A FESTIVAL OF CULTURE & CREATIVITY

Mon 24 - Sat 29 July

The 36th annual Summer School offers another attractive programme with an international flavour of in-person events including readings, talks, workshops, discussions and evening shows, featuring well-known writers, esteemed speakers and highly acclaimed performers from throughout Ireland, the UK and beyond. There is something on offer for everyone at JHISS 2023, whether you come for an event or two, a full day or the week!

Professor Jon Tonge, Bobby McDomagh and Owen Reedy are among the speakers who will address this year’s theme, ‘The State We’re In - Back to the Future’, which is inspired by the John Hewitt poem, An Irishman In Coventry:

A full year since I took this eager city, the tolerance that laced its blatant roar... ...as image of the state hope argued for...

Acclaimed prose writers who will read from their recently published work in the everpopular In Conversation Lunchtime series
