The Gala Dinner night shall set the stage for what promises to be one of the most important awards in Kenya’s labor market. Hundreds of surveys shall be conducted in all major universities prior to the Gala Night during which will be the launch of the results for Kenya’s Graduate Employer of Choice! AIESEC KENYA PRESENTS THE GRADUATE EMPLOYER OF CHOICE SURVEY

AIESEC is the world’s largest student run organization, it is an international platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential to have a positive impact on society. By partnering with business and institutions of higher learning, AIESEC has over 60 years of experience in developing students into globally minded leaders. In Kenya the AIESEC network extends to over 12 universities: USIU, UON, DAYSTAR, JKUAT, BONDO, KCA, CUEA, KU, MOI, STRATHMORE, KABARAK, and EGERTON.

AIM OF THE SURVEY The Graduate Employer of Choice awards comes at a time when Kenya is in a trying moment with thousands of graduates pouring into the market every year .The gap between industries and graduates seems to be getting larger. This means that employers have not met their obligations or the expectations of hundreds of thousands of graduating student each year. With a Research and In- Association partner AIESEC KENYA will reward and recognize the most popular employers among recent university graduates and students among the universities and institutions of higher learning in Kenya. The survey aims to inspire top employers in the country to create a favorable work environment for fresh graduates. We will reward innovation and creativity in for all employer brands competing to recruit the strongest and qualified candidates For more information or any enquiry about the Graduate Employer of choice Awards and /or AIESEC contact achieng aringo +254726765634 or achieng.aringo@aiesec.net HOW WILL THE EMPLOYER OF CHOICE AWARDS 2012-2013 SURVEY BE CONDUCTED?

The survey will run from 15th December 2012 to January 15th 2013 in form of a paper survey that will consist of 15 questions and an online survey to include 15 questions as well In order to reach a high student population, the survey will go straight to the point of the employer of choice and the criteria applied when looking for employment A test survey was ran at the MAY 2012- CAREEER FAIR which took place at the KICC grounds from with 20 participating companies and over 16 universities and institutions of higher learning represented.

Career Fair benefits the student! Students all over Kenya mentioned that they received mentorship, created networks and got to understand Employer expectations. Procedures for attaining industrial attachment and employment Procedures of attaining industrial attachment and employment Other valuable learning include skills on time management and self presentation

WHO WILL OUT THE SURVEY? In May 2012 over 5000 students took part at the NATIONAL AIESEC CAREER FAIR which included a general survey was run to see popular employer brands in Kenya. 89% were undergraduate students 7 %percent were recent graduates 4% doctorate or Masters Program Students Business 12%, Accounting and finance 8% management 6% ,computer Science 6% and commerce 6% these were the dominant fields of studies as indicated by students in the 2012 career Fair

WHAT DO STUDENTS CONSIDER IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTES IN COMPANIES? An interesting question is what attributes students look for when they are seeking employment. Not only is it important for companies to know in order to attract top talent furthermore it gives students insights into what their peers are looking for when competing for jobs with them In our survey students were able to select 3 out of 14 given criteria

RECOMMENDATIONS 1. The survey unveiled that students prefer industries to work in but do not specifically point out to companies. In order to increase their visibility amongst their potential employees, companies need to engage themselves in activities around the universities around university of engage with student organizations such as AIESEC. 2. It emerges that most of the respondents are looking for job security. Companies displaying long term commitment to their employees publicly are likely to be the Employer of choice .At the same time the survey shows that graduates are more and more looking for room for personal growth and opportunity to take responsibility. Companies neglecting the thirst of the youth will find it difficult to attract and retain top talent. 3. Most students and graduates focus on well known brands when selecting their favorite employer, resulting in high number of applications for those companies and organizations. To increase their chances of finding employment, it is important to research well and also consider applying to those organizations that are relatively less known. Networking and out of the box thinking are important skills to finding a fulfilling position

WHO ARE THE TOP EMPLOYERS THAT STUDENTS WANT TO WORK FOR? The students were asked to indicate the 3 companies /organizations that they consider the best employer in their area of study. Although answers maybe based on perception, it can be assumed that a lot of the students respond according to their integration with the companies and organizations, recruitment programs ran at the universities and CAREER FAIRS worth mentioning is that a significant number of respondents mentioned Equity bank, Safaricom, Standard Charted Bank under their 3 employers of choice

NATIONAL SURVEY In the year 2012-2013 AIESEC KENYA will be running a national survey to seek employers, recent graduates and undergraduates on Employer Brands in Kenya. The categories for the awards will be based on this information. The AGECA Dinner will be held FRIDAY 8TH FEBUARY 2013
