Vol 19, Term One, Week Three, 10 February 2023

Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland,

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend, and that you got out in the sunshine and your properties began to dry out a little. The Waitangi weekend is the last holiday until Easter and this year Easter falls in the front of the April school holidays in 9 weeks of uninterrupted teaching of learning.

We do have at least one break, however, with the whole school Athletics Day occurring on 28 February.

Another key date is 24 February, which is the Parents and Friends Picnic. This will be the first time in 2 years we have run this extravaganza – with food trucks, bouncy castles, face painting, and lucky dips. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to have families get together, meet other school families and connect with our wonderful community. More details will follow.

On Tuesday next week, we are going to celebrate our scholars from 2022. Students will cross stage with outstanding results in Primary & Secondary Checkpoint, IGCSE, AS and the full A Level.

It is also an opportunity to recognize our top students who have been awarded Top in New Zealand Awards from Cambridge, too.

I am proud, to announce to the community that Cedric Siriwardana was awarded Top in New Zealand for AS Physics and Jessica Liu the Top in New Zealand for AS Mathematics.

Jessica was also Top AS Student in New Zealand, scoring the best across 4 AS subjects.

I wish to congratulate all our teaching staff from 2022 and, in particular Mr Graham Gottard for Physics and Mrs Natasha Lytkina for Mathematics.

On Thursday next week, we will be celebrating these successes at Eden Park, when Cambridge representatives arrive from Singapore to present awards.

Aspire. Succeed. Respect.

Nathan Villars Campus Principal ACG Sunderland

Value for next week is:

Thoughtfulness

Consideration for the needs of other people.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and hopefully this forecasted storm does not cause much damage or concern.

Stay Safe.
