Let’s start with a legend… 85-year-old Domenico DeMarco – or Dom as his friends call him – has been perfecting his renowned pizza since 1965. He still imports ingredients from Italy and cooks his pizzas every day, with a little help from some of his kids. Di Fara continues to be the No. 1 pizzeria in NYC for many. They have two other locations, Williamsburg and the Lower Eastside in Manhattan. Go check whether this Italian pizzaiolo still has that magic touch!

Before Cuts & Slices, owner Randy Mclaren managed an expensive online sneaker concierge service which was worshiped by many NY rappers including Rihanna. He then came up with the concept of a pizzeria with high-quality, hand-tossed pies and a selection of the most imaginative, crazy toppings. Now Randy has a whole new following. He serves shrimp scampi pizza, chicken with waffles or French toast, oxtail slices, curry shrimp slices, jerk chicken, jerk shrimp, and much more.

Gravesend in South Brooklyn is home to delicious and authentic Sicilian pizza and ice-cream spot L&B Spumoni Gardens. This charming place with its red picnic tables is always packed with local families and teenagers. It was founded by a southern Italian immigrant Ludovico Barbati in 1939. The pizzas are square, the ice cream is spumoni, a gelato with small bits of nuts and sometimes fruit mixed in. The dining room was redecorated during the pandemic, while service switched to the outdoor patio and deliveries.

This is how things used to go at this 15-year-old BYOB restaurant: show up before 5 pm, put your name on the list, go and have a drink, get a call when your table is ready. You then make your choice from the tiny menu of calzones and blistered thin-crust pies topped with cheese, pepperoni, and basil. Or at least that’s how they used to do things here before 2020. During the pandemic, Carroll Gardens native Mark Iacono took phone reservations for outdoor dining for the first time. In mid-2021 he opened Baby Luc’s, a slice shop two blocks away from the original Lucali.
