Breaking Stones 1963-1965 A Band on the Brink of Superstardom Edited by Robin Morgan n July 1962, a group of young men played a gig at The Marquee Club on Oxford Street, London. They called themselves ‘The Rollin’ Stones’ and little did they know they would soon be making music history.
I
This evocative new book captures the youth, the times and the spirit of The Stones’ formative early years. Documenting 1963-1965 were two young photographers just starting out in their careers. Terry O’Neill, aged just 25, had a few years’ experience photographing musicians and knew that this group had the same magic as another British phenomenon that just recently started to chart, The Beatles. As the band was starting to record and tour, Gered Mankowitz came along. His first shoot, the now famous Mason’s Yard session, was so fruitful, Gered was asked to tag along on tour to America. Gered was a mere 19 when he picked up his camera and joined the band on stage in 1965. Between these two legendary photographers, they chronicle the band’s beginnings and these indelible images are forever placed in music’s consciousness. The photography throughout this book is embellished with various memories and interviews, celebrating the early days and giving an insight into what it must have felt like to go from a small club in Soho with no record deal to touring the world a few years later with a number one record. Terry O’Neill and Gered Mankowitz, two of the most respected, collected and exhibited photographers in the world were sitting in the front row.

2016 is set to be a huge year for the Rolling Stones, as London’s Saatchi Gallery hosts the first ever major exhibition dedicated to the band: Exhibitionism, a career-spanning, museum-style display of Stones artifacts and memorabilia. ACC Editions’ publication of this book is due to coincide with the opening of this ground-breaking exhibition.
I was impressed by The Stones. They were dressed casually, had mischief in them and were different to other bands. Terry O Neill

Gauguin Tales From Paradise Edited by Line Clausen Pedersen and Flemming Friborg rawing upon a refined selection of over eighty masterpieces, the catalogue, and the accompanying exhibition, explore the full career of the restless French artist Gauguin, analyzing the primitive tendency as ideology, as an artistic practice, and lastly as a heritage of vast importance for the development of painting through the entire 20th century.

Although Paul Gauguin is known mainly for his Polynesian adventures during his mature years, his search for the primitive was actually a lifelong search intended to attain a sole objective: the renewal of figuration and of all its canons. Picasso The Great War, Experimentation, and Change Simonetta Fraquelli, Elizabeth Cowling, Kenneth Silver, Dominique H. Vasseur, Ann Bremner icasso: The Great War, Experimentation, and Change examines the work that Pablo Picasso made in Paris during the tumultuous years of World War I.
P
Focusing on Picasso’s oeuvre from 1912 to 1924, when he utilized both Cubist and classical modes in his art, this fully illustrated catalogue highlights one of the most important periods in the history of modern art. Picasso’s shifts in style became a means of not repeating, in his words, ‘the same vision, the same technique, the same formula.’ With that approach in mind, the book also includes the work of Picasso’s peers and friends, artists who were also exploring themes relevant to the difficult times in which they lived. Published to accompany a major exhibition of the same name at the Barnes Foundation and the Columbus Museum of Art, this elegantly designed book is essential reading for all those interested in Picasso’s work and the dramatic and innovative period of art history during the Great War.

De Mey’s conclusion is unambiguous: Oswald could not have killed Kennedy. So who did, and why? Flip de Mey’s answers to these questions are shrewd and supported by a multiplicity of arguments. De Mey received international praise for Cold Case Kennedy - “Flip has written a very interesting book. I would recommend reading it.” Barry Ernest, author of bestselling JFK book The Girl on the Stairs.

Cold Case Kennedy is the first book to systematically scrutinize all aspects of the murder dossier. Why did Robert Kennedy remain silent? Was there really a magic bullet? What was the role of Lyndon Johnson in the drama? Was there more than one sniper? Why did the Warren Commission refuse to consider a third victim on Dealey Plaza? What was a convicted gangster doing in the building directly across from the Texas School Book Depository? And, last but not least: was the official investigation the most in-depth inquest ever to be carried out, or was it nothing more than a clumsy attempt to sweep things under the carpet? Take a front row seat in the investigation to discover what really happened in Dallas just after midday on November 22, 1963.

Speed, color, noise, excitement. Art Of The Race, V14 encapsulates the very essence of Formula 1 motor racing through the lens of Darren Heath, one of the sport’s most celebrated photographers. Art Of The Race captures the key moments and rarely seen footage of each race as the season unfolds, whether it’s the epic battle between McLaren teammates Hamilton and Rosberg, or the humbling drivers’ gathering in support of their colleague Jules Bianchi.
An all-access pass to the private world of Elvis Presley, as photographed by Thom Gilbert, who went behind the scenes to capture these stunning photographs of the people and possessions closest to the King himself. The result is a unique portrait of the man who was the most celebrated pop culture icon of the 20th century. Thom Gilbert is an award-winning photographer. Thom’s work has appeared in numerous publications, including New York Magazine, Interview, Gotham, and LA Confidential.
Drama and beauty abound on the plains of Africa and in this superb collection of images, Australian photographers Kym and Tonya Illman present an intimate insight into Earth’s greatest wilderness. This lavish book is the result of thousands of hours spent on safari in Africa. The Illmans’ innovative, and sometimes controversial, approach includes cameras buried at the edges of waterholes, mounted on aerial drones and on remote controlled buggies, with many lost to lions and elephants in the process. The authors also discuss the various elements that ensure a successful safari, from both a sightseeing and photographic viewpoint. In this exquisitely executed paean to the horse, celebrated photographer Bob Tabor celebrates the magnificence of the equine physique and the beauty of the horse’s nature. His images are evocative and intimate, so perfectly presented that we seem to feel the sinewy tension of the animal’s muscles and the sleek satin of their hair. Each photograph is a marvel in itself, arousing awe, tenderness, and sometimes amusement; and every viewing brings us closer to understanding the emotional bond and powerful connection between horse and human.
A unique portrait of Turkey’s legendary city, through the eyes of world-renowned photographers and a group of visual artists. Throughout the book, the photographs of Istanbul will take your breath away, and the key figure is the great Ara Güler, ‘The Eye of Istanbul’. He is joined by other contemporary photographers, but also actors, film directors, musicians and visual artists, with both existing and new work.

