creatures of the imagination, such as fairies, mermaids, unicorns and phoenixes, evoking the symbolism of dreams and wonder. The inventiveness and elegance of Van Cleef & Arpels, along with use of the rarest materials, has won over an ever-expanding clientele of royal families, cinema sirens and cosmopolites of exquisite taste, who have found in the brand a delicate sensitivity to the poetry of life. Visit Van Cleef & Arpels at Americana Manhasset today to experience the maison’s iconic collections.

An up-close look at the London Jewelers East Hampton humidor and cigar collection.

I

f you think London Jewelers is just about jewelry, think again. In addition to jewelry, watches, housewares and spectacular gift items, we are also the Hamptons’ best-kept secret for cigar aficionados. The collection reads like a who’s who of cigar brands, from Davidoff and Padron to Arturo Fuente, even the rare and limited Opus X collection. Cigars hail from Honduras, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, reasonably priced from $4 to $35 per individual cigar. In addition to cigar singles and sets, we offer cutters, lighters and home humidors for sale. Our stock is housed in the East End’s only walk-in humidor, covering 100 square feet and kept at a constant 71% humidity, 71 degrees to mimic tobacco’s natural growing conditions. Inside, private keeps (where Hamptons notables like Billy Joel, Steven Spielberg, Alec Baldwin and Pat LaFontaine store their collections) are lined in Spanish cedar to preserve and add flavor to any cigar. Ed Dressler, general manager of London Jewelers’ Hamptons locations, explains that, if stored properly, most cigars can last for years, even

improving with age because the flavors of the blended tobaccos have time to meld together. On the contrary, if you store cigars improperly even for a few months, “you might as well throw them in the trash,” he says. Not only would they be harsh and unpleasant to smoke, but they might even become impossible to smoke. “Cigars are made of three components: the filler, which is a blend of tobaccos; the binder, which holds the filler in place; and the wrapper, which completes the package and imparts most of a cigar’s flavor,” Dressler explains. “Most of the wrappers on cigars sold in the U.S. are made from tobacco called Connecticut Shade, originating from Cuban seed and benefiting from the state’s coastal influence. It’s literally grown in the shade and further shielded by a cheesecloth covering, so it’s obviously a very delicate substance. When stored improperly it will crack and flake, rendering a cigar unsmokable.” Visit our East Hampton humidor today to experience our impressive selection in person.

SUBMARINER With their subtly redesigned Oyster cases, distinctive dials with large luminescent hour markers and graduated rotatable Cerachrom bezels, the newest Submariner and Submariner Date models are firmly in line with the iconic originals launched in 1953. The Submariner features an Oyster bracelet and an Oysterlock clasp, as well as ingenious Rolex Glidelock technology, allowing fine adjustments of the bracelet without using any tools and making it possible to wear the Submariner Date comfortably over a diving suit. An innovative Chromalight display on the dial pushes the boundaries of visibility in dark environments. Its distinctive blue glow lasts up to eight hours with a uniform luminosity—practically twice as long as that of standard luminescent materials. The Submariner's rotatable bezel is a key functionality of the watch. Its engraved 60-minute graduations allow a diver to accurately and safely monitor diving time and decompression stops. Manufactured by Rolex from a hard, corrosionresistant ceramic, the Cerachrom bezel insert is virtually scratchproof. A luminescent capsule on the zero marker ensures legibility, no matter how dark the environment. The bezel’s knurled edge is carefully designed to offer excellent grip underwater, even with gloves. The Submariner runs on its calibre 3135, a self-winding mechanical movement that has been certified as a Swiss chronometer. It is fitted with a Parachrom hairspring, offering increased resistance to shocks and temperature variations. Its architecture, in common with all Oyster watch movements, makes it singularly reliable.

