DDD Is Getting Noticed!

New Website!!!

Did ya’ know, DDD and our members get mentioned in local media and social network sites almost weekly!! This past year DDD was mentioned in all the following:

The best news of all...Bill Gardner’s team at Gardner Design is currently working on a new website for Douglas Design District! Our site has never been up to snuff, but the new site will finally capture the features and functions originally intended. The look of the site will be totally re-vamped using the new logo and branding. Functionality will improve significantly for both the consumer and you. Plus there will be a new “members only” section where you can check calendars, review member benefits, see newsletters, and keep up to date on everything in the District.

Police Substation

Board Elections

Lisa Riley with East Front neighborhood and DDD Implementation Committee member, is working with DDD and the Wichita Police Department to establish a police substation near East High. Facilities and equipment for the substation were recently offered as a donation by Lyle Tanquary with Andrew’s Decorating Center. Unfortunately the space did not meet Police Department parking requirements. We are currently looking for a new location.

Wendy Mayes, DDD Co Vice-President and volunteer extraordinaire, was re-elected to a new 3 year term. Frank L. Carson IV, of Carson Bank was voted in as our newest board member. Frank will also serve as DDD Treasurer.

If you can help, or if you’d like more information contact Lisa Riley at: (316) 209-7959.

HUGE THANKS to Scott Nelson of Carson Bank. Much to our dismay, Scott decided not to run for another term. Thankfully, he will continue as chair of the Advocacy/Lobbying Committee, as well as serve on the new City of Wichita DDD Implementation Committee. Scott’s talents, humor, diplomacy, and “get ‘r done” attitude will be greatly missed on the board.

“I Bike Douglas” BIG SUCCESS! Douglas Design District, Wichita Downtown Development Corporation and Delano teamed up to sponsor “I Bike Douglas”. Over 300 bike riders (80% adult) participated in the May 22 event held at various locations up & down Douglas. Bikers were treated to maintenance clinics sponsored by Heartland Bicycles and Bicycle Xchange; OZ Bicycle Club held a vintage bike show; The Wichita Police Department conducted beginner and advanced safety clinics; bike tours highlighting art, architecture, and photography were a big hit; and of course to end the day a pub pedal to all the drinking establishments in the area. Thanks to Ann Keefer with WDDC for conceiving this great event!

Bikers Believe in Shopping Local Bikers were asked to fill out a survey and we discovered some interesting facts. 98% shop and support local business. 98% want to see the event expanded, and would come back for future events. 89% bike weekly.

“I Bike Douglas” is a great way to raise awareness and bring people to the Douglas Design District. We want to keep the momentum going so DDD will promote monthly Bikers Specials on the 4th Saturday of every month. On June 26, area eateries and bars will feature a Bikers Special of their choice. Beginning July 24, we’d like to expand this to include all area retailers. Someone will contact you soon to see if you’d like to participate. This monthly event will be promoted on the “I Bike Douglas” event Facebook, posted on the DDD website, emailed to all who attended the first event, and posted on various blogs and media sites like Naked City, Womens Focus, etc.