PALIO is a richly illustrated celebration of the legendary Italian horse race. Showcasing specially commissioned photography, epic film stills and rare archival images, PALIO is Italy in microcosm. This authoritative volume shows not only the civic ritualism and rich symbolism of this extraordinary event, but how the game is played both on and off the racetrack. For the assassin jockeys and the passionate Sienese – il Palio e vita – the Palio is life.
This is the first book on the film Help! This unique publication features both rare and unseen photos and materials drawn from private archives; all of which is remastered. Meticulously researched with support from Rex Features Archive, The British Film Institute, The Pete Nash Collection, The Vincent Vigil Collection, The Mark Hayward Collection, The Cavern Club, The Beatles Story Museum, The Hard Days Night Hotel, The Beatles Fest and many others. Richard Lester, the legendary director, has also lent his assistance releasing the original hand annotated movie script. The 25 mesmerizing works that make up this book are the latest in a series of iconic interiors that Höfer has photographed throughout the world over several decades. They are characterized by the photographer’s interest in communicating cultural memory, and are all linked by the total absence of people. Entitled Memory, the book develops the theme of a tripartite relationship between the person, the space and the past.
The product of a unique, almost 20-year artistic collaboration between two stars in their respective fields, the actor and cultural icon John Malkovich and the photographer Sandro Miller, The Malkovich Sessions represents a profound meeting of the minds. The centerpiece of this stunning book is ‘Homage’, a series of 32 images that recreate the iconic works of photographers whose work inspired and influenced Miller. Bracketed by Miller’s brilliant portraits of Malkovich as Malkovich, along with still work from a series of short films that the two made together, The Malkovich Sessions is a marvellous record of friendship and inspiration. Old convents; castles where one expects the inhabitants to wake up any minute after sleeping for 100 years; dismantled power plants; spooky abandoned hospitals; university auditoriums: Reginald Van de Velde is fascinated by all these rundown places. On his many journeys in Belgium and abroad, the seasoned adventurer sought out these places with just one objective in mind - to capture the transitory nature of these spaces.

There are 45 million widows living in India. Not so long ago, in some regions, a widow was expected to die with her dead husband on the pyre. While this is a thing of the past, widows still suffer from severe discrimination for the rest of their lives. Two years ago, Indian social reformer Dr Bindeshwar Pathak decided to face the challenge of counteracting these deep-rooted ideas. In Ghost Street, New Delhi, he opened a house for widows where they may find a new meaning for their lives. In this book multi-award winning artist Alice Smeets interprets traditional tarot cards through the art of photography. The scenes are inspired by the Rider Waite Tarot Deck, designed in 1919, and were recreated with a group of Haitian artists, the Atis Rezistans collective, in the ghettos of Haiti. The traditional symbolism of 78 tarot cards is transformed into timeless images.
In Love With Photography is a unique treasure in the history of photography presented here for the first time. Volker Hinz photographed those who normally remain hidden behind their cameras. Whenever and wherever he encountered them: at work, at home, in public or private moments. This is how a unique collection of the most renowned photographers of the second half of the 20th and the early 21st centuries came about.
Florian Müller photographs fetishists; people who dress up as dogs or let themselves be bound and hung from the ceiling. It is their way of relaxing and achieving fulfilment. At first sight what you see is masquerade; behind the masquerade lurks stories of people and their needs. Florian Müller worked on fetishism in Germany for several years. Sometimes it took weeks before the people trusted him and let him in on their sessions. He did not abuse their trust. His pictures are not revolting, but close, almost tender. In Los Angeles County there are more than seven million registered vehicles. But where do all those cars go to rest? The cars in this project are photographed as he finds them. Their covers are like nightgowns, though some sleep in the nude. Some take daytime naps and a few lucky ones get to sleep together. Occasionally proud car owners ask him if he wants them to move or uncover the car for the photograph, but, Ludwig says, ‘I generally don’t like them to disturb the cars in their sleep’. In this book Lisl Steiner gathers her engaging photographs in a kind of retrospective, pictures of Armstrong, Bernstein, Borges, Carter, Castro, Casals, Davis, Gulda, Eisenhower, Ellington, JFK, Mailer, Neruda, Niemayer, Nixon, Pele, B.B. King and Martin Luther King, or Kissinger in conversation with Beckenbauer in the bathtub. Her drawings and her life story complement the photographs. Lisl Steiner’s account of her life is colorful to the maximum. In one word: extraordinary.

The warm encounter of the classical and the modern, authenticity and luxury, defines the Flamant signature. Classical forms, natural materials and craftsmanship are combined and form a modern design. This philosophy forms the base of their international recognition and popularity. This prestigious book shows the diversity of styles Flamant has to offer, from classic and rustic to vintage and contemporary city design.
The current dominant interior style is surprisingly eclectic. In this book, art collectors, architects, designers and antiquarians mastering this trend, allow us to enter their private spaces. They mix different styles to form a new unity, combining old and new, sleek and baroque. The eclectic style does not have any rules and underlines the strong individual character of the decorator. Art historian Piet Swimberghe and photographer Jan Verlinde work for numerous magazines such as Elle Living, CotÊ Ouest, MTC and Weekend Knack. They have produced books on architecture, design and interiors and written many articles for European interior magazines. How do data journalism designers overcome information overload in today’s fast-paced environment, and find simple and compelling methods to filter and convey news content? One of the most effective ways is to use dynamic infographics and data visualizations. The use of powerful graphics and illustrations will capture the viewer’s attention and interest, and by burying boring data creatively, strong graphics will provide a clever and compelling visual story that’s driven by accessible and clear communication.

Stan Van Steendam’s obsession for street typography prompted him to create the magnificent, acclaimed book, Brussels Type. Now comes the sequel, Reading the Streets, in which Van Steendam travels abroad with the same mission. He likes to intuitively explore cities, using the typography on the city’s streets as his guide - signs with letters that tell a story about the chequered history of these cities. He photographs the typographic fragments he discovers, isolating them from their context. As a result, these sometimes beautiful, at times banal, and often impressive, typographic compositions take on a whole new meaning. The outcome is a series of personal photos, taken with old, analog cameras that succeed in representing the transitory nature of the city in a heartfelt and provocative manner.

Jefferson was the architect of the new America. A self-taught architect, Jefferson’s buildings are among America’s most famous: Monticello, the Virginia State Capitol and the University of Virginia are the starting points of American classical architecture. Jefferson was guided by his admiration for Palladio who provided him with key architectural forms and ideas. Palladio showed him how the building types of the Romans could be adapted to provide a rational, harmonious framework for living and for building a new society.

Landscaping is a critical element in improving both the function and appearance of rainwater recycling and stormwater management practices. Designing landscaped areas to soak up rainfall runoff from building and paved areas helps protect water quality in local creeks and waterways. These landscape designs reduce polluted runoff and help prevent creek erosion. As the runoff flows over vegetation and soil in the landscaped area, the water percolates into the ground and pollutants are filtered out or broken down by the soil and plants. Rainwater Park provides a definitive statement on stormwater management and rainwater recycling in urban park landscape design. Aesthetics and functionality determine the architectural language of the buildings of Alexander Brenner. Following the success of his first book, the multi-award winning architect from Stuttgart is now publishing a second volume with new houses and villas from between 2010 and 2015. Also available: Alexander Brenner: Houses ISBN 9783766718884
Unlike his previous books, this features essays by different authors on each of the new projects included. The range of the work presented is broad, from concert halls, to civic buildings to a private home. Projects are located in Spartanburg, Ft. Worth, Sarasota, Las Vegas, Gaithersburg, Alpharetta, Arizona and Washington DC.
The reliance for recognition more often is the responsibility of the trademark. This volume gives insight to a method of broader visual language that reduces this reliance and gives more opportunity for corporations to respond to business change, increasing product ranges and gaining higher visibility. This is not about advertising; it’s about utilizing existing budgets for a strong, more visible result.
Ken Cato reviews the learnings across 45 years of building, extending and conceiving brands from around the world. With first-hand experience in working cross-culturally in more than 100 countries, the author’s insights, strategy and design thinking that drives brand identity goes to the heart of common and unique issues confronting both small and large organizations. This contemporary look at some of the key drivers behind a company’s success is a must-have for any business. In architecture, a facade is the skin of a building. EcoFriendly Building Facade demonstrates just how important this ‘skin’ is by illustrating its impact on energy efficiency. Sunlight, ventilation, low energy, noise minimisation, rainwater harvest, prefabricated components, flexibility, etc., all the environmental elements are taken into consideration in the design process and are illustrated here with sufficiently detailed images, drawings and articles.
Their many various achievements are featured in this book, but Mauro Poponcini and Patrick Lootens also take the time to reflect on architecture in conversations with five prominent partners (Filip Canfyn, Bob Van Reeth, Kristiaan Borret, Bart Verschaffel, Henk Visch), about the architectural practice in Flanders and various other themes that they care about.

Washington, DC-area architect Robert M. Gurney, FAIA, designs ecologically aware modern homes using natural materials and varied construction methods. This book features photography and drawings of more than a dozen of Gurney’s most recent projects. Gurney is dedicated to the design of modern, meticulously detailed, thoughtfully ordered residential and commercial projects sensitive to site, program and budget. Materials are employed with honesty, integrity and ecological awareness.
A combination of difficult economic times, a premium on urban space and the modern trend for living alone means that living in small spaces has become a necessity, as much as a choice. But that needn’t mean living in cramped, unimaginative spaces. Stylish Living in Small Spaces shows how the challenges of small floor plans and compact interiors can be overcome with inventive modern design solutions and the innovative use of technology. This is a source of inspiration to those short of space and resources, but with a thirst for ingenuity and style.
This book showcases numerous projects that combine the beauty of the country’s ubiquitous tropical forests with extraordinary national symbols that are becoming increasingly popular over the years. It will satisfy those looking to absorb traditional Thai architecture. Through rich photography and full descriptions of numerous case studies, this book will introduce readers to the most current design ideas for contemporary Thai hotels and resorts.
In the Upper Valais region, the Lucerne-based Roman Hutter has produced three stringently designed wooden buildings since 2010 that are constructed using a traditional log-building method. Other competition successes that are still in the planning phase evoke rich moods and lead to a precise architectural expression.
The book is not a typical book. It consists of plates that can be opened, one after the other. Each plate is connected to the overall book by the continuous text, to the architect’s drive through the images of an iconographic autobiography, and to his works themselves through photos and rendering. As a book, it is primarily a piece of work in its own right, an object that evokes new impressions in the viewer. Since the end of the 1990s, Valerio Olgiati has been regarded as one of the most independent and exceptional exponents of Swiss architecture. The book compiles all his important buildings and projects since 1996 - as well as a complete catalogue of works and a bibliography.

Since his first projects in the 1980s, drawings have always accompanied the architectural work of Peter Märkli. They are patiently recorded images and thoughts that occasionally have an associative relationship with the designs. Often however they are independent, free notes based on inner images. This volume compiles a large number of such drawings. Eight texts by various authors from different cultural fields and an overview of all drawings produced since the beginning complement this remarkable collection.
Each building by this Geneva-based architectural team is based on a powerful idea that is often developed from the eminently urban location. The idea serves as the basis for sophisticated solutions for major residential developments, commercial and administrative buildings and houses that are often refined into architectural gems with a poetic appearance.
An outstanding building was created for the vocational school in Vouvry VS, which has a sports hall at its center. Natural light shines through the ceiling and onto two surrounding walkways. Since then, the team has designed a number of other inventive buildings.
These young Zurich architects have already enjoyed a number of competition successes, including a school building with a wonderful appearance in Ballwil LU, which was achieved using red-washed timber. Its expression skilfully shifts between appropriate nobility and a warm radiance that is compatible with the world of children.

Following a number of competition successes, they have produced several buildings with precise skill, such as the extension to the Cantonal School in Heerbrugg, which smoothly continues the characteristics of the existing buildings and surprises with rich interiors.
Kazunari Sakamoto (born 1943) has mainly been working on smaller residential buildings, in which he questions and explores the principles of architecture. His buildings and theoretical works have had a big influence on contemporary Japanese architecture. The lecture in this book is about his search for spaces, which enables the people to be free from the constraints and restrictions of our society and to develop freely.
Following Papers and Papers 2, the third volume in the series contains papers written by Jonathan Sergison and Stephen Bates between 2008 and 2014. Illustrated with photographs and drawings, the papers focus on some of the themes that are at the heart of the work of Sergison Bates architects and their approach to architectural practice, such as domesticity, typology and density.
Buildings by the Geneva architect Pierre-Alain Dupraz always reveal experimental elements, little inventions that are refined to produce an aesthetic overall result. For instance a villa is developed out of a module of prefabricated garage boxes, or a crèche has underground rooms aligned around a large interior courtyard.
Public landscapes are an integral part of city life. They not only add beauty to the city, but also maintain a harmony and balance between human and environment. The spaces illustrated include parks, streets, squares, commercial and educational spaces, and cultural spaces. It illustrates the most unique landscape designs from design concept to detailed description, from overall landscapes to partial features.

Traditional country parks, which originated in the United Kingdom, are very different to the country parks we know today. With the development of urbanization and the improvement of living standards, city dwellers were no longer satisfied with small urban green spaces, and a new style of country park was born. Country Parks includes detailed theory and case studies showcasing outstanding international country park design; analyzes and promotes the current status and development of the country park and its role in urban development; and provides valuable guidance for professional designers working in the field today. As people witness the effects of climate change storms of greater frequency and severity - stormwater management in green streetscape design provides an added safeguard that can help mitigate flash flooding during these events. This book provides a toolkit and reference of design projects for city agencies, contractors, and landscape designers to help them achieve their goals. Offering a detailed green streetscape design guideline with accompanying stormwater management methods, the book is augmented with selected design cases, presented with rich narratives, detailed plans and drawings, and beautiful photography. Walking and cycling are becoming a fashionable lifestyle choice - both as a low-impact exercise and a healthy means of travel. There is ever-growing demand for the construction of pedestrian and cyclist paths internationally. This book showcases several exciting design projects of pedestrian and cyclist paths across a range of environments, from cities to local communities, urban to larger national parks. The book includes an informative design guide and a set of criteria that should provide strong reference materials for professionals and students in related design fields. SMART Landscape is a significant contribution to the conversation on sustainable landscape design, providing energy efficient models and water saving landscape ideas. This book shows techniques for creating landscapes that save water, for example by choosing correct planting materials; reducing stormwater run-off through the use of bio-swales, rain gardens and green roofs and walls; reducing water usage in landscapes through best-practice water-wise garden techniques, including irrigation using gray water.
This full-color, highly illustrated book focuses on the rich natural landscapes of well-designed wetland parks and botanic gardens, which are often strong attractions for a range of tourism and leisure facilities. In particular, ecological theme parks are popular with visitors and provide much sought-after areas for relaxation and leisure entertainment. Many of the case studies featured in this book cover the significant roles that environmental protection and climate regulation play in the creation and maintenance of wetland parks and botanic gardens, including the importance of science education in this field.

The idea of a ‘healing garden’ is well established in many developed countries as a specific form of landscape design method; it meets the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the people using the garden, as well as their caregivers, family members and friends. Shown through detailed theory and illustrations, the first part of this book focuses on the concept, types, and design considerations. The second part provides insightful design descriptions, detailed plan drawings and photos showing the final, built projects on a wide range of types of healing gardens. As the pace of urbanization accelerates and population and building densities increase, there’s much less park space available for people to enjoy. With less investment outlay and a smaller area required, ‘pocket parks’ could provide the solution for the creation of highly sought-after spaces for activities in high-density city environments. This book studies the characteristics of the pocket park and the relationship between the landscape and people, and it is perfect source material for landscape designers and urban planners.
Public Green Space in the Community refers to the public space that is located in sections of residential land, often a space providing entertainment facilities and a place for the community to interact across various activities. With the rapid development of the urbanization process, people are paying much more attention to the construction of infrastructure in their living environments, thus the construction of public green space is steadily increasing on a larger scale. The construction of green space not only helps improve the quality of residential living spaces and the level of public welfare, but these spaces also inspire residents’ participation in the community. Water as a resource is irreplaceable. Yet heavy rainfall can become an absolute disaster - even in modern cities - if rainwater is not drained out in time. The term “Sponge City” refers to the idea of a city where its urban underground water system operates like a sponge to absorb, store, leak and purify rainwater, and release it for reuse when necessary. This book comprises 41 projects of urban landscape architecture, showing the exploration of the role of water management in urban spatial planning.
Open spaces, sport and outdoor recreation are important components of people’s lives. They provide many cultural, social, economic and environmental benefits and contribute positively to physical and mental health. The primary purpose of sports parks is to provide for organized sports and physical activity. These spaces need to function with a high degree of organization and should cater for sports uses ranging from junior team training to major competitive events, at both the local and city-wide levels. This impressive book features the newest design projects from designers around the world, and offers new and exciting ideas for sports park landscape design.

Agnes Martin and Me Donald Woodman
O
ne of the outstanding artists of the 20th century, Agnes Martin created ethereal abstractions while living almost as a hermit in New Mexico and issuing Zen-like pronouncements about her art. Photographer Donald Woodman, who shared her property (which he owned) and her life for seven rollercoaster years, takes us behind that legend in this affectionate and respectful, unvarnished and candid account to reveal an exasperating, troubled, earthy, but brave and determined painter. At the heart of the memoir is a surreal journey with Martin down Canada’s Mackenzie River, toward the Arctic, which her “voices” instructed her to undertake. Illustrated by Woodman’s photographs, this book adds a crucial dimension to the Martin story and is destined to become a small classic of art biography. Agnes Martin at Tate Modern (through Oct 2015) presents the first comprehensive survey of the seminal artist Agnes Martin. Martin was renowned for her subtle, evocative canvases marked out in pencil grids and pale color washes. This internationally touring show demonstrates Agnes Martin as one of the pre-eminent painters of the twentieth century and traces her career from early experiments to her final painting from 2004. Agnes Martin is cocurated at Tate Modern by Frances Morris, Director of Collection, International Art and Tiffany Bell, with Dr Lena Fritsch, Assistant Curator, Tate Modern. The exhibition is organized by Tate Modern in collaboration with Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Solomon R Guggenheim Museum, New York where it will tour throughout 2015 and 2016.

“
Agnes Martin is currently the subject of a traveling retrospective organized by Tate Modern, which travels to Germany and the US (LACMA and the Guggenheim) in 2016. Woodman’s story is an enjoyably readable, pull-no-punches account of a period when Martin was close to few people providing a picture of “missing” years in this important painter’s life.