DAY-DATE In 1956, the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date became the first wristwatch to display the date and day of the week spelled out in full in a window on the dial. The Day-Date 40 relies on the calibre 3255, a self-winding mechanical movement with 14 patents. This new calibre, introduced in 2015, is the consummate demonstration of Rolex technology offering fundamental gains in precision, power reserve and reliability. The Day-Date is available in rare and precious platinum: the noblest of metals for the finest of watches. Platinum is known for exceptional corrosion resistance, yet it is also highly malleable—making it especially difficult to machine and polish, demanding an extremely high degree of skill. The President bracelet, with its semi-circular three-piece links, was created specifically for the launch of the Day-Date and continues to be a mark of refinement. Worn by many world leaders, the Day-Date is available with a bespoke day display in a wide choice of languages.

EXPLORER Rolex just introduced the new Oyster Perpetual Explorer with an entirely luminescent display for enhanced legibility. The model’s characteristic 3, 6 and 9 numerals are now filled with a luminescent material emitting a longlasting blue glow, like the hour markers and hands. This exclusive Chromalight display offers exceptional legibility in any conditions. The hands are also broader and longer for enhanced visual comfort. The case is constructed of 904L steel, used mainly in the technology, aerospace and chemical industries, where maximum resistance to corrosion is essential. As a superalloy, 904L is extremely resistant and highly polishable, maintaining its beauty even in the harshest environments. This model is equipped with a self-winding mechanical calibre 3132 movement, and like all Rolex models, it is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015, to the most exacting standards of -2/+2 seconds per day—more than twice what is required of an official chronometer. The Explorer’s Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function. Its trademark Oysterlock folding clasp prevents accidental opening, while the Easylink comfort extension link allows the wearer to increase the bracelet length by approximately 5mm at any time. The Oyster Perpetual Explorer imparts a fresh take on the sober, clean lines that long ago established it as an icon.

As a longtime authorized dealer of Rolex timepieces, we have the honor and privilege of being home to a space dedicated exclusively to the brand. The 740-sq.-ft. space at London Jewelers, Americana Manhasset showcases a vast array of iconic designs along with the watchmaker’s latest innovations.

CARTIER’S Calibre de Cartier Diver, now in blue, will be this year’s standout wristwatch.

S

ince 1904, when Cartier developed the first modern-day wristwatch, the Santos, men around the world have increasingly counted on the legendary French jewelry house to create new devices that showcase the latest innovations in the art of telling time with both style and ingenuity. So there is little doubt that in 2016, men will want to add the Calibre de Cartier Diver watch featuring a new blue ceramic bezel and blue rubber strap to their collections. Cartier launched the Calibre de Cartier collection in 2010. With its powerful lines, rugged case and strikingly original architecture, this watch instantly became a new symbol of masculinity. Its dial boldly reinterprets the Maison’s famed design codes, such as Roman numerals and a flanged bezel, that clearly identify the watch as a Cartier model. Four years later, Cartier wrote a new chapter in the line’s history by introducing the Calibre de Cartier Diver. Equipped with the Manufacture Cartier movement, the 1904-PSMC, the timepiece is perfect for everyday wear, but can also stand up to extreme conditions, meeting the strict technical requirements of ISO 6425. This designation, which controls the “Diver’s Watch” label, lays down eight criteria of reliability and imposes a series of extremely rigorous tests—all of which the Calibre de Cartier Diver passed with flying colors. The Calibre de Cartier Diver in blue will be available at London Jewelers in May 2016.

MAGNETIC ATTRACTION BREGUET’S Classique Chronométrie

N

ot long ago, the phenomenon of magnetism was an enemy of even the world’s greatest watchmakers. Certain materials necessary to making a timepiece are naturally magnetic or may become magnetized by prolonged exposure to a magnetic field, notably affecting a watch’s balance spring and markedly changing the rate of the movement— even stopping it altogether. The revolutionary magnetic pivot featured in Breguet’s Classique Chronométrie 7727 harnesses the power of magnetism to ensure the stability and performance of the balance. Abraham-Louis Breguet sought to improve accuracy and reliability through numerous inventions, ranging from the perpétuelle self-winding watch to the tourbillon, and this same spirit of invention motivates the engineers and master watchmakers of Manufacture Breguet today. The Classique Chronométrie 7727, packed with new discoveries and

