APEX in Safety conducted at Sanya Airport to Enhance Safety 5
A team of safety experts from Beijing, Dublin, Hong Kong, Incheon and ACI offices, conducted a comprehensive APEX in Safety review at Sanya Phoenix International Airport (SYX) on 23 to 27 October 2017. The peer review was conducted based on a checklist of questions extracted from ACI safety handbooks, and ICAO manuals and standards. It covers all key areas of airport safety, including airport infrastructure such as the runways, taxiways, markings and signs, Safety Management System and Rescue and Firefighting procedures etc. APEX in Safety, launched in 2012, is a free service to ACI members. The host airport, i.e. the airport where the review is conducted, is only responsible for the airline tickets and hotel accommodation of the review team members, plus other minor expenses on arranging the meetings. ACI recently also initiated a similar service in security, APEX in Security and has received enthusiastic responses since officially launched in October 2017. Interested and qualified employees of ACI member airports are also eligible to working as safety or security assessors in APEX missions. ACI takes this opportunity to thank again all the voluntary safety and security assessors who have participated in APEX missions in the last few years and invite others to join this international pool of safety and security experts. Almost 80 airports worldwide have asked ACI to conduct safety reviews. Have you used this membership benefit? If your airport is interested in hosting a safety or security review or sending assessors to APEX missions, please contact SL Wong at sl@aci-asiapac.aero.
