THE INSPIRING SIGN It all began in the late 1980’s. A group of young people had gathered in a remote part of the Swedish forest to compete in a multi-sport competition in which several demanding events were carried out one after the other. This new sport was called foresting because the three events: crosscountry cycling, orienteering and long-distance canoeing were all done in the forest. The leaders were the Danish cyclist Axel Mortensen, the Norwegian orienteering champion Arild Haugen and the Swedish canoeist Arne Gunnarsson. One thing that they had in common was a strong conviction that the team was more important than the individual. To reinforce this belief, among other things, they had bought identical clothing that all of the participants used when training and competing. Furthermore, they came up with a sign that meant, “We are in this together.” The young people named it after their trainers, the A-code, which eventually became Acode.

All of the participants trained for two weeks to improve their strength, balance and speed. Through all of the hardships, they competed heroically against each other, but also with each other. Some times they did an Acode by gathering together round the campfire or in the main cabin. Competition and the competitive instinct went hand-in-hand with inspiration, team spirit and friendship. The competition was held on the last day and consisted of 50 km of cross-country cycling, 30 km of orienteering and 10 km of canoeing. As the trainers waited at the finish line for the winner, they were astonished to see all of the competitors paddling towards them side by side on the small lake. Just before crossing the finish line, they all put down their paddles and did an Acode. The trainers were so overjoyed that they jumped into the water and swam out to the group. There are other signs and ways of expressing a sense of togetherness, companionship and success. The classic “high five” is one of them, which is often used and much better known. As a rule, this works best man-to-man. But when it comes to inspiring togetherness, there is only one thing that matters: the Acode.

Our Powershell clothing is soft and comfortable – a great looking alter native to a sweatshirt. Perfect layer 2 garments. The shiny outside is dirt repellent, these garments retain their colour and shape wash after wash. The material’s smooth surface makes it ideal for printing logos.

Acode’s Softshell range comes in two different varieties. The traditional Softshell material is extremely wind and water resistant, has a hardwearing surface and on the inside a soft microfleece with membrane. Softshell Light is a lighter, softer and more flexible membrane-free material with stretch. It offers excellent breathability and a water-repellent surface.

layer-by-l ayer Some environments place higher demands on clothing than others. If you like being out in all weather, even in the cold, the wind or the rain, it is extremely important that you are properly dressed. By wearing different layers of clothing, moisture can be carried away from your body whilst wind and water are kept at bay. This means that your body stays warm and dry, even in harsh conditions. The inner layer, lying closest to your body, carries moisture away from your skin. The middle layer acts as an insulator, carrying the moisture further away. The third (or outer) layer keeps the wind and wet out, whilst still letting excess body heat escape.

2. The middle layer An airy middle layer keeps the heat in whilst letting moisture from the first layer escape. The heat is regulated by altering the thickness of the middle layer. Fleece or fake fur are good materials for this purpose.
