My ultimate goal is to pursue a Master’s Degree in Public Health and Health Promotion (MPH). I believe that pursuing an MPH at Swansea University will increase the knowledge and insight essential for changing and influencing health policy at all levels. I have already completed my undergraduate study in Health and Social Care in Swansea. This indicates that I have the background knowledge necessary to pursue a career in public health. My healthcare background is one of the compelling factors to apply to this program. For instance, during my undergraduate study, I participated in community health promotion activities in both community and hospital settings. These tasks increased my knowledge and desire to participate in public health initiatives, policy development, health promotion, and disease prevention Since I am interested in pursuing a career in public health, I believe the MPH will propel my chances of succeeding. Qualifying with a master’s in public health degree opens up career development opportunities and further study in different disciplines, including policy, research, education and management. I believe the MPH program at Swansea provides a solid base for career progression besides improving the skills necessary to address health issues affecting the people. Certainly, a Master’s degree in public health increases one’s ability to look into public health's societal picture. Importantly, the degree increases the competitive advantage of the nurse in public health research-oriented jobs. According to Santella (2019), a nurse with an MPH has numerous career options in healthcare and beyond. For instance, the nurse is eligible for several public health careers, including a medical journalist, policy analyst, environmental health inspectors, healthcare administrators, public health planners, and biostatisticians. As denoted by Santella

(2019), with MPH, the nurse can also work in the public sector by providing direct healthcare services or participate in policy development. The MPH program at Swansea comprises several modules that increase nurses' knowledge of various public health issues. These modules provide a chance to study major theoretical and philosophical perspectives, historical circumstances, current developments, and future public health directions. These modules also help hone various nursing skills besides giving the nurse valuable knowledge in real-life implementation of nursing interventions and application of nursing theory. For instance, the public health evidence and epidemiology module improve the nurse’s skills to participate in surveillance and other community health-based activities. Santella (2019) noted that these skills are essential for identifying community health hazards and disease prevention and infection control practices. Another module is the management and leadership for public health practice, which helps sharpen the nurse's leadership skills. The program offers a base for intensive leadership training, which begins on the first day to the end of the program. I am particularly interested in studying at Swansea University due to the Foundation in Research module that provides a strong base to enhance the nurse's research skills. The integration of a research oriented module into the program indicates that students benefit from a diverse teaching and research environment. The research topics of the module match my areas of interest for future research. These areas include public health policy, healthcare access, and healthcare data. This module also grants one the opportunity to participate in different public health research tasks. Doubtlessly, extensive research activities equip nurses with the skills necessary to interpret and report complex public health data. These skills are applicable at different levels including at the hospital and the community.

Other interesting modules in the MPH program are public health ethics, public health practice, and health protection. The public health ethics module equips nurses with the knowledge necessary to comply with the established ethical principles and practice standards. Importantly, the course enables the nurse to participate in public health policy development. These policies are developed in line with public health ethics. Although a Master’s Program in Public Health is physically and mentally demanding, I am psychologically prepared to take up the challenge. I have witnessed how nursing professionals apply unparalleled knowledge, skills, and ethics to resolve public health issues. I am therefore interested in taking up a course that will improve my decision-making skills to transform society.