technological inventions, is a prime example of achievement. It also honors more than two centuries of stylistic tradition with the fluted caseband, welded lugs, engine-turned dial, open-tipped Breguet hands, secret signature and unique number: the identifying features that express the essence of a Breguet timepiece. With a patent protecting the magnetic pivot, Breguet has set a new milestone in watchmaking history by using magnetism to improve the precision and the reliability of its timepieces. It is likely that the impact of this important invention will not be fully assessed for years. With the magnetic pivot, Breguet has not only mastered the negative effects of magnetism in a mechanical watch, but also harnessed them to significantly improve the pivoting, rotation and stability of the balance-staff. By incorporating a powerful micro-magnet in each of the two endstones supporting the balance pivots, Breguet has designed a dynamically stable system that recenters or self-adjusts after a disturbance. The Classique Chronométrie thus achieves an exceptional average daily rate of between -1 and +3 seconds per day. Among horological enthusiasts, the name Breguet stands for beauty as well as innovation. Since its beginnings in 1775, the firm has made every effort to extend the scientific boundaries of time measurement and to make mechanical movements ever more precise. Such early inventions as the tourbillon have not only made their mark on horology, but have also had a lasting influence on watchmaking methods. This pioneering spirit has kept its momentum through the generations, and the company today remains constant in its pursuit of excellence. At Breguet, history is still being written. Experience Breguet’s fine timepieces at London Jewelers, Americana Manhasset.

ALL ROADS LEAD TO

ROME 2,700 years of

Roman culture provide

F

rom ancient times to present day, Italian masters have been renowned for achievements in architecture, the fine arts and sciences. Italian genius has left us with Imperial Roman sculptures, Renaissance masterpieces, Galilean astronomy, feats of civil engineering—and some of the most meticulously crafted jewelry in the world. Since 1884, Bulgari has exemplified Italian excellence, honoring its rich history within modern designs. Renowned for their stylistic audacity and bold use of color, Bulgari pieces are immediately recognizable. A reverence for linearity and architecture contrasts with a supple sensuality, making each piece a creation of exquisite beauty. The chief symbol in Rome’s 27 centuries of history is the serpent, which Bulgari has incorporated into its collections since the 1940s, when it unveiled the first Serpenti watch. The snake’s body encircles the wrist, while the face of the watch is encased within the head. In designs from realistic to abstract, Serpenti timepieces wind all of Bulgari’s hallmarks together: a penchant for color, the juxtaposition of materials, wearability and the use of innovative artisanal techniques. The legacy of Rome is also invoked in Lucea, a timepiece collection whose design echoes that of the Roman sundial. As a master of colored gemstones, Bulgari has carved every Lucea crown to wink with a noble pink cabochon-cut stone, topped by a perfect diamond, making Lucea truly lucent with feminine elegance. For the gentleman inclined to masculine elegance, Bulgari has created the thinnest tourbillon movement in the world, measuring just 1.95 millimeters. Bulgari’s engineers reduced the tourbillon cage to fit the space of this ultra-thin movement, developing special ball bearings to accommodate the calibre. With a manual winding movement and the most intricate of decoration, Bulgari’s Finissimo Tourbillon is cased in platinum or pink gold measuring just 5 millimeters thick, resulting in one of the finest tourbillon watches in the world. Genius and creativity, hand in hand, result in creations that endure.

