ELECTRONIC AND NON-ELECTRONIC WAYS OF COMMUNICATION
I am going to outline the electronic and non-electronic methods that Nike uses in order to communicate business information, using examples for different types of audience. Firstly, I am going to start with the electronic methods that Nike use in order to pass information, to their employees (internally) or to their customers (externally). The first and most common electronic method that Is used not by Nike but from nearly every business globally is the World Wide Web (WWW). This method can be assessed to anyone around the world and it is used as a medium for communication to anyone. The specific target audience for this method are the ones that are able to access the internet, as WWW needs internet in order to operate. WWW holds a lot of information from around the world and it is related to the search engine named Google. This way it is easier for people to search for information through this method.
The second electronic method that I am going to outline is the use of Email. Email is a non-verbal electronic form of letter and it used by most of the world nowadays, from schools, to hotels, to work etc. Nike uses this method in order to update customers about any offers or to send out any updates in regard to their deliveries or purchases/refunds. This method is however a double edged as one person could receive the message that was sent as rude and the other person could view it as precise and factual. This is why it is not a very reliable method. Teens and young adults are targeted by emails in order to answer any Q&A by an organisation or become aware of any new releases of Nike. The third electronic method that is commonly used by numerous of organisations are Phone Calls. This is a rather more personal method than email and there is a smaller chance of misinterpretation to occur. This method provides you with a faster way to resolve any problems or refunds regarding Nike. This method can be towards an employee or a customer. It could be used as an external and internal method and it is a quick method than any other written communication as it is verbal, and Nike is able to communicate effectively on time. Another electronic method that Nike uses is SMS (Short Message Service). This type of method can be used creatively by businesses, for example, Nike does usual reminders of any deliveries that are about to arrive to the customer’s doorstep. Appointments can also be sent to customers before the actual date of the appointment. Another way that this method could be used for a brand such as Nike is for any type of promotional codes for specific customers. The target audience of this method are the people who have access to a phone most commonly or the ones who have subscribed to a
company that is based on SMS communication. This is a non-verbal communication. Video Conferencing is another electronic method of communication that is used from global organisations. This method allows Nike to communicate with other away from them. This method is it is able to save time and cost. than two businesses to get in mainly for business people that are based in different locations.
businesses that are far verbal communication and This method allows more touch and it is targeted
Fax is the last electronic method that I am going to outline. This method is used less frequently nowadays, but there are still some businesses that do use this method, Nike is not one of them. It is a scanned document that is sent through a SMS, telephone line or an email to a recipient. It is very beneficial if the person is in the possession of a hard copy such as a signed contract. Employees, customers or anyone with a fax is targeted and able to use this. I am now going to outline the non-electronic methods. These are ways of communicating through non-electronic sources such as; letters, invoice communication, face-to-face and memorandums. Face-to-face is the first non-electronic method that I am going to explain and outline. This is probably the most efficient form of communication between employees and customers. This method allows both members to express their demands and problems and respond back to each other. This method is used internally and externally, it is a verbal communication and by using this method, misinterpretation is unlikely to occur, as both members will be able to see each other’s body language and hear each other’s tone of voice. The target audience of this method are employees within the business, managers (meetings etc.) and customers in Nike retail stores etc. Invoice is the second non-electronic method that I am going to outline. It is a written communication and it is a document that lists the quantity of each item, the prices, service description and a contact address for the required payment. It is classified as a legal document which can be used as evidence of a missed payment or an incurred debt. The target audience of this method are usually the people who purchased the item (buyer). Nike uses this method through their retail stores and online. These documents are sent if the buyers have not paid the amount of money that is required. A Memorandum is an internal written communication (letter based) used within an organisation between departments. It is usually used to communicate policies and procedures within an organisation and it is often written from one to all perspective. The target audience of this method are employees within an organisation. Letter is another written, non-verbal and non-electronic communication method that is used frequently by banks, schools, hospitals etc. Letter is a high standard method of communication and it must be clear in order for the receiver to understand it and not misinterpreted it. I must have clear information, introduction, details and what is needed from the receiver to do. Letters can be forma
or informal, depending on the cause of the letter, they can be impartial or emotional and reasoned or strongly advising. The audience can be anyone as long as they have literacy skills in order to understand the letter. The last non-electronic method that I am going to outline is Publicity Material. This is a method that is purposed to share publicity material in order to communicate company information, product information and news with the customers/public. The organisation does not pay for this method to be carried out and has little control over how the media present it. The target audience of this method are the public and the people who follow the organisation.
