Asia-Pacific Airports grew 7%, Middle Eastern Airports grew 10.4% in November 2015
Second Vice President
PS Nair During November 2015, passenger traffic grew by +7% in the Asia-Pacific and +10.4% in the Middle East. Overall, passenger traffic remained solid in the Asia-Pacific for the month of November, primarily driven by strong economic growth in India which boosted domestic traffic. Majority of the reporting airports recorded double-digit growth led by New Delhi (DEL) +21.9%, Mumbai (BOM) +18.3% and Bangalore (BLR) +24.3%. This is partially offset by the slowdown in Chinese economy with leading airports such as Beijing (PEK) -1.6% and Guangzhou (CAN) -1.8% reporting slight decrease from last year. Shanghai Pudong (PVG) continued to lead passenger traffic growth among Chinese airports generating a healthy growth of +9%. Growth in the Middle East sustained at +10.4%1 for the month, Dubai (DXB) +8.1% and Abu Dhabi (AUH) +15.8% continued to generate sizable growth as a result of system expansion.
Secretary Treasurer Emmanuel Menanteau
Air freight volumes remained weak, reflecting the slowdown of the Chinese economy and uncertainty in the commodity exporting countries. In November 2015, freight volumes in the Asia-Pacific reported a decline of -1.5% and the Middle East was essentially flat at -0.5%. Among the top ten freight hubs in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, six out of the top ten recorded decline in freight volume with the exception of Dubai (DXB) +3.8%, Beijing (PEK) +2.8%, Singapore (SIN) +2.6%, and Guangzhou (CAN) +4.7%. The Small Airports Program - Financial Assistance for Training enables staff from airports which are relatively smaller in size with limited budget to attend these training courses.