An exceptional woman, Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun was already a renowned portraitist for the nobility at the age of twenty. From 1777, she became the official painter of the queen Marie Antoinette. VigéeLebrun did not cease to paint until her death in 1845. This book presents 40 selected masterpieces from the 130 paintings exhibited at the Grand Palais, Paris, from September 2015, then at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and The National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa. For the first time Katoen Natie, a global logistics service provider, shows its collection of modern and contemporary art from Latin America, the biggest collection in Europe. Renowned experts such as Laura Malosetti Costa and Christina Rossi discuss Latin American art and the 44 artists from the collection which includes Joaquín Torres García and Diego Rivera. This lavishly illustrated catalogue shows the artistic diversity of a fascinating continent.
Bill Jacklin has concentrated on painting ‘urban portraits’ of New York in all its guises - from large scale canvases of crowds in flux to intimate moments in Seurat-like etchings. The Foreword is by Sting, an avid collector of Jacklin’s work. Well-known art historian Michael Peppiatt contributes an insightful interview with the artist, providing an overview of his body of work as shaped by New York. This is the first monograph on Bill Jacklin for over 20 years.
Delicate jellyfish and anemones, octopus, tentacled squid, and bizarre-looking soft-bodied sea creatures were meticulously recreated in glass by father and son artists Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka in the late 19th century. The Blaschka invertebrate models were commissioned by universities and museums throughout the world as teaching models for students of natural science and marine life. Illustrated here for the first time are 60 of the most exquisite models.
Drawing upon a refined selection of over eighty masterpieces, the catalogue and accompanying exhibition explore the full career of the restless French artist Gauguin, analyzing the primitive tendency as ideology, as an artistic practice, and lastly as a heritage of vast importance for the development of painting through the entire 20th century.
This publication represents a comprehensive study of Impressionism in Canada for the first time. From its beginnings in France, via the dissemination of the new style through artists, gallerists, dealers and collectors in North America, and its incorporation into and propagation within a hitherto conservative milieu, to the reception of Canadian Impressionism both nationally and internationally.

This book highlights 55 outstanding masterpieces from the National Galleries of Scotland. The works range in date from the Renaissance to the 20th century and include many of the most famous names in the history of Western art. Artists represented include Botticelli, El Greco, Velàzquez, Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Watteau, Monet, Degas, Sargent, Picasso and Braque. All of the paintings are fully illustrated and described in this catalogue authored by the curatorial staff of the Galleries. Known worldwide for his architecture and interior designs, Mackintosh was also an extremely gifted painter. Meticulously executed and brilliantly colored, his landscape watercolors are conceived with a sense of design and an eye for pattern in nature, which owes much to his brilliance as an architect and designer. This book charts Mackintosh’s time in France and explores his career as a landscape painter, placing his work in the context of the modern movement. Charles François Daubigny (1817-1878) was one of the most important French landscape painters of the nineteenth century. This book reassesses his work and examines his importance for the Impressionists, as well as Van Gogh. The book accompanies an exhibition at the Taft Museum of Art, Cincinnati from 19 February to 26 May 2016.
Parmigianino (1503-1540) was among the leading artists of Mannerism, the style that characterised the later years of the Italian High Renaissance and spread throughout Europe, and is known for the exquisite grace and refinement of his art. Parmigianino was extremely precocious, and after having absorbed the innovations coming from different artistic centers of Northern Italy (Venice, Ferrara, Cremona, Parma), at only 19 years of age he went to Rome and was presented to the Pope. Never satisfied with the results attained, he drew and sketched continuously leaving us an exceptional legacy.

Ben Uri Gallery and Museum was founded 100 years ago in London’s East End by Russian-Jewish émigré Lazar Berson and like-minded, mostly émigré, artists and craftsmen. From its inception as an Art Society, steeped in a vibrant Yiddish culture, to its position today as the only specialist Jewish museum of art in Europe working wholly in the mainstream, Ben Uri’s unique international collection has more than 1,300 artworks across a wide range of subjects and media, created by more than 380 artists. Marking the remarkable century of Ben Uri Gallery and Museum, this publication covers each aspect of the century’s art history in parallel with the effect of émigré and Jewish artists on the cultural mosaic of Britain and Europe. Distinguished scholars survey the ‘Whitechapel Boys’; Yiddish London, Les Peintres Juifs de L’Ecole de Paris, mid-century émigrés influencing the direction of the arts, and contemporary artists making ground-breaking work across new media. Marking the remarkable century of Ben Uri Gallery and Museum, from humble beginnings in London’s East End in 1915 to a fully-fledged mainstream art museum, under its banner Art, Identity and Migration , this publication reveals eleven essays covering each aspect of the century’s art history in parallel with the effect of émigré and Jewish artists on the cultural mosaic of Britain and Europe.
This publication accompanies Ben Uri’s first major exhibition on Sir William Rothenstein. Spanning six decades of British art, it explores Rothenstein’s career and influence within the context of his contemporaries who were all either directly influenced by or worked alongside him.
Elsa Sahal experiments with the idea of volume and balance in sculpture, while returning to an exploration of the themes of the body and femininity. Ambiguous, dense, sensual and colorful, her works oscillate between anthropomorphic landscape and the landscaped body, taking up Cézanne’s dream of uniting women’s curves with the shoulders of hills. Elsa Sahal conceives, kneads and then produces complex and disturbing forms sustained by dense colors and sublimated through enamel. More than 17 years after her death, Ilse D’Hollander’s oeuvre is still internationally appreciated and frequently exhibited. This book shows her enormous concentration and condensed power. This book looks at a number of great collections: contemporary art, vintage fashion, wallpapers, ceramics, contemporary jewelry, and even rare and fine books. Some collectors have customized their spaces at home to accommodate their collections, while others have transformed their abodes into warehouses, desperately trying to find room for their next acquisition. This book draws out the collector’s personality and their ‘hunt’ for the next piece in their extraordinary ‘puzzles’. Anatolia: Home of Eternity is the catalogue that accompanies the main exhibition at Europalia Arts Festival, Turkey. It looks at the heart of Turkish culture and illustrates masterpieces brought together from museums and from prestigious collections, such as the Topkapi Palace Museum, the Istanbul Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara.
Architecture and perspective are the common denominators in the oeuvre of Hans Vandekerckhove. Gimme Shelter illustrates 90 of his paintings. Hans has compiled all of his work, which originated from his passion for architecture, ranging from the archetypes from his youth, when he had a studio in his uncle’s greenhouse, modern architecture by Mies van de Rohe, and the buildings by Peter Zumthor, to the need of a ‘home’, as a breeding ground for inspiration. In his work, Guy Leclef always aims to find the essence, purity and simplicity of things. His signature eye for detail turns his art with paper into an experience. You could even refer to it as poetic recycling. At the same time, his paper collages always contain a fair amount of humor, hinting at everyday life. Pieces of paper used as paint, thick or paper-thin strokes, queer, impregnated, cut and glued. They’re all used as the raw materials for Leclef ’s art.
This book focuses on the feeling that is omnipresent but difficult to comprehend: ‘Shame’. You may feel it when you’ve accidently said something inappropriate or you may feel it as a result of your small or larger physical imperfections, as a result of poverty, or even psychological problems. Character, but also time, place, and culture play a role. With objects from other cultures, historical psychiatry documents, testimonies, essays and illustrations, the exhibition and the book approach the feeling from many different angles. Young, independent and fiercely talented, Londonbased Hattie Stewart is a self-styled professional doodler, an extremely modest moniker for the artist, who has worked extensively with publications and brands worldwide (including Adidas, Urban Outfitters and Marc Jacobs), and has exhibited in the UK, US, and Berlin. Her striking, colorful creations are rich with humor, dark touches and deceptive complexity, and this collection of 32 of her most vibrant works is the perfect gift for lovers of art and fashion.

