SuDS – Time to come clean?
SBWWI Seminar
Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems have never been as high on the water management agenda as they are now. So this SBWWI seminar is well timed to highlight the importance of SuDS in achieving an integrated approach to urban water management and challenges why they are still not being implemented as a matter of course.
Thursday 21 March 2013 Stareton Hall, Stoneleigh Park, CV8 2LZ Chaired by Alastair Moseley, J Murphy and Sons and Past President of CIWEM, this latest in a line of informative seminars run by SBWWI, will include presentations from SuDS experts drawn from Government, Water Companies, Local Authorities, Academia, Consultants and SuDS suppliers. This conference will show how effective SuDS can be in providing solutions to flooding for water companies, their importance in whole catchment planning for local water management and their potential for use as a local source of water for non-potable use to combat water scarcity in at-risk areas of the UK. The timing of this conference is significant in that the debate around the inertia in making SuDS “business as usual” in urban surface water management is really
gathering pace and this Conference aims to raise awareness and stimulate the take up of SuDS in urban drainage and water management planning. To set the scene our headline speaker will talk on Government’s policy approach to SuDS, before being followed by our panel of experts who will collectively show how SuDS are not simply a drainage philosophy but a key component of urban planning and water sensitive urban design. Confirmed speakers include Chris Preston, DEFRA; Brian Smith, Yorkshire Water; Sue Illman, Illman Young and President of the RTPI; Martin Fairley, ACO; Bridget Woods-Ballard, HR Wallingford; David Schofield, Hydro International; Jeremy Jones, Dwr Cymru Welsh Water; and Carolyn Roberts, Oxford University.
