2022 bar exam February 22-23, July 26-27 The Oregon Bar Exam is a 2-day Uniform Bar Exam (UBE). Day 1 Six 30-minute Multistate Essay Exam questions (MEE in the a.m.) and two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test questions (MPT in the p.m.). Day 2 Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam (100 questions in the a.m., 100 questions in the p.m.).

Subjects tested MBE subjects Constitutional Law, Contracts/Sales, Criminal Law/ Procedure, Evidence, Federal Civil Procedure, Real Property, Torts MEE essay subjects Business Associations (Agency and Partnership; Corporations and Limited Liability Companies), Conflict of Laws, Family Law, Trusts and Estates (Decedents’ Estates; Trusts and Future Interests), Article 9 (Secured Transactions) of the Uniform Commercial Code plus all MBE subjects Multistate Performance Test “Closed universe” practical questions using instructions, factual data, cases, statutes and other reference material supplied by the examiner. MPRE A scaled score of 85 on the MPRE is required for admission within 36 months prior to applying for admission, or while application is pending.

Filing deadlines and fees Timely applications must be filed by November 15th for the February exam and April 15th for the July exam. Late application deadlines, with an additional fee, are December 15th for the February exam and May 15th for the July exam. • Bar exam application fee: $750 • Late filing fee: $350 • UBE score transfer: $750 • Admission on motion or house counsel: $1,175 • Investigation fee: $425* *Applies to attorneys who have previously been admitted, or have a pending application, to the practice of law in any other jurisdiction.

Scoring The MEE and MPT scores are scaled to the MBE, with the MBE weighted 50%, the MEE 30% and the MPT 20%. A total scaled score of 274 or higher is required to pass.

Reciprocity Acceptance of MBE score Oregon does not accept an MBE score from an exam taken in another jurisdiction. Admission on motion A member in good standing of a reciprocating jurisdiction may be admitted on motion if applicant has engaged in active practice of law for five of the seven years preceding application. Additional requirements apply. Admission by UBE score transfer Applicants who have obtained a scaled score of at least 274 on a Uniform Bar Exam taken in another jurisdiction within the preceding three years may apply for admission based on that score. Passing UBE scores earned more than three years, but no earlier than July 2017, may qualify if applicant has been actively engaged in the practice of law for at least two of the preceding three years. Additional requirements apply. Admission of house counsel An attorney employed by a business entity authorized to do business in Oregon, who has been admitted to practice law in another state, federal territory or commonwealth, or the District of Columbia, may be admitted to practice law by following the procedures set out in Rule 16.05.

2022 bar exam February 22-23, July 26-27 The Pennsylvania Bar Exam is a 2-day exam. Beginning July 2022, Pennsylvania will administer the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE). February 2022 Day 1 Two 45-minute Pennsylvania Essay Exam questions, plus one 90-minute Performance Test (PT) question in the AM, four 45-minute Pennsylvania Essay Exam questions in the PM.

Late filing is allowed with increasing fees. Late application deadlines for the February exam are November 15th, November 30th and the final deadline is December 15th. Late application deadlines for the July exam are April 30th, May 15th, and the final deadline is May 30th. Bar Exam Application Fees: • Timely filing fee: $650 • First late filing fee: $800 • Second late filing fee: $1,100 • Final late filing fee: $1,500 Scoring February 2022: Applicants need a combined minimum scaled score of 272 or higher to pass the exam. The combined essay and PT scaled score count as 55% of the total score and the scaled MBE is 45% of the total.

July 2022: The Board of Law Examiners does not intend to change the passing score required for the bar exam once the UBE is adopted. Generally, for UBE jurisdictions, MEE and MPT scores are scaled to the MBE, with the MBE weighted 50%, the MEE 30% and the MPT 20%. The scores are combined to determine if the applicant has achieved a passing score.

If adopted, it would allow admission to the bar for applicants who have earned a passing UBE score from other jurisdictions no more than 30 months preceding application. Additional requirements will apply. If the amendment is adopted, the Board anticipates accepting applications the week after the July 2022 bar exam.
