Shannon Bichard currently serves as an associate professor and chairperson for the Texas Tech University Department of Advertising & Brand Strategy in the College of Media and Communication. She has been a faculty member at Texas Tech since moving to Lubbock in 2001. As a born and raised Floridian, the transition was challenging, but ultimately the people of West Texas and the integrity at Texas Tech took hold of her heart. She now considers herself a true Texan with a deep love for wide open skies, tortillas, and the Red Raiders.

Her academic journey began with the pursuit of an undergraduate and then master’s degree in Communication from the University of Central Florida. During this time, Shannon was introduced to teaching and fell in love with the process of educating others. She went on to obtain her Ph.D. in Mass Communication with an emphasis on Advertising at the University of Florida. She became intrigued with the Advertising industry as it blended her love for creativity, strategy, and thinking outside the box. When Texas Tech offered her a job opportunity, Shannon knew that a faculty position in Advertising was a perfect fit.

Since arriving at TTU, Shannon has aspired to achieve balance while pursuing excellence in teaching, research, industry engagement, student advising, and administration, as well as honoring her family, faith, and friendships. Shannon teaches a variety of advertising courses, but her deepest passion is her work as the advisor for the AAF National Student Advertising Competition. As faculty advisor, she has worked with over 350 students on 20+ clients, won 1st place three times in District 10, and finally secured the national championship in 2022!

She continues scholarly research focused on advertising, consumer behavior, and social media. During her 20+ years as a communication scholar, she has published 1 book, 3 book chapters, 33 journal publications, and delivered 64 conference presentations. Shannon has also received multiple teaching and research awards, including induction into the prestigious Texas Tech Teaching Academy, the TTU President’s Excellence in Teaching Award, the TTU Mortar Board Apple Polishing Award, the College of Media & Communication Outstanding Researcher Award, and the AAF 10th District Educator of the Year Award.

Shannon Bichard has built her career in advertising by embracing the opportunity to support and encourage the success of others. As a teacher, colleague, advisor, and mentor- she has given her heart and soul to inspire those around her to reach their fullest potential. And she’s just getting started.