HAMPTONS

hile nothing in real estate is ever set in stone (or brick, or stucco, or marble), Hamptons property is almost always a sound investment. Home sales in the Hamptons are closely tied to the health of Wall Street, since the financial sector accounts for some 22 percent of city wages. With this year’s average salaries just north of $400,000, many of these dollars will eventually find their way into the Hamptons real estate market. Those who want to start investing in Hamptons property on a small scale will need about $1 million, according to Erica Grossman of Douglas Elliman, the queen of Hamptons real estate. Based in Southampton, she was named the number-one agent in the Hamptons for 2015 and 2013 (and in 2014 she came in second). “I believe in hard work and being honest,” she says of her impressive track record. “Your customers need you to always be there, whether it’s late at night or first thing in the morning.” Because of the mild winter, she reports that business got off to an early start this spring. Waterfront property is always a market hot spot, but the rapid development north of the highway also has immense appeal. New developments are especially attractive to those who don’t want the hassle of renovations. For those who do find renovations creatively rewarding, the current trend is to invest in elaborate backyards. Pavilions, fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, poolside shower facilities and tennis courts are just some of the projects that design and build firms are being hired for. Of course, there are also plenty of fabulous move-in-ready options that await. If you yearn for the romance of the Gatsby era, Grossman suggests Squabble Lane in the Murray compound of Southampton, the historic

epicenter of 1920s society. Designed by renowned architect Francis Fleetwood, the 6,700-sq.-ft. traditional Hamptons shingle-style features panoramic ocean, pond and dune views. “It is quite simply the epitome of luxurious seclusion,” says the listing, “and offers both peaceful sunrises on the ocean and sensational sunset views over the pond.” Situated on 4.5 acres, the property features a heated pool, tennis court, seaside terraces, gourmet kitchen, multiple fireplaces, elevator, staff quarters and a finished basement for $33.5 million. If modern in Bridgehampton is more your style, visit 40 Dune Road, situated between the ocean and Mecox Bay. According to Grossman, “The location is sublime, with sights and sounds of the sea from every vantage point in the house. The panoramic views are maximized in this modern stunner with expansive upstairs living spaces, soaring ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and an 1,800-sq.-ft. roof deck with entertainment space.” The property, which includes a private beach walkway and dock permit, is listed at $22.95 million. And in Sagaponack, Grossman presents 324 Parsonage Lane, priced at $10.99 million. “The 2.5-acre property is truly spectacular. The exterior includes a generous brick patio with enough room to accommodate any number of guests around the Gunite pool. Also included is a Har-Tru tennis court with ideal north-south orientation, located across the spacious lawns tucked away behind wind-blocked private hedges.” “Each part of the Hamptons is a little different,” Grossman reminds buyers, “but it’s all paradise.”

Property sales heat up for summer.

An introduction to HUEB, a fabulous family-run line new to London Jewelers.

H

FOR WOMEN, BY WOMEN

ailing from Brazil, Hueb is a fine jewelry brand positioned to shift the luxury jewelry experience through design, attitude and price. Established more than 40 years ago by Fádua Hueb, the brand still operates as a family business. Today, the third generation, Fádua’s grandson Thiago and his wife Priscila, act as brand principal and creative director, respectively. The company is proud to tout itself as “very much a women’s jewelry brand: designed and made by, worn by and bought by women.” Inspired by the unique heritage of Brazil—“the warmth of our culture, the colors of nature, and the enchanting surprises found both in the jungle and in the cities”—Hueb’s designs are crafted by hand using 18-karat gold, high-grade diamonds and natural gemstones, many of them from Brazilian mines. The line is designed and prototyped in Brazil, and final pieces are made in a small network of workshops throughout Brazil and Asia. Some of Hueb’s most-loved jewelry styles feature classical icons such as hearts and bows… with a twist. “And we have our own icons that express fantasy and magic; for example, the new Labyrinth collection that just launched at London Jewelers,” says Thiago. Constants throughout the brand’s varied collections include a playful use of color and designs that appeal to women of all ages. “Being at London Jewelers is a dream come true,” says Thiago. “It’s a privilege to be showcased next to the world’s best jewelry and watch brands, and at the same time be able to show how we are different.” Thiago has visited our Americana Manhasset location several times and enjoys interacting with customers. “What gives a lot of satisfaction is when a woman selfpurchaser reflects on the design and appreciates the great value we offer,” he shares. While Hueb is poised for continual growth, the company remains committed to maintaining a limited distribution. “We have no intention of becoming a mainstream brand,” insists Thiago. “We want to share our story, but keep the strong feeling of being discovered.” Disover the enchanting collections by Hueb at London Jewelers, Americana Manhasset.

