The kitchen was inspired by the dotted tiles of the iconic Italian designer Gio Ponti. The glass tiles were handmade by StudioSilice: an artisanal workshop in the heart of Rome.

The bookcase–designed by architect Annarita Aversa–contains a collection of objects selected by designer Martino Gamper. The yellow armchairs by L’Atelier de Recherche Plastique (A.R.P.) date back to 1953. The Gemstone Table by Dutch designer Hella Jongerius is from 2013.

The central stairwell looks as if it was lifted straight from a Piranesi drawing. The contrast between the white stairwell and the colorful surroundings further enhances the sculptural effect.

The chairs in the children’s room are from the Finnish brand Artek: a children’s version of the N65 chair.

CANDY CANE There would be color in her flat; that much was certain. She simply loves color. “I worked for David Chipperfield and other somewhat minimalist bureaus in London for a while. Since returning to Milan in 2009 and starting my own studio, I’ve been going at it all out,” she says with a laugh. “I love aged ‘dusty’ colors. In the living room and hall I went for a timeless sage green. For the corridor, the only space without direct daylight, I used deep cyan. The weathered old, blue strip leads to the bedroom, which is the same color. A dark tint like that in a bedroom seems to embrace you,” she explains. “I love layered interiors. That’s why I incorporate something unexpected into every project. In this case, it’s the candy-cane pink of the kitchen, which provides a cheerful, poppy tone. These walls were actually carrying this color long before it turned hip.”

To create wider spaces, Lacasa had iron pillars installed. The two white antique amazon sculptures were bought from a Parisian antique dealer. The pink-velvet wing chairs and rural coffee table come from La Europea in Madrid. Right behind the red sofa is a new-edition Jean ProuvĂŠ armchair by Vitra. The sitting area holds a lot of contemporary design items: the red sofa by the Bouroullec brothers, the cork stools by Jasper Morrison, and the marble coffee table by Piero Lissoni.
