The Products

The Project

Manufactured in 304 grade stainless steel

ACO Building Drainage played a key role in the refurbishment of the toilet facilities at the Eden Project, one of Cornwall’s top tourist attractions, supplying channel drainage for the visitor centre. The Eden Project features two large Biomes that house a large variety of plants from all over the world and welcomes around one million visitors each year. The Visitor Centre toilets are in constant use during the day and the refurbishment work – including the installation of new drainage had to be carried out at night to minimise disruption.

The Brief To provide contractor Cornwall Safety Flooring with a functional, easy to install and aesthetically pleasing channel drainage solution.

The Solution ACO Building Drainage specified 28.5 metres of Modular 125 Stainless Steel Linear Drainage System and Quadrato grating. Modular 125 is ACO Building Drainage’s most popular channel system. Manufactured in 304 grade stainless steel it is available in a wide range of lengths, depths and inverts, providing an off-the-shelf solution suitable for a wide variety of applications. CE marked and fully tested and classified to BS EN 1433 (Drainage Channels for Vehicular and Pedestrian Areas), it features a vee-bottomed profile channel for enhanced flow efficiency at low flow rates. Quadrato grating is fully compliant to EN 1253, is slip resistant for enhanced safety and can be supplied to meet a variety of load classes.

As the refurbishment work took place at night we needed to work

quickly to ensure that the floor was safe to use during opening hours. The products supplied by ACO Building Drainage were fast and simple to install, and ideally suited for use alongside the safety flooring we specified. The facilities previously had slot drainage, which was difficult to clean. However, we were able to weld the vinyl on the new safety flooring straight to the inlet channels on the ACO products to give a sealed system, meaning there is no dirt trap. The flooring and drainage is now more practical and much easier to clean.
