ACI Presented at Inter-Airport Environmental Forum

Regional Director Patti Chau

ACI Asia-Pacific recently participated in the Inter-Airport Environmental Forum. It was held on August 13 and 14 and hosted by Christchurch International Airport Limited at Christchurch International Airport in New Zealand. The forum gathered 14 airport environmental managers and executives working across Australia and New Zealand to discuss various topics, ranging from contaminated land issues to airport sustainability incentives. At the forum, Ken Lau, Manager, Technical and Industry Affairs made a presentation to share with participants updates about ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment Committee and other ACI initiatives on Environment, such as Airport Carbon and Emissions Reporting Tool ACERT, Airport Carbon Accreditation and ACI Asia-Pacific Environmental Survey (Pilot version). The delegates discussed contamination issues around airports, waste management, resource efficiency and energy reduction and toured the Christchurch Airport campus, including the new terminal and its energy centre, the International Antarctic Centre and the property developments around the campus. The next meeting for this group is scheduled for November 2016 in Hobart.

Countdown to Airport Safety Week 2015 Begins

Last month we announced ACI Asia-Pacific’s partnership with Australian Airport Association (AAA) on Airport Safety Week. This is an airport operational and occupational safety campaign successfully launched in Australia last year. This year ACI is working with AAA to give all airports in Asia-Pacific the opportunity to participate in the event. The campaign will be held in the week from 26 to 30 October 2015. It consists of a series of promotional activities but the attention of ACI members is particularly drawn to the following: • •

An online safety quiz to test your knowledge on airport safety A contest in sharing of airport operational safety best practices

Participants scoring the highest marks in the quiz or suggesting the most useful operational safety best practice will be given awards at the 11th ACI AsiaPacific Regional Assembly in Gold Coast Australia next April. Who is Eligible? All full time employees of ACI Asia-Pacific regular airport members are eligible

to participate. How to Take Part? Click the tab on “Register for Airport Safety Week at www.airportsafetyweek.com. Enter your contact details and you will receive the quiz, safety promotional materials and electronic safety newsletters during the safety week from 26 to 30 October 2015. At the end of the quiz, you will be asked to take part in the contest mentioned above and suggest an airport operational safety best practice that has been successfully implemented and proved useful at your airport. A panel will decide which will be the winning best practices of the year. Have you signed up? Already more than 80 airports have! If you have not, we urge you to do so as soon as possible. ACI believes by participating in this educative campaign to promote safety, everybody will be a winner! For enquiries, please contact SL Wong, Senior Manager - Technical & Industry Affairs at sl@aci-asiapac.aero. >> Back to Top
