1 Top Management Skills Topic 1 According to Neil Hoechlin (2018), when an employee makes a mistake in the workplace, the manager is supposed to carry the responsibility for the said mistake. Furthermore, when a manager is faced with the challenge of dealing with an insubordinate employee, then the insubordination in question goes to show that the manager lacks the necessary management skills that would not allow such a situation to occur in the workplace. Therefore, according to Hoechlin (2018), there are three main management skills that any individual in a leadership position ought to possess. These are leadership skills, project management skills, and conflict management skills.

2 On the other hand, authors like Tatham, Wu, Kovács, and & Butcher (2017) argue that the most important skills that managers ought to have are those that not only allow the creation of a smooth working environment, but also allow the organization in question to prosper. Tatham et al. (2017) maintain that the top management skills to have are people management, negotiation, leadership, change management, customer and supplier relationship management, and people management. Topic 2 From a review of the literature, one could argue that the most important management skills are leadership skills, people management skills, project management skills, conflict management skills, and negotiation skills. As Hoechlin (2018) argues in his text, leadership is the skill that determines the extent to which an individual in a managerial position will have the capacity to steer a team in the right direction. Without having a sense of how to lead a team, it may be difficult for an individual to assert the required authority to inspire people to carry out their responsibilities. Furthermore, the manager may be unable to have the total obedience and respect of the employees without strong leadership skills. People management is an important skill to have because it entails understanding different personalities and how they operate in the work place. Knowing how best people work with each other will be important in making sure that they perform at their best in the workplace. Project management means that a manager understands how to see a project through from the beginning to the end. Without proper project management skills, a manager will not be able to ensure that an organization’s projects are seen to fruition (Tatham et al., 2017). In light of the fact that conflict in any organization is inevitable, having conflict management skills ensures that company time and resources are not wasted in managing disputes. Finally, negotiation is an important skillset for a manager because it will allow them to know how to enter into discussions with different parties to get the best deal possible for the organization.


3 Topic 3 The current business environment places a significant amount of reliance on data analytics. For this reason, Carillo, Galy, Guthrie, and Vanhems (2019) argue that, in future, one of the most critical management skills for managers will be data-driven decision-making. According to these authors, there is a general need to develop positive attitudes towards business analytics. In their view, this shift in attitude will allow the transformation of business and organizations into entities that are data-driven. Additionally, in having management training institutions impart this digital literacy to their students, the institutions will prepare them to become better future managers. It is worth noting that data-driven decision-making is already happening, though at a smaller scale than the one envisioned by Carillo et al. (2019). Therefore, in order to keep up with the demands of the future while also tapping into the opportunities that exist in the present, it will be crucial to equip future managers with data analysis skills.
