ACI Asia-Pacific Announces Results of the Young Executive of the Year 2017 and Green Airports Recognition 2017
ACI Asia-Pacific is pleased to announce that Ms. Surabhi Rana of Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd is named as the ACI Asia-Pacific Young Executive of the Year 2017. A total of sixteen submissions were received this year and the papers were reviewed by a Panel of Judges (the Panel) chaired by Mr. Emmanuel Menanteau, Co-CEO of Kansai Airports and Secretary Treasurer of ACI AsiaPacific. 3
The Panel concluded that the submission of Ms. Surabhi Rana, on the topic Challenges and Opportunities for Small and Emerging Airports in the 21st Century, offered practical solutions that may be considered by small and emerging airports in order to remain viable and competitive. Mrs. Patti Chau, Regional Director, ACI Asia-Pacific said, “I would like to congratulate Ms. Surabhi Rana of Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd for her outstanding work on the paper Challenges and Opportunities for Small and Emerging Airports in the 21st Century. Her research covered all aspects of small and emerging airports, in particular the challenges they face. I am proud that we have many young talents in our region as we received very high standard research papers this year. I wish to congratulate all other participants as well for demonstrating their pragmatic ideas in tackling our industry challenges through their research papers.” The Panel also unanimously decided to give Honorable Mentions to Ms. Maddalena Angelica Gabrielli of Brisbane Airport Corporation PTY Limited and Ms. Sandy Kwan of Airport Authority Hong Kong for their papers on Achieving Sustainability for Airports in Asia-Pacific. Their submissions were very comprehensive and demonstrated thorough understanding on the topic. ACI Asia-Pacific Young Executive of the Year Award is a research paper competition, introduced in 2009, to encourage and promote innovative ideas and solutions to challenges facing the aviation industry. The outstanding young talent who contributes the best research paper on a selected topic will be honored as the ACI Asia-Pacific Young Executive of the Year. This year’s candidates were required to submit research papers on one of the topics below:
Achieving Sustainability for Airports in Asia-Pacific Challenges and Opportunities for Small & Emerging Airports in the 21st Century
ACI Asia-Pacific is pleased to announce results of the ACI Asia-Pacific Green Airports Recognition 2017. Airports large and small demonstrate their commitment in achieving outstanding accomplishments in environmental projects. A total of 16 submissions were received this year. The Panel of Judges concluded that recognition will be given to the following airports: Airports with 25 million passengers per annum and above: Platinum – Kuala Lumpur International Airport Gold – Indira Gandhi International Airport Silver – Hong Kong International Airport Airports with less than 25 million passengers per annum: Platinum – Darwin International Airport Gold – Adelaide Airport Silver – Queen Alia International Airport 4
Mrs. Patti Chau, ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Director said, “I wish to congratulate not only the recognized airports, but all the participated airports because their partaking helps exemplify the spirit of this recognition which is to promote best practices sharing among airports. I would also like to thank the judges for their valuable time and support.” The Green Airports Recognition was established by ACI Asia-Pacific with the support of ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment Committee. The Recognition’s objective is to promote environmental best practices to minimize aviation’s impact on the environment and to recognize ACI Asia-Pacific airport members who have outstanding accomplishments in their environmental projects. Understanding that different airports have different environmental priorities, each year, a specific environmental aspect will be chosen as the recognition theme. This year’s theme is Energy Management. The submissions were reviewed by the following judges:

Mr. Christopher Surgenor, Editor/Publisher, GreenAir Online said, “The submissions were all of a particularly high standard and it is heartening that energy management and carbon reduction programmes are in place not only at the larger airports but also at smaller ones. It was interesting to see representation from throughout Asia-Pacific and Middle East and the variety of solutions being implemented. It’s a great start for the Green Airports Recognition.” The award presentation ceremonies will be held on April 11, 2017 at the ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly in Doha, Qatar. ACI Developing Nations Airport Assistance (DNA) Seminar in Doha – Calling for Registration The ACI-DNA Assistance Programme (ACI-DNA) is organizing a training seminar with Hamad International Airport. This by-invitation-only seminar entitled “Airport Air Service Development” will be held in Doha, Qatar from April 910, 2017. The seminar is intended for airport leaders in the areas of airport economics and will be conducted in English. Content will include: • • • • •
Airport/airline business relations; Identifying the market potential for the airport’s location; Overall airport marketing strategy to grow airline and non-aeronautical revenues; Marketing support and financial incentives for route development; Bilateral negotiations to create successful environment for airline operations. 5
In order to ensure an effective and interactive training, the number of participants is limited to two persons per ACI member. Only the first 25 registrations received will be taken into consideration, on a first come, first served basis. The participation in the seminar is complimentary; the costs of accommodation at the Doha Marriott Hotel will be met by the ACI-DNA Programme from the evening of April 8 to noon April 10 (2 nights). Staff Movement Ms. Yulim Lee, Manager, Events of the ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Office has resigned, on her own accord, with effect from February 27, 2017. Since joining the Regional Office in 2012, Yulim has been an integral part of ACI Asia-Pacific and has successfully organised several major events and made significant developments in the World Business Partners programme. The Regional Office would like to thank Yulim for all her contributions and wish her every success in her future endeavours.
