A night of emotion and gratitude

“A HUGE success.” That is how Steve Loe described this year’s Blacktown

City Local Business Awards following the spectacular awards ceremony held on September 22.

“It was a magnifi cent, highly emotional night for all concerned,” the Awards founder and Precedent Productions Managing Director said.

“Not only was the event a huge success, but the entire program was our best ever.”

Mr Loe said the presentation ceremony, held at St Marys Band Club, was emotional and heartwarming as winners took to the stage to receive their trophies.

“Some speeches were hilarious while others were tear-fi lled,” he said.

“Th e one thing they all had in common was the genuine gratitude all recipients felt towards their staff , family, friends, customers and supporters.”

At JumpStart 4 Kids Long Day Care Centre we were ecstatic JumpStart 4 Kids Long Day Care Centre we w to receive the Blacktown City Council 2020 Sustainability Award category at the Blacktown Local Business Awards

This awards signifies collaboration between educators, children and families who continue to support sustainability daily throughout our service. Our vegetable garden offers children daily hands on experiences, as they water and discover an array of fruits, vegetable, herbs and at times some very friendly insects to investigate. Our compost bin allows children to reduce waste which is then used as fertilisers for our garden. Our very active worm farms are a highlight for the children as they feed, touch and care for some very wriggly friends. Families and children visit our vegetable garden to explore and to harvest vegetables and fruits for home and centre based cooking experiences. We are always excited to see photos of fantastic dishes served at home with our fresh garden ingredients.

Switching off lights, solar panels, water saving initiatives and using donated recyclable materials from families and exploring play through loose parts all contributes to children’s awareness of sustainability.

Children learn through play, investigation, active questioning, and exploration. Being sustainably conscious supports not only our centre environment but our broader community as we support all children and families to become active and responsible citizens.

Westpoint shines in winners

SIX Westpoint retailers were announced as overall winners at this year’s Blacktown Local Business Awards held on August 22, showcasing the achievements and resilience of our local businesses.

Of the staggering 8,000 plus nominations this year from the local area, there were 337 fi nalists chosen across multiple categories, of which 76 were Westpoint retailers.

Th e Local Business Awards has been running for over 30 years to celebrate businesses, their teams and owners. It is regarded as one of the major business events for the local area, giving the public the opportunity to nominate their preferred businesses and show.