Behind the scenes at the Parisian workshop of MESSIKA, the atelier of dreams.

MAGIC IN

THEMAKING

D

Ilan Messika, Valérie Messika and André Messika

ressed in overalls embroidered with the name of the maison, a number of Messika artisans lean over the workbenches in the new fine jewelry atelier. This is where unique pieces are created by a draftsman, a specialist in CAD (computer-aided design), a model maker, three jewelers, a setter and a polisher. Each finished jewelry piece is a work of art, the fruit of a chain of talent in the age-old craft. Accomplished business woman Valérie Messika’s dream has come to life under the roof of a Parisian building in the very heart of the capital. She sees the atelier as a creative environment where ideas take shape, a special space where inspiration forms. Here is a bench for stretching gold, there a forge and countless tools: all the equipment required to fabricate the masterpieces of jewelry that she has imagined. Valérie has added her personal touch to this space, right down to the smallest detail. On the wall, several photos and gouache reproductions mark the 10th anniversary of the maison and remind us that the atelier has a heritage, which diamond dealer André Messika has passed down to his daughter Valérie: love of stones, knowledge and respect for the jeweler’s craft. The patina gray benches pick up the colors of the busts on which the jewels sparkle; the bouquets of fresh roses are reminiscent of spring’s rebirth. Truly feminine, this daring modern den reflects the image of the brand, known for its contemporary vision of jewelry. The world of cloth and the haute couture have long fascinated Valérie Messika. Through the innovative Silk technique, she has come close to recreating the suppleness of fabric in her jewels, taming gold so that it hugs the curves of the body like a precious garment worn next to the skin. In this discrete temple to the tailor-made, the jewels catch the light for the first time thanks to skilled hands working behind the scenes. It is a fascinating secret world where technique gradually fades into the background, allowing the beauty to shine through. Experience the exquisite masterworks of art by Messika at London Jewelers, Americana Manhasset.

W H AT ’S YO U R A DV E N T U R E S T Y L E ? BALI The phrase “fun in the sun” seems almost custom-made for the gorgeous Indonesian island of Bali, known for its spectacular beaches of both black and white sands, many surrounded by extraordinary coral reefs. It’s one of the world’s most popular destinations for surfing, as well as snorkeling and scuba diving (especially Menjangan Island, the Marine National Park), where you can get an up-close view of sea urchins, starfish and more exotic species. Other visitors (many following in the footsteps of Eat, Pray, Love author Elizabeth Gilbert) embark to Bali on a more spiritual quest, stopping into one of the island’s numerous temples, such as the Tirta Empul Temple, known for its supposed holy waters, or Pura Taman Ayun.

ICELAND Few countries can match the natural beauty of Iceland, a mythical land dotted with spectacular mountains, glaciers, volcanoes and fjords. One can easily explore many of its outdoor wonders in three national parks—Vatnajokull, Snaefellsjokull and Thingvellir—the latter of which has been a favorite of many native artists. Or consider visiting one of the country’s famed geothermal spas. (The Blue Lagoon is perhaps the most famous.) Those wishing to take a walk on the less wild side can spend their days in the capital city of Reykjavik, which is home to the country’s foremost museums, thousands of restaurants, bars and clubs, and four-star lodgings including The Grand Hotel and the Alda.