The Conservation of Feathers Ellen Pearlstein
Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805-1873) was the most renowned portraitist of European aristocracy of his day, expertly capturing the refinement and opulence of his distinguished career. This lavishly illustrated publication complements Winterhalter’s magnificent portraits of crowned heads of state with selected items of clothing by the contemporary and soughtafter couturier Charles Frederick Worth.
Insights/Outlooks grants unexpected, beautiful and provoking insights into the diversity of the collection of treasures held in Leipzig’s GRASSI Museum of Applied Arts. In this book, highlights of the collection meet hidden treasures; the works meet face to face and present a wonderful survey of the diverse forms of applied art and design.
Through a decade of friendship, sharing the same environs and being active collectors, Sonja and Christian Graber are inextricably connected to the photographer Annelies Strba, the jewelry and object artist Bernhard Schobinger and the painter Adrian Schiess. To mark the occasion of the donation of the Graber collections to the museum, the three internationally renowned artists along with hitherto largely unpublished works are now united in one publication. The Conservation of Feathers contains case studies of conservation treatments from students working in UCLA Getty.

The National Museum in Warsaw is home to a plethora of striking objects: from a collection of Chinese art to Polish paintings from the sixteenth century onwards. In 2012 the permanent galleries were rehung; paintings are now arranged thematically rather than chronologically. Visitors can compare Italian with Flemish, Polish with German art while wandering through rooms of landscapes, cityscapes, biblical scenes and more.
The National Museum, Sultanate of Oman is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the treasures of Oman’s cultural heritage. A magnificent new building marks the emergence of this major new international museum, and will house more than 7,000 pieces showcasing Oman’s history from the earliest human settlement to the present time.
A pioneering painter and printmaker, Nikolai Astrup (1880-1928) spent his life capturing the landscapes of his home in Western Norway, imbuing his work with mysticism and an enigmatic symbolic content. Over 90 oil paintings and prints explore the breadth and depth of Astrup’s unique artistic practice, shining a spotlight on one of Norway’s most renowned artists of the twentieth century.
Thanks to an extraordinary scientific imagery technique (L.A.M.), this book takes us on a journey into the heart of the paint-layers of the world’s most famous picture and reveals secrets that have remained hidden for 500 years. Mona Lisa is not actually Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo, but a portrait that masks others. Leonardo da Vinci did not paint one, but four portraits, superimposed on top of one another. More than 150 discoveries help us rediscover the painting’s genesis.

His many portraits of sailors, clergymen, landowners and their families will strike a chord with readers of Jane Austen’s novels. Collectors of ceramics and watercolors are familiar with his name and print collectors know the superbly executed color prints based on his compositions. He passionately admired Greek art and the decorative elegance of Greek vase painting was always in his mind. It is this that makes his work so distinctive.
The artwork of Hiroshi Harada cannot possibly be captured in a single category. He is modern, not only in his way of painting, but also in the way he touches and overwhelms us with the exuberant colors from his inner repertoire, with lines and surfaces that intersect or not. Each of his paintings is an invitation to contemplation. In all, he stays true to his Eastern roots and the idea that beauty can be found in imperfection.
The exhibition STUDIO examines some of the various readings of the artist’s studio through the work of Norbert Tadeusz (1940-2011), a German artist who frequently made the studio his subject. A contemporary of internationally recognized artists such as Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, Blinky Palermo, Georg Baselitz, and Jörg Immendorff, Tadeusz was associated with the so-called NeoExpressionist (or New Wild) German figurative painting of the 1980s, though he always resisted categorization.
Tim Shaw is one of the UK’s leading sculptors. He has had significant solo exhibitions throughout the UK, Ireland and internationally and has his work in many public and private art collections. Shaw has undertaken a number of major public commissions and sculpture, including the Rites of Dionysus for The Eden Project, The Minotaur for the Royal Opera House, London and The Drummer for Lemon Quay, Truro. This book offers great insight and perspectives on the practice of an important artist who is concerned primarily with matters of civilization.
The book is inspired by Gregory of Nyssa’s Contemplations On The Life Of Moses, in which he uses the familiar story of Moses’ life as an allegory of the journey of the soul. Lillian Delevoryas is an accomplished artist. Although she is neither a writer nor a theologian, her insight as an artist gives this book a modern dimension to the understanding of ancient truths. The book is characterized by an unexpectedly refreshing quality. It is the original and spontaneous response of the artist to the inner sense found in the profound wisdom of an early saint.

In The Philosophy of Hinduism, Dr. S Radhakrishnan has explained the central tenets of Hinduism, its philosophical and spiritual doctrine, religious experience, ethical character and traditional faiths. Radhakrishnan’s analysis of religions is highly intellectual and balanced and his lectures have also received a whole-hearted response in the UK. The articles in the book reflect the mind of this great philosopher, who has been hailed as another Vivekananda.

Published in association with the V&A Museum, London, this volume features original research and lavish illustrations.
Block Printed Textiles of India: Imprints of Culture describes how one of the subcontinent’s foremost crafts has created a visual identity in India and has also been a significant source of revenue through centuries of international trade. Block prints are integral to both caste dress and modern urban style and have become a perennial favorite with Indian designers and in the global fashion market. Contemporary production and use of block prints is explained, and the social and historical roots of the craft are outlined in the book.
Scottish photographer John Thomson (1837-1921) was one of the most influential photographers of the 19th century and a pioneer of photojournalism. His photographs are of stunning vistas of Chinese landscapes, architecture and city scenes, intimate portraits of Manchu brides in full wedding costumes and Mandarin officials in government attire. Three informative chapters introduce the photographer and his work with detailed captions accompanying each illustration. This revised version is in a new more accessible format.
Researched from a diverse and extensive source materials (including directories, documents in city archives, newspapers, fieldnotes, postcards, etc.) Unseen Siam. Early Photography 1860-1910 reveals the careers of 15 lesser-unknown early photographers who worked in Siam, many of whom became court photographer to the then ruling King of Siam. Their work was not only restricted to their photographic cartes-de-visite, as is usually the case, but also large sized images from attributable albums and portfolios. Each reproduced photograph is fully catalogued and thus in many cases discloses the name of the photographer of some otherwise well-known images for the first time.

