ACI presented at the ICAO DGCA-APAC/54 held in Mongolia, 7 to 11 August 2017 ACI attended the 54th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation, Asia and Pacific Region held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from 7-11 August 2017. ACI Director General, Ms. Angela Gittens was invited to join a Panel discussion moderated by Dr. Fang Liu, Secretary General of ICAO amongst other distinguished industry leaders namely Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, President of the ICAO Council, Mr. Michael P. Huerta, Administrator of Federal Aviation Administration, Mr. Bambang Susantono, Vice 3


President (Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development), Asian Development Bank and Ms. Aireen Omar, CEO Air Asia. Ms. Gittens shared her views on the topic “Asia Pacific at the cross roads: Breaking Barriers and Navigating the Future” and highlighted the challenge to airports on capacity constraint and the notion of Airport Networks.

The DGCA conference is the annual summit of civil aviation regulators of the 38 States of the Asia-Pacific Region and ACI attended to represent airports’ interests together with other industry partners such as IATA, CANSO, IFALPA, IBAC etc. The summit discussed the five ICAO strategic objectives: safety, security & facilitation, navigation capacity efficiency, environmental protection and air transport economics. ACI Regional Office was also invited to make two presentations on “SMART SECURITY: An IATA and ACI initiative to enhance security, facilitation and operational efficiency” and “ACI’s Capacity Building Efforts in Security” during the conference.

ACI Asia-Pacific Presented at Reducing Opportunities for Unlawful Transport of Endangered Spies (ROUTES) Round Table Meeting

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Reducing Opportunities for Unlawful Transport of Endangered Species (ROUTES) round table meeting took place in Bangkok on 2-3 August, 2017. Representatives from Malaysia, Qatar, Kenya, Thai Airways and NGOs on wildlife trafficking attended the meeting. The meeting aimed to: •

Identify the key roles within the aviation industry that are most commonly exposed to wildlife crime; 4

Create specific competency criteria for these roles; Gain a better understanding on how various companies and agencies within the industry train their staff and measure competency and knowledge retention; and Establish guidelines for ROUTES to best capture key validation data from training efforts within the industry.

ACI Asia-Pacific was invited to present at the meeting on ACI’s initiative in combatting Wildlife Trafficking and some examples implemented at Hong Kong International Airport. The ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Office is pleased to welcome Ms. Cindy Chee, the new Manager - Events, who joined us in August! Cindy will be responsible for all events related matters and also the World Business Partners Programme. Cindy has gained over 10 years of extensive experience from events conceptualization to planning and operation execution through her working experience with the Woolmark Company, an Australian not-for-profit company organizing events and trainings for the association and Messe Frankfurt, a German trade exhibition and conference organizer. Cindy has obtained a bachelor degree majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management specializing on meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) in Canada.