Lions and leopards and elephants, oh my! Without question, South Africa remains one of the greatest places in the world to view animals in their natural habitat as you indulge in the lifetime dream of being on safari. (It’s best to hire a guide—and don’t forget your camera and your sunblock!) But this vast, beautiful country has so much more to offer visitors, from the opportunity to view its stunning ancient rock art inside the Bushman Cave Museum in the Drakensberg mountains or at Cape Town’s Iziko South African Museum, to the chance to sample the fruits of its over 300 vineyards, many in the Stellenbosch, also the home of the unbelievably luxurious Delaire Graff Estate. Jewelry shown, from top: SUTRA JEWELS 18k rose gold, diamond and pink opal fan earrings, $12,075. MESSIKA 18k white gold and diamond small Liz bangle, $27,600. GARDE ON YOUR

GARDE ROBE offers the ideal storage service

for fashion devotees, travelers and city dwellers alike.

C

lothing storage is never to be taken lightly, especially if it’s the finest in couture, a theatrical costume, or an item of sentimental value. Such special attire warrants equally special care, as the elite 300 people who have signed up as members of Garde Robe since 2001 can attest. This specialty company offers services no other company does, from archival preservation of one-of-a-kind clothing in a specially designed, temperature-controlled, air-purified storage loft, to a complete inventory of a client’s entire wardrobe, which includes photographing every piece and storing all those pictures in a “Cyber Closet” that is accessible 24/7 on your iPad. (The closet can even be divided into such categories as “Aspen” or “Hamptons” for those clients who travel frequently and need to keep their wardrobes ready to pack.) While this groundbreaking company was

originally founded by a noted author, publicist and flamenco dancer, it is now in the hands of Doug Greenberg, who joined Garde Robe 11 years ago. It operates offices in New York City, California, Florida and Sydney, Australia. “Our clients are mostly entertainers, socialites and even royalty: people who only want to wear a piece once or twice but choose to keep it, or have clothing they want to maintain because they know it’s an asset,” Greenberg explains. “We also archive the clothes of many of the major fashion houses, including Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera, so if a Hollywood star wants to wear a piece of vintage clothing on the red carpet, we can locate it. And no one ever has to go get their own clothing at the storage facility; we offer same-day delivery and next-day pick-up for any client.” Greenberg is also quick to point out the many other services Garde Robe has to offer.

60

“First, we know there are many designers who use fabrics, skins, feathers and other materials that are very hard to clean and preserve, so we work with the best restorers, conservationists and cleaners to ensure every piece of clothing remains wearable,” he promises. “Second, many people use our Luggage Valet service: shipping a satellite wardrobe to a second home or hotel. It’s ideal for frequent travelers or those who own a pied-à-terre. Third, we were instrumental in creating a special insurance policy for wearable/collectible clothing, which we did after we found that many homeowner policies exclude damages from floods, moths, mold or even dry cleaning.” When it comes to protecting, storing and preserving the finest clothing in the world, Garde Robe truly has you covered. Q&A with MARLI founder Maral Artinian.

AESTHETIC

W

ith an urban-chic design sensibility influenced by fashion and pop culture, Marli offers distinctive fine jewelry for the next generation. London Jewelers recently caught up with founder Maral Artinian to learn the story behind the brand.

feminine. What’s special about these designs is the interplay between the jewelry and the skin. Depending on skin complexion, each Marli piece tells a different story based on the woman who’s wearing it. Therefore, we really encourage women to take their time feeling and trying on the pieces before they make a purchase.

How did you come to start Marli? I was born into a family of jewelers. I have worked with my father and my brothers in this business since I was 18 years old. My journey with Marli started in 2012. I wanted to design jewelry for women who are fashion savvy, simple yet sophisticated, and like to wear their jewelry every day and have it be part of their lives. I would describe the line as minimalist design with exquisite craftsmanship. As the founder, I basically wear different hats based on the things I need to handle: creative designer, brand curator, salesperson. At our New York headquarters we are a team of five, and we have a sales director out of LA.

Which pieces from your latest collection are you most excited about?

What materials do you work with primarily?

How did your relationship with London Jewelers come about?

Marli designs are made out of 18-karat gold and diamonds. We design in New York and we make the jewelry in Bangkok, Thailand.

