Feature Stories ACI Asia-Pacific Presented at ICAO Capacity Building Seminar on Low Emissions Aviation Measures ACI Asia-Pacific was invited to attend the ICAO Capacity Building Seminar on Low Emissions Aviation Measures. The seminar, hosted by Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji, was held in Nadi, Fiji on May 23-24, 2018. The Seminar attracted about 40 delegates from civil aviation authorities, climate change organizations, airlines and airports, including Fiji and Vanuatu. This seminar was funded by the ICAO United Nations Development Programme Global Environmental Finance (UNDP-GEF) Assistance Project “Transforming the Global Aviation Sector: Emissions Reductions from International Aviation”.
The Seminar covered the topics from ICAO’s State Action Plans, such as renewable energy at airports sustainable aviation fuels, support for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), financing Low Emissions Aviation Measures and Renewable Energy in the Pacific. ACI Asia-Pacific gave a presentation in the Renewable Energy at Airports Session introducing ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation and Green Airports Recognition programs, and shared about the resolution approved at the recent Regional Assembly, calling for airports’ support and adopt waste management and renewable energy.

ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment Committee is in Full Support of ACI APEX in Environment At the 37th Meeting of the ACI World Environment Standing Committee, which was held on June 21-22, 2018 in Oslo, Norway, the committee agreed on final drafts of the mission document and readied for the pilot in APEX in Environment at Quito International Airport in July 2018. At the meeting, ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment Committee REC representatives indicated the REC is in full support of APEX in Environment and the Regional Office has included the programme in its strategic plan.
April 2018: Passengers up 10% in Asia-Pacific and down -2% in Middle East Passenger traffic across Asia-Pacific airports recorded growth at +9.9% in April 2018 while a reduction of -2.4% was observed in the Middle East. India led the Asia-Pacific region delivering growth at 20.4%, sustained by robust domestic demand. The domestic sector reported growth exceeding 20% for the third consecutive month, at +23.8% in April. Top volume drivers for the month were: Delhi (DEL) +16.8%, Bangalore (BLR) +46.1% and Mumbai (BOM) +12.8%. (Note: the significant growth in Bangalore (BLR) was a result of reduced operations during partial runway closure in 2017). In China, both the domestic and international sectors delivered double-digit growth for the month, resulting in an overall gain of +11.8%, the country’s highest overall growth to-date in 2018. Top volume drivers for the month included: Beijing (PEK) +18%, Shanghai Pudong (PVG) +11.6%, and Guangzhou (CAN) +9.9%. (Note: the significant growth at PEK was a result of reduced operations in 2017 during closure of the main runway in 2017). Japan grew +7% for the month, the highest to-date in 2018 possibly benefiting from holiday travels around the cherry blossom and Easter season. Current month’s growth was primarily driven by volume increase at Tokyo Haneda (HND) +6.1%, the second busiest airport in the Asia-Pacific in terms of passenger traffic; followed by Osaka Kansai (KIX) +12.7% and Tokyo Narita (NRT) +5.3%. In the Middle East, passenger volume recorded an overall decline this month as traffic softened at the larger hubs. Traffic at Dubai (DXB) -0.1% was virtually flat compared to last year. The diplomatic crisis in Qatar continued to negatively impact Doha (DOH) at -18.2%. On the other hand, strong growth continued to be observed at Kuwait (KWI) +19.3% and Muscat (MCT) +9.7%. After a slow month in March 2018, air freight growth recovered in April 2018, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East grew at +4.2% and +2.6% respectively. Hong Kong continued to be the top freight hub delivering volume growth at +5% followed by Shanghai Pudong (PVG) +2.8% and Seoul Incheon (ICN) +0.1%.

ACI Asia-Pacific WBP Airport Tour is Now Full
Since its launch in 2011, the WBP Airport Tour has been a welcome platform that is mutually beneficial to both WBP and airport members. WBPs have been able to explore new business opportunities and airport members have been able to engage with potential service providers needed for development projects. As an annual highlight exclusive for WBP members in Asia-Pacific, we are pleased to announce the 2018 ACI Asia-Pacific WBP Airport Tour is now full. The group will visit three international airports in Southeast Asia – Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) in Malaysia, Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) in Thailand and Siem Reap International Airport (REP) in Cambodia on August 21-23, 2018. We would like to thank the host airports and our WBP members for their support and participation.

ACI Asia-Pacific Human Resources Excellence Recognition Program 2019 is Open for Application The ACI Asia-Pacific Human Resources Excellence Recognition Program (HRER) 2019 is now open for application. All airport members are welcome to take part in the program which acknowledges airports’ outstanding achievements in HR management in the region since its introduction in 2014. To participate in the program, airport members can submit paper demonstrating their recent HR efforts on the topic of “Change Management”. Submissions are welcome on or before November 23, 2018 (Friday) 12:00 noon Hong Kong Time (GMT +8). Welcoming New Staff Onboard
The Regional Office would like to thank Mr. Hidenori Fukuda, the secondee from Narita Airport, his two years of hard work in Hong Kong. The Regional Office is pleased to welcome Mr. Yoonhwan Ahn, the secondee from Incheon International Airport Corporation, who has commenced his two-year assignment with the Regional Office in July 2018. “I am very pleased and honored to have this great opportunity to work in one of the most influential organizations in aviation industry. I am confident that with the experiences I expect to gain in the upcoming two years at ACI Asia-Pacific, I will be able to make impressive progress in my abilities and expertise. This will be something of a great asset for my career in the airport industry and I am looking forward to having a productive time with members in Hong Kong office. During my time in Incheon Airport, I had a chance to serve several different roles. As a training manager, I developed and managed training courses for the airport staff, ranging from airport operations to safety and security. I was also involved in many of the events held by Incheon Airport as an event organizer, handling from small in-house events to bigger international conferences. With the experience and expertise I have, I would like to make distinct contributions to our team and at the same time build special relationship with all the great members here in ACI Asia-Pacific.” Yoonhwan is currently in the External Affairs team and can be reached at yoonhwan@aci-asiapac.aero.
