Feature Stories New Leadership Added to the Board at the ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly

New leadership was added to the Regional Board following the Regional Assembly on 3 April with three new Directors elected for a three-year term commencing in April:

Mr. Mohamed Yousif Al-Binfalah, Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Airport Company SPC

Mr. Futoshi Osada, Senior Executive Vice President of Narita International Airport Corporation

Mr. Ming-Teh Wang, Chairman of Taoyuan International Airport Corporation

Commenting on the elections, Patti Chau, Regional Director said, “I wish to congratulate all elected members of the Board. Together with our President, we look forward to working closely with our Board in strengthening ACI Asia-Pacific’s role in representing our members in the region and advocating members’ interests.” The Regional Board is a governing body which determines the overall development strategy of ACI Asia-Pacific. The Board is composed of 25 aviation business leaders from across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

February 2019: Passengers up 2.7% in Asia-Pacific and 2.5% in Middle East Passenger traffic across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East recorded moderate growth in February at +2.7% and +2.5% respectively. Read more on February traffic in the press release here.

ACI Developing Nations Assistance Seminar – A Good Start for 2019! In collaboration with ACI World and respective host airports, 2018 saw the successful delivery of five ACI Developing Nations Assistance (DNA) seminars in Asia-Pacific and achieved overwhelming participation from over 100 colleagues representing over 25 airport members. Looking forward, the Regional Office has further raised the bar by scheduling six DNA seminars in 2019 covering crucial topics for our airport members. First ACI DNA Seminar in 2019 Held in Hong Kong The first ACI DNA seminar of 2019 was held from 5 - 6 April in Hong Kong. The seminar, kindly hosted by Airport Authority Hong Kong, was held immediately following the 2019 ACI Asia-Pacific/ World Annual General Assembly, Conference & Exhibition (WAGA 2019).

Thirteen airport representatives from Cabo Verde, Cambodia, India, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, the Philippines, Tonga, and Uganda participated in the 2-day seminar to learn about Management on Airport Security. The seminar was delivered by Mr. Clive Howard, Senior Manager, Efficiency Unit & Operations Support of Aviation Security Company Limited. Topics covered included ICAO Annex 17, use of aviation security equipment and their maintenance, as well as the selection, training and certification of personnel.

ACI DNA Seminar on “Aerodrome Certification” – Calling for Registration The next DNA Seminar will be held on 10-12 June in Haikou, China, to be delivered in cooperation with HNA Airport Group Co. Ltd. The seminar will be on Aerodrome Certification and topics will include: • • • • •

Purpose, process and requirements to maintain Aerodrome Certification Summary of relevant ICAO documents and their purpose in Aerodrome Certification How the audit process enhances an airport’s safety management system Importance of safety compliance Description of different auditing tools and techniques

In order to ensure an effective and interactive experience, the number of participants is limited to two persons per eligible airport member. Registrations will be considered on a first-come-first-served basis. Please complete the online registration form by 20 May 2019 to register for the seminar. Mark Your Calendar for upcoming ACI Events in 2019!

We are now calling for support and participation to the two other ACI Asia-Pacific co-organized events this year.

The Trinity Forum, the world’s most influential airport commercial revenues conference, will be held in Doha in 2019, the first time the event has ever been hosted in Qatar. The Forum, a joint venture between The Moodie Davitt Report, ACI World and ACI Asia-Pacific, will be hosted by Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar Airways and Qatar Duty Free (QDF) and will take place in Doha on 30-31 October 2019. This is also the first time in the event’s 16-year history that an airline has joined the hosting line-up. For further information about the event, please visit the event website here.