Master of Art Deco Alberto Shayo
It is a vast world one enters when writing on the statuettes of the Art Deco era: both in terms of the number of artists that contributed to it, and the number of figures they created. This book studies the influences that shaped these artists’ work.
One of the most important sculptors of the Art Deco era, Demétre Chiparus (1886-1947) was a Romanian sculptor who lived and worked in Paris, France. This book is a stunning monograph covering his work as both a sculptor and a painter.
Roland Paris is one of the most recognizable artists of the Art Deco world, yet his work remains something of an enigma; his art is caricature-like, bordering on the grotesque. This study focuses on Paris’ life and work, and his trials and tribulations while living in Nazi-ruled Germany.

Although Irish whiskey is currently the fastest-growing global spirits category and Irish pure pot still has long been a favorite drink among whiskey critics and connoisseurs, the existing literature is still surprisingly sparse. This book illustrates the production, history, and appreciation of Irish pot still whiskey and will introduce casual drinkers to the richness of these whiskeys as well as being a collector’s item for established whiskey connoisseurs. This book follows the story of the Flying Scotsman in a way that no other history has, expertly weaving together the tale of the locomotive with a wider historical narrative. It delves into the less-known stories of the train, and features superb examples of poster art and other publicity materials to promote the service, and documentary photography. Written by the current curator of the National Rail Museum, the story of the Flying Scotsman has never been told so well. Listed in the Domesday Book as a Saxon manor, Leeds Castle in Kent has played many roles in the intervening centuries. It has been a Norman stronghold; the private property of six of England’s queens; a palace used by Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon; a Jacobean country house; a Georgian mansion; an elegant early 20th-century playground and retreat for the influential and famous; and finally, in the 21st century, it has become one of the most visited historic buildings in Britain. Magdalen College is one of the most beautiful of the Oxford colleges, founded in 1458. Over the centuries the College has built and rebuilt itself, developing an impressive physical presence and was finally finished in 2016. It is unique in possessing a College Deer Park, and its Muniment Room is a very rare example of a late fifteenth-century space still furnished with its original oak furniture and fittings.
This stunning museum houses one of the finest collections of early instruments from Europe and the Islamic world. Together with a fascinating range of material from the eighteenth century to the present day, these artifacts offer an intriguing insight into ingenuity and creativity, and tell amazing stories of human scientific endeavor in a wider cultural and social context. The Director hand-picks favorite items and provides an intimate, idiosyncratic guide.
Arguably the most famous bridge in the world, Tower Bridge was built in the late nineteenth century and immediately acclaimed as a feat of Victorian engineering. This book tells the story of the bridge and its design with a range of stunning historical and contemporary photos. The bridge’s history is brought to life with an array of fascinating facts and colorful anecdotes. With a contemporary design and striking cover, this will be the perfect introduction to one of London’s most impressive sights.

This evocative new book captures the youth, the times, and the spirit of The Stones’ formative years. Documenting 1963-1965 were two young photographers just starting out in their careers: Terry O’Neill and Gered Mankowitz. Between these two legendary photographers, they document the band’s beginnings and these indelible images are forever placed in music’s consciousness. The photography throughout this book is embellished with various memories and interviews, celebrating the early days, giving an insight into what it must have felt like to go from a small club in Soho to touring the world with a number one record. Beginning with rockabilly, moving on to folk music, sliding over to electric, and falling into a psychedelic phase, like a chameleon Bob Dylan has changed his skin repeatedly over the years, juggling his image with apparent ease and subverting the prevailing social and aesthetic models each time. The clothes, faces, music and places of those years become subjects to color in, paper-dolls to dress, and board games to assemble, while the characters of his songs provide the members of a colorful circus. This is the ultimate collector’s activity-book.

Curves is a high-quality magazine, produced with love and aimed to be read by all who drive, bike or cycle with passion and seek the joy and adventure of the open road. People who are prepared to shake off their shackles and live their exclusive dream. It is a magazine for those for whom the planning of a journey is an act of celebration. It is designed for the devotees and dreamers who experience the drive in their mind’s eye before even embarking on the reallife adventure. Nicknamed ‘The Green Hell’ by Jackie Stewart following his victory in the 1968 Grand Prix, Nürburgring race track has been a source of endless fascination for anyone involved in or following motorsports - partly because of its history and partly because of the challenge it provides. The official book of the Nürburgring GmbH jubilee, and published alongside the release of a film, The Green Hell offers an insight into the track that’s never been shown before. A Maserati A6G 2000 Gran Sport. A Facel Vega Excellence. A Hispano-Suiza H6B. A Bugatti 57 Ventoux. Alain Delon’s Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider - the list of classic automobiles forgotten for decades is unbelievable. Roger Baillon intended to establish the first automobile museum of France before setbacks forced him to sell part of his impressive collection. What was left his descendants have now handed to other collectors.
After his last book Escapes, Stefan Bogner returns to the Alps again with this illustrated book. This time not only did he photograph particular routes, but he looked for the ideal tour through the Alps: 3 countries, 14 passes - the perfect little escape for 4 days. Porsche Drive focuses on the journey in Porsche models such as Porsche 906, Porsche 911, Porsche 918 and more. Stefan Bogner drives his own Porsche 911 1970 ST. The book also offers information on each route and height profile. Great sports figures are the modern equivalent of heroes. A history of sport is necessarily a story of individuals: tales of redemption and emancipation from modest upbringings, stories of sacrifice and success. In this book, the biographies of thirty great soccer champions are exciting as a run toward the goal posts, they keep you holding your breath as in those seconds that precede a penalty kick, and in each of them there is a curious aspect, an heroic moment and a touch of poetry.

