Evolution of the Internet: Man has evolved through time; the evolution has taken many shapes and forms whether it be clothing or transportation. Even the way we buy things is now changing. Who would have thought about the word e-commerce before the 21 st century even if it was there it was not a world recognized term. There were times when people used to say “if we lose electricity we will go back to the Stone Age” even that quote has evolved with the time – now people say “if we lose the INTERNET we will go back to the Stone Age. Internet was initially designed to help the US military communicate ‘online’ with each other for their encrypted messages. It was like the Morse code transmission for the army except that it was much faster and digital in nature rather than magnetic pulses. The technology was then allowed to be used by the universities in the United States in order to help researchers communicate regarding their thesis and findings. The idea was later abandoned by the army and it was then that this network technology was taken up by National Science foundation that took the lead in commercializing the internet to the modern day social and professional communication outlook that we see today around us.

The internet was initially an analog to digital transformation through telephone lines and users would ‘Dial-up’ the internet to their service providers who would then connect the end user with the internet through the national telecommunication careers. That was fair to do so because of limited number of internet users and people were still adopting to change in their daily lives from the telephone and facsimile system, but as soon as the idea of internet became a revolution more and more people started adopting this technology to the extent that there was a cut through but a constructive competition to occupy ‘cyberspace’. The data became so huge that it was hard to search and sift through all that was available on the internet now. It was like medievallibrary concept where there were so many books and

texts that there was a proper algorithm required for allocating books on different shelves and retrieving them. Such was the case with the internet and so the revolutionary startups such as Yahoo & Google were formed that change the way we research for ever.

With these developments in the software technology through internet there were developments in the hardware as well to make the whole process faster and to transport this great amount of data in the form of books, pictures and videos from and so the coaxial cable was introduced to replace the twisted pair wire to transmit more data. The human race did not stop there and started transmitting more and more data at the ‘speed of light’ using fiber optic cables. The worldwide communication started taking through undersea cables and through satellites hovering the earth making the world shrink in to the cyber space. The powerful term e-commerce came into being through the use of internet and is widely accepted in the developed as well as emerging markets. For example now the Online Shopping in Pakistan is done through web portals such as www.acom.pk powered by ACOM solutions that offer users the choice to buy their favorite network or computing devices online offering the most competitive technology prices in Pakistan.
