Immediate Past President Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid
Asia-Pacific airports generated around +8% passenger traffic growth both for the month of December 2015 and for the year. For the Middle East, passenger traffic grew by +12% for the month and +11.3% for the year. In China, passenger traffic growth was led by Shanghai Pudong (PVG) +16.3% for the year while Beijing (PEK) was the busiest airport serving close to 90 million passengers in 2015. Despite the slowdown in Chinese economy, most airports in China reported positive results for the year. Supported by solid economic growth in India, many Indian airports posted significant increase for the year led by Delhi (DEL) +15.7%, Mumbai (BOM) +16.1%, Bangalore (BLR) +25.2%, and Hyderabad (HYD) +22%. Among all airports in the region, Bangkok Don Mueang (DMK) delivered the highest growth rate +40.6% for the year driven by both strong domestic and international travels. Other major airports in the region generated sizeable growth include Kansai (KIX) +19.9% and Busan (PUS) +19.6%. The Middle East led all other regions in passenger traffic growth rates, with major hubs all reported double digit growth for the year: Dubai (DXB) +10.7%, Doha (DOH) +17.1%, and Abu Dhabi (AUH) +17.3%. Regarding freight volumes, Asia-Pacific reported a marginal increase of +0.7% in December 2015 and +1.5% growth for the year, continue to reflect the downward pressure from weakening of trade activities, as experienced in Hong Kong (HKG) +0.1%,
Regional Director Patti Chau
Incheon (ICN) +0.6% and Narita (NRT) -0.6%. In the Middle East, freight traffic continued to benefit from network expansion of carriers posting strong growth of +9.1% in December 2015 and +10.7% for the year. Doha (DOH) generated an impressive growth of +47.3% for the year driven by added frequencies and new destinations to the existing network, as well as new cargo airlines commencing operations at the airport in 2015. Other airports that generated double digit growth for the year include Dubai World Central (DWC) +13%. For further details, please read full press release here. >> Back to Top

ACI Asia-Pacific in ICAO Mission to Kuwait ACI Asia-Pacific participated in an ICAO mission to help improve the safety landings and take-offs of aircraft at Kuwait International Airport.
ACI Events
At the invitation of Directorate General Civil Aviation of Kuwait, a “Runway Safety Go Team” of six experts from ICAO, IATA, ACI, UAE and Egypt worked from February 15 – 18 onsite with the airport, national airlines, air traffic control and the ground handlers there to find out ways to further improve runway safety. The Go Team shared best practices in runway safety with their Kuwaiti counterparts, some 50 persons in total. One of the key topics was the establishment and running of the Runway Safety Team, a local forum, usually chaired by the airport operator, of all stakeholders, including airlines, ATC, and pilots to identify hazards that may potentially lead to accidents and find solutions before these happen. Other areas of best practices discussed were wildlife hazard management, prevention of runway incursions and safety management system. The team also made a visit to the air traffic control tower and the airfield of Kuwait International Airport. Observations of potential hazards were shared with DGCA Kuwait on the last day of the mission.

ACI Announces 2015 Airport Service Quality Award Winners
ACI Asia-Pacific Official Publication
ACI announced the winners of the 2015 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards. The world’s premier passenger service benchmarking programme for airports, ASQ delivered over 550,000 in-depth passenger surveys at over 300 airports across more than 80 countries worldwide last year. The 2015 results represent the world’s best in class airports where improving the customer experience is concerned — appraised by passengers while they are traveling and the experience is fresh in their minds. “Airports’ increasing concentration on ensuring a stellar passenger experience is part of a larger trend,” noted Angela Gittens, Director General, ACI World. “Airports have evolved into complex, customer-focused businesses in their own right that in many cases are in competition with each other for passenger traffic. From duty free and restaurants to ambience, cleanliness, courtesy of staff, amenities, efficiency and more, air travellers are expecting big things from the airports through which they travel. More than anything, ASQ is a way for participants to measure the extent to which they deliver on these expectations.” Please visit ASQ website to view the list of the winning airports of 2015. The Awards Ceremony will take place at the Gala Dinner of the 11th ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, Conference & Exhibition on April 19, 2016 in Gold Coast, Australia. >> Back to Top