This memoir chronicles a sparse population, structures shattered by time, and roving officials of the British Crown trying to comprehend the mysteries of the vast land of India with its divine dignity conversing with ruins of imposing architectural buildings. The author Lt Col. Forrest made colored drawings of ancient monuments on the spot to see the beauty of their inner form beyond what is seen by the bodily eye. Some facts given by Forrest have become obsolete, but the work as a whole summons the readers to a journey into creativity and to selfhood. An engrossing account of the mediaeval period of Indian history.

In this collection of beautiful and poignant tales, Oscar Wilde employs his characteristic grace and wit and reveals a softer contemplative side to his writing. Written for his two sons, the stories have an enduring appeal for children, combining, as they do, a moral message in a fantastical framework. Along with ‘The Happy Prince’, the tale of the compassionate statue who cannot bear to witness the suffering of the townspeople he watches over, this volume includes ‘The Nightingale and the Rose’, ‘The Devoted Friend’, ‘The Remarkable Rocket’, and ‘The Selfish Giant’. Thanks to the genius of Oscar Wilde, each of these stories is unique and unforgettable.
The Jungle Book is a rich and spirited collection of stories set deep in the Indian jungle. In these timeless adventures, we meet tigers and bears, snakes and mongooses, elephants and seals, and most famously Mowgli, the ‘man-cub’ adopted by a pack of wolves who must learn the ways of jungle life, its colorful characters and its many dangers. Enveloping the reader in all the color, sounds, and heat of the lush jungle, The Jungle Book speaks to the very essence of storytelling: its power to create wonder and teach us about our world. As we get to know the iconic characters of Mowgli, Baloo and Shere Khan in their natural habitats, we can also learn a little something about ourselves. Leave your preconceptions at the jungle’s edge. It’s time to explore.
Mary Lennox is spoilt and rude. After the passing of her parents she is sent to live with her uncle in the austere Misselthwaite Manor in Yorkshire. Horribly lonely she befriends a robin who helps her to find the key to a secret place that has been kept hidden for years. What she finds is a transformative and healing garden full of vigor and charm. Here she discovers new friends and unearths new depths to her character. Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924), an American-English playwright and fiction writer, is celebrated for her children’s stories. As well as The Secret Garden, she is best known for her creation of Little Lord Fauntleroy and A Little Princess.

Melbourne is a stately European-style city that emanates elegance and charm. The city’s laneways are filled with surprises, and the generous parklands and wide boulevards make for an enjoyable afternoon stroll. The city’s vibrant café culture and sartorial splendor add to this European sensibility. By exploring Melbourne’s bustling streets and laneways you will encounter a rich architectural legacy and extraordinary contemporary artistic flair. There are also gems hidden in the basement of a building, or via a flight of stairs leading above the street. Make sure you look up, too, as some of the interesting decor is way above eye level. Since his son’s biography, published in 1892, Palmer has been seen as the victim of Victorian materialism, a visionary who sacrificed his talent to the naturalism popular with the middle classes. Palmer was selftaught, and experimented throughout his life with unconventional techniques in his determination to convey the ‘infinity and endless suggestiveness’ of nature. Through a close examination of the works by Palmer in the Ashmolean Museum and other collections, both public and private, and a fresh reading of his letters, many of them unpublished, Samuel Palmer & the Poetical Landscape offers a unique account of the artist’s art and life. François Meyer was awakened very early to the appeal of contemporary art; his father was a great collector. Meyer began his photography career at worldrenowned Swiss photographers Boissonas. Here, he developed a love of photography and has, over the years, gone on to photograph some of the world’s best-known and best-loved artists. Included in this stunning book are portraits of Fernando Botero, Sonia Delaunay, Helen Frankenthaler, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Beverley Pepper, Pierre & Giles, Andy Warhol, and Yan Pei-Ming to name just a few. This book tells the story of the forty-year career of a passionate art collector and photographer. Victor Chinnery’s scholarly work covers the history and development of furniture in oak and kindred timbers in the British Isles and New England, from the Middle Ages through to 1800. The subject is broken down into a logical sequence of aspects and each section is generously illustrated. The furniture shown ranges from the finest examples of the period, to the sort of sturdy and workmanlike pieces which modern collectors will find affordable. The study of oak furniture is a remarkably rich and varied subject, which reflects at several levels the social and domestic life of many generations of our ancestors. The world’s biggest Heavy Metal festival celebrates its 25th anniversary! The author depicts its history from the early beginnings, complete with the description of all the bands attending throughout the years and last but not least he tells the stories of all those fans who turn the small rural village of Wacken once a year in August into “the people’s republic of Wacken” with its unique atmosphere!

Monteverdi is a village in val d’Orcia, one of the most beautiful countrysides of Tuscany and declared a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO. This book illustrates the extraordinary work of restoration and transformation which has been carried out. This charming medieval village has been saved from its state of abandonment and neglect through the care and sensibility of Ilaria Miani, architect and interior designer, who has returned it to its original lovely appearance and supported by Michael L. Cioffi. Ten years ago he stepped into the village of Castiglioncello del Trinoro in Tuscany. Although the village was physically dilapidated, he found in her old bones, perched above the rolling fields of Tuscany, the story of a rich history, culture and land. Seduced by this story and propelled by love, he began to restore and preserve the village, giving birth to the vision of Monteverdi, now fully realized, as seen in the pages of this book.
For a landscape, a monument or an urban ensemble to be inscribed in the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites they need to be one thing above all: a part of the legacy of all mankind, the heritage of the world’s population that needs to be protected. To date, more than 1,000 sites, monuments and natural spaces have been inscribed as the “Heritage of Humanity” according to the rules of UNESCO, and benefit from a specially protected status. The compact volume presents all the World Heritage sites with superb photographs. Informative texts provide background information, and maps help to locate each site.
Alongside technology, design is the key criterion that decides whether or not a car is regarded as attractive. Throughout its history, Audi AG has always understood how to strike the right balance between these poles. The results have been so harmonious that models bearing the four interlocking rings have always been among the most sought-after cars on the planet. The everincreasing sales figures enjoyed by Audi worldwide are a testament to the value that good, minimalist design has gained in everyday life. It is thus hard to think of a better time to publish the standard reference work on this subject. Over two volumes, Prof. Othmar Wickenheiser explains and analyzes the Audi aesthetic in all its aspects. When describing the work of automobile designers, he has the uncanny knack of explaining complex matters using crystal-clear examples, also drawing attention to details that might otherwise go unnoticed. The past, present and future of the marque are seamlessly linked into a fascinating masterpiece that is sure to please a wide audience, not just the fans of Audi design.