The use of negative space appears to be a big theme throughout your designs. Yes it is. A lot of Marli pieces are geometric, but at the same time very

We are very excited about our chokers, especially the Ransom choker, which made a big buzz when it was worn by Jennifer Hudson during the 2015 Grammys. Her entire look was so simple, yet powerful and sophisticated— these are the characteristics of the brand. London Jewelers carries most of Marli’s signature items, catering to that special woman who is looking for unique yet simple designs to suit her lifestyle and her taste.

Our sales director made the introduction, and I am very pleased to be able to work with a family-owned business like London Jewelers. I myself come from a family business, so it is very easy for me to relate. I have visited the store a couple of times, and I’m looking forward to going back to meet customers and share the Marli experience.

take time to BREATHE A

s you enter a Breathe Salt Room, a feeling of instant relaxation begins to set in. A calming pink glow emanates from imported Himalayan salt bricks, while salt crystals that cover the ground instantly bring to mind a soothing stroll in the sand. A gentle hum is the only indication that the halogenator is in action, blasting microparticles of pure medical-grade salt into the air. Settle into a comfortable lounge chair without the need to change from your street clothes, or completely disrobe for an individual session in the heated Salt Bed. Salt is a natural anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal mineral, and when heated, it gives off negative ions that counteract the positive ions that bombard us all day from our personal devices and electronics. Founded by Gary and Ellen Patrick in 2014, Breathe Salt Rooms were inspired by the ancient Eastern European tradition of dry salt therapy, a natural method to improve breathing, alleviate skin problems like eczema and psoriasis, treat the effects of allergies, reduce snoring problems, and help maintain overall good health. As vice president of advertising for international footwear brand Skechers, Gary travels frequently for business. Plagued by chronic infections even after undergoing several sinus surgeries, he found himself in London with a terrible sinus infection. Dreading an upcoming flight, he spoke to a colleague who referred him to a salt room. After only two sessions, his infection cleared up—no antibiotics necessary—and he was able to fly comfortably from London to LA. For Gary’s wife Ellen, an accomplished yoga instructor with an interest in breathing techniques (and a lifelong allergy sufferer), dry salt therapy held a similar allure. Back home in New York, the couple was shocked to find that there was nowhere they could receive this effective holistic treatment… and the rest is history. Locations are currently operated at One Park Avenue within Oasis Day Spa; at 825 Seventh Avenue; and in Dobbs Ferry and Katonah in Westchester, with expansion planned for the near future. To increase the benefits of your time spent in the salt room, try one of Breathe’s Salty Yoga Classes. Dry salt therapy, in conjunction with deep breathing techniques, can reduce the amount of energy breathing requires, decrease the demand for oxygen and strengthen the diaphragm, improving your yoga practice and allowing for a deeper sense of calm. Or attend a Salt & Sound Bath session, a powerful mind and body experience that combines the healing effects of dry salt therapy with the soothing song of crystal singing bowls. os Angeles-based interior designer Kelly Wearstler is the quintessential woman who can do it all. Her eponymous global luxury lifestyle brand (which includes furniture, lighting, rugs, fabrics and trims, wall coverings, luxe bedding, fine china, decorative home accessories, jewelry and objets d’art) is renowned worldwide for its distinctive designs and sophisticated style. It’s little wonder that Wearstler’s designs have attracted top celebrities from the film and music industries, including Gwen Stefani and Cameron Diaz. Moreover, her sumptuous interiors can be found in some of the world’s finest luxury hotels and grand residences from New York City to Beverly Hills to the Caribbean. A writer as well as a designer, Wearstler has published four wellreceived coffee table books (Rhapsody, Hue, Domicilium Decoratus and Modern Glamour: The Art of Unexpected Style), and she has also contributed advice columns to some of the world’s most-read magazines. In the past few years, she has served as a judge on Bravo’s popular interior design competition series, Top Design, and received awards and accolades from such varied periodicals as Architectural Digest and Vogue. On top of all her professional accomplishments, Wearstler also fits in quality time with her husband, Brad Kozen, and their two sons, Oliver and Elliott. She recently spoke with London Jewelers about her early attraction to design, her current inspirations and her favorite way to relax.

