New Year’s Message –Regional Director
Partners Members
Happy New Year to you all! Thank you for your support in making 2015 another productive year for ACI Asia-Pacific. 2015 has been particularly meaningful for ACI Asia-Pacific as we celebrated the tenth anniversary of the creation of ACI Asia-Pacific following the unification of ACI’s former Asia and Pacific regions. To mark the occasion, a photo exhibition was organized at last year’s Regional Assembly in Jordan where some of the significant milestones and moments over the last ten years were showcased. It was the perfect occasion for us to review the past and celebrate our journey.

We now represent 100 members operating 573 airports from 47 countries and 77 World Business Partners. Through our active participation, we maintained as the key industry partner of ICAO at the regional level and continued to represent members’ interests. We are gradually stepping up our influence in the region by forming strategic partnerships and joint projects with a number of regional industry organizations e.g. the joint safety culture survey with Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) and Arab Air Carriers' Organization (AACO). We have also partnered with Australian Airports Association (AAA) in the "Airport Safety Week 2015” with the objective to raise safety awareness across the region. China Civil Airports Association (CCAA) also inked a partnership with the region which will allow both associations to pursue our mutual goals of achieving airport excellence for our members in the region. We have also established regular meetings with the regional representatives of Australia’s Office of Transport Security. We believe these partnerships will allow ACI Asia-Pacific to strengthen our influence in the region. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is an official political and economic organization of ten Southeast Asian Countries with growing influence in the region. In March, ACI Asia-Pacific was invited to attend the ASEAN Aviation Summit held in Malaysia and we took the opportunity to promote ACI initiatives including Airport Carbon Accreditation and Airport Carbon Emissions Reporting Tool with the aim to promote environmental awareness among the ASEAN airports. The year has been a milestone for ACI Asia-Pacific as we achieved a number of ‘first’ in 2015. The inaugural Regional Economics Committee meeting was held in April, working plan was also formulated and we are confident the committee will strengthen the support to members on airport economics matters. National Airports Corporation (NAC) at Papua New Guinea has become the first airport operator in the world to take part in ACI APEX in Airport Business program, a new program which aims to promote airport financial viability and sharing of business and financial best practices among airports around the world. Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme has become a global programme in 2015 and has continued to gain recognition across the world, we are particularly proud to have UNFCCC supporting the programme as a partnership was formed in December. At ICAO, we urged States to include Airport Carbon Accreditation into their next update of State Action Plans and we are pleased to have a total of 25

airports in Asia-Pacific earned the Airport Carbon Accredited status in 2015. Members’ engagement remains our top priority as we continued with our outreach program, I’ve visited a number of regulators in the region and earned their support. We wish to extend our sincerest appreciation to our members and partners for their support throughout this special year. As our membership continues to rise and the influence of our organisation in the region strengthened, we see the need to revamp our team in the Regional Office in order to meet our members’ expectations and better reflect the increased provision of services. I am pleased to announce that with effect from January 18, 2016, Ms. Ada Tse, formerly Senior Manager, External Affairs and Security will be appointed as Deputy Regional Director. I look forward to your continual support in 2016 so that together, we can become stronger as the voice of the Asia-Pacific Airports!

Environmental Survey – Call for your participation ACI Asia-Pacific is inviting member airports to take part in the ACI Asia-Pacific Environmental Survey 2015, the first-of-its-kind initiative in the region. The Survey was conducted as a pilot project in 2014 by ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment Committee (REC) with the objective to develop a database of ongoing environmental initiatives and policies among airports in Asia-Pacific region. The pilot Survey attracted the participation from 18 airports representing about 25% of airport traffic in the region. With much positive feedback received on the preliminary Survey report, ACI Asia-Pacific will now expand the survey to all member airports in order to make it a more complete and representative source of environmental indicators.
ACI Asia-Pacific Official Publication
Mike Kilburn, Senior Manager, Environment at Airport Authority Hong Kong and the Chair of REC, whose team took a lead in proposing and drafting the Survey, said, “The Survey will help airport environmental managers to track the current industry trends and best practices in Asia Pacific airports, and to identify and communicate to senior management new opportunities to improve their environmental performance.” The Survey has very comprehensive coverage and requires the participants to answer various questions covering 10 core environmental aspects such as Noise, Air Quality, Waste, Energy, Carbon, etc. After completing the survey, participated airports will receive a report of their own performance against the aggregated results of all participating airports. In order to protect confidentiality, airports will not have access to the data of other participating airports.
ACI Events
All ACI Asia-Pacific member airports have already received an email invitation to the Survey and are strongly encouraged to participate to benefit from this unique initiative by January 31, 2016. • ACI Regional Safety Committee Updates Driver Training Handbook One of the first tasks in the work plan of the ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Operational Safety Committee when it was established in 2008 was to draft a new handbook on airside vehicle licensing and driver training given accidents involving vehicles on the airside were a major safety concern for airports. After numerous meetings, discussions, rewriting and editing, the first edition was finally published in January 2011. In 2015, the Committee reviewed and updated the handbook which is now available for download here (login required). Today ground accidents remain one of the key safety issues at airports. ACI AsiaPacific hopes this handbook helps airports train airside drivers and reduce accidents involving vehicles and ground equipment. ACI Asia-Pacific would like to thank all the committee members for their hard work in updating the handbook, especially Airport Authority Hong Kong, Incheon International Airport Corporation, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad and Narita International Airport Corporation for contributing photos and illustrations. For enquiries, please contact SL Wong at sl@aci-asiapac.aero. • The latest edition of ACI Asia-Pacific HR Bulletin and Technical Bulletin is now available online:
