Real estate has been a booming industry in India. Due to the current market situation the value of real estate has been constant for the longest period in recent times. If you are interested in buildings, designing – Architecture is your go-to field. Along with creativity you need to be good with math and physics. You can get into this stream from Commerce, Arts or Science. After 12th you are required to appear for entrance exams like NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) for private and State level colleges and JEE Mains and JEE Advance for colleges like IIT and NIT. Cracking JEE Advance is much more difficult than cracking NATA.

Bachelor’s in architecture is a five years course which includes a 6 months internship. Here, you get an opportunity to work under the best architects in India. You get an opportunity to apply the knowledge you have acquired in college. Also, you get an idea of how the industry functions. Your eagerness to learn determines the projects you get to work on. This is a golden opportunity to learn.

After completion of the bachelor’s degree it is always favourable to do your Masters. There are different field in which you can do your master’s. Masters is usually 18 months to 2 years course. Before deciding you should look at two factors, 1. Your interest lies in which field, 2. Demand for architects from that field. For Master’s you need to appear for entrance exams like GATE, CEED, TANCET and other private

exams conducted by colleges. You need to work hard to crack these exams as the level of difficulty of these exams higher than the bachelor’s exam.

You can also do your masters from Distance education. You must analyse the different opportunities you have. For instance, on completion of your bachelor’s if you get place in a good firm where you will get a good exposure, you should take up Distance Education. Since, you do not have the time to attend college. But in case if you do not have an opportunity to commit for, you do not need to feel bad for yourself. You can enhance your skills during a full-time master’s programme.