DESIGN

INTUITION

What led you into a career in interior design? I have always been drawn to design. My mother was a designer and she took me to antiques shows and auctions as a girl, educating my eye from a young age. Art class flew by the quickest in school and I was never without my sketch book. Interior design combines so many of my passions: architecture, art history, sculpture, pattern, texture, light and movement. It’s truly my dream job.

KELLY WEARSTLER brings luxe looks to great residences throughout the world.

If you had to describe the “Kelly Wearstler style,” what words or phrases would you use? Love color, take risks, stay curious.

Where do you find inspiration for your creations? Design is largely intuitive for me and I find inspiration everywhere. It is no secret that I love color. Living without color is like living without love. Mother Nature, architecture, fashion and art are all incredible influences. Travel is hugely inspiring to me; it broadens the mind like nothing else. Taking risks inspires me. My process is one of curiosity and experimentation.

What are you most proud of—in your career and your life? I’m so privileged to be able to do my dream job and work with an incredible number of inspiring collaborators and clients. But family is my priority in life and my boys bring me such joy. They are so full of life, energy, curiosity, love. I treasure all of my time with them.

What is your favorite way to unwind? Spending time with my family at our beachside home in Malibu. That’s my idea of instant relaxation. Experience worldly gifts from Kelly Wearstler’s collections at the Gift Gallery, London Jewelers Americana Manhasset.

RESCUE PAW FOUNDATION helps find FOREVER HOMES for pets in need.

HAPPY TAILS

very year in the U.S., between 9 and 11 million animals die in shelters. Rescue shelters are always at capacity, and there are many more animals being abandoned each day than there are homes that welcome pets in. Please read on for stories of successful family-pet matches, and consider becoming an adoptive pet parent today! "Rescue Paw Foundation has been instrumental in saving the lives of hundreds of dogs and puppies,” explain our friends at Bideawee, the leading pet welfare organization in our area for more than 112 years. “Many of Bideawee’s pups originated from Rescue Paw Foundation. They care deeply for every animal pulled from the rural communities from which they come. Some come from deplorable conditions and are often starving, neglected or injured. RPF ensures they have food, medicine and veterinary care, and acts as a liaison for transport to Bideawee, at which time they receive additional veterinary care and are spayed and neutered, behaviorally evaluated and placed in loving homes. Without Rescue Paw Foundation, many of Bideawee’s ‘happy tails’ may have never happened." Reese (top right) is one of many dogs that found his way from the back woods of Alabama to a wonderful forever home in New York. Before being transported, he tested positive for heartworm, was successfully treated and received a clean bill of health, all due to the good work of Rescue Paw Foundation. His new family, who always had two dogs, was looking for a playmate for their dog, Tara. Reese won them over with his stunning good looks and lively personality, and we are happy to report that he is thriving in his forever home! Brothers Kristoff (not pictured) and Olaf (top left) were also transported from Alabama during a frozen, blizzard-filled day in February 2015. These unfortunate dogs did not know or understand the comfort of a home or family, and were fearful of so many things. To help them become confident and self-assured, they were placed in separate foster homes. After several months apart, Olaf and Kristoff were reunited during one of New York State Retriever Rescue's adoption events, and it was clear to see that these two remembered each other! At the event, Kristoff was introduced to a family who was looking to adopt an older dog and a puppy, but when they saw the incredible bond between Olaf and Kristoff, they just had to have both! Together again and forever. And right at home among the London Jewelers Family is our newest addition, Brooklyn (pictured above left, next to her sister Bailey). Her previous owner had to relocate and delivered her to Bideawee, trusting that she would receive a wonderful new forever home. Another happy ending! Rescue Paw Foundation hosts adoption events twice a year with local shelters to help find forever homes for pets in need! Be sure to join us at our upcoming events planned at Americana Manhasset, Wheatley Plaza and the Hamptons (for details, visit facebook.com/OurCauseForPaws).
