New Year Message – ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Director

Feature World Business Partners Members Glidepath

Happy New Year to you all! Thank you for your support in making 2014 another productive year for ACI Asia-Pacific. It has been an eventful year for the region and one also of significant achievement. This past year has been a time of growth as reflected in our growing membership in both the airport and World Business Partners (WBP) members; our relationships with aviation organizations, such as ICAO and IATA are further strengthened and the increased support from members and industry partners on ACI programmes.

ACI Asia-Pacific Official Publication

In 2014 we welcomed 6 new airport members and 10 WBPs. We now represent 99 members operating 579 airports from 47 countries and 70 WBPs. ACI programmes have made significant progress during the year. Airport Carbon Accreditation is now a truly global programme, available to airport members in all ACI regions. Ten airports in Asia-Pacific became newly accredited in Airport Carbon Accreditation, bringing the total number of accredited airports in the ACI Asia-Pacific region to 22. Following a series of hard lobbying work, we have finally gained the support from ICAO on the APEX in Safety Programme. Three safety reviews were completed in 2014 in Abu Dhabi, Haikou and Medina. Looking ahead, I am pleased to announce that we are celebrating our 10th anniversary of the unification of Asia and Pacific regions of ACI this year. In conjunction with the 10th Annual Assembly meeting, the celebrations will take place at the Dead Sea, Jordan from 27-29 April 2015. The event will host an exhibition showcasing our region’s achievements over the past 10 years. Many former members of the ACI Asia and ACI Pacific Board will join us in Jordan to recognize and celebrate this great milestone. You are cordially invited to join us at this memorable event. 2015 also marks the commencement of the Regional Office’s 2015-2017 workplan, which has been approved at the last Board meeting held in October 2014. We will strengthen our services to members and I look forward to your continual support in 2015 so that together, we can become stronger as the voice of the Asia-Pacific Airports! I wish you all a very prosperous 2015! Patti Chau Regional Director

Technical Brief HKIA Participated in the Airport Carbon Accreditation Stakeholder Engagement Workshop held in Brussels On December 2, 2014, a special Stakeholder Engagement Workshop took place at the ACI EUROPE office in Brussels, Belgium. Many accredited airports in Airport Carbon Accreditation exchanged ideas and best practice on initiatives, incentives and campaigns to get stakeholders on the airport site engaged in lowering their carbon emissions.

Second Vice President Kerrie Mather

From Asia-Pacific, Ms. Sophia Lau, Manager, Environment of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) shared HKIA’s experience in the session “Working with key business partners to implement airport policy objectives”.

Second Vice President PS Nair

HKIA had successfully engaged airport business partners since 2008 when they started the airport wide carbon audit. Together with their business partners in 2010, they pledged to reduce airport wide carbon emissions intensity by 25%.

Since then they have arranged more than 30 workshops, trainings and sharing sessions for the airport community and achieved both intensity and absolute carbon reductions to become accredited at Level 3, optimization of Airport Carbon Accreditation.
