Introduction The rainforest is an amazing place. It is full of life. The rainforest has a lot of different kinds of species of plants and animals. The rainforest also contains human life. There are tribes that live in the rainforest. Turn to the next page to find out more.

Location/Region

The rainforest is located in South America. The Rainforest is located in the northwest /southwest hemisphere. The Rainforest is located in many countries. Those countries are: Brazil, French Guiana, Ecuador, Bolivia, Suriname, Venezuela, and Guyana. The

latitude and longitude is 45-75 south latitude and 0-150 south latitude.

Layers The first layer of the rainforest is the Forest Floor this is the lowest Part of the rainforest. This is where tree roots are. Most animals that don’t climb or fly live here. Some animals that live here are the: Ant eater, the jaguar, and the Tapir. The forest floor is very dark because it’s hidden by all the trees. The next layer is the Under Story. This is the second layer of the rainforest. Lots of short trees are here. Some birds, snakes ,treefrogs, and flamingos. And monkeys, sloths jaguars and leopards live here too. This layer is also dark . The next layer is the Canopy. This is where Birds like the Toucan live here. You will also find hawks and their nest. Not many animals live in this part because it is so high up. This part has a lot of sunshine just like the Canopy.

Physical Features!!!!!!

The weather never gets under 65 degrees Fahrenheit, in the rainforest. The average temperature in the rainforest is 79 degrees Fahrenheit. The Climate zone is tropical wet/humid. The climate is very different here. In The Amazon you should expect rain almost every day. In the USA, You don’t get much. The average rainfall is 100 inches per year. The Rainforest has a lot of small streams and rivers. It also has a lot of Waterfalls.

ANIMALS My first animal is the JAGUAR. The Jaguar lives in the high canopy part of the rainforest. It has to adapt by using it’s spotted fur to hide while it’s hunting. The jaguars’ predators are mainly humans. The jaguar is excellent when it comes to camouflage. Their fur is used to blend in with the trees and other plants. The jaguars prey is spider monkeys, Cattle, tapirs, Peccaries, and some small birds. The jaguar is a Carnivore. My next animal is the Toucan. The Toucan is a type of bird. The toucan is well known for it’s huge color full beak. Some people don’t know this but the Toucans beak is mostly full of air. The Toucan is an omnivore. That means they eat both plants and animals. The Toucans habitat is in the high canopy part and sometimes the Emergent layer. The toucan

is Indigeounous ,to the south American Rainforest.

ANIMALS My last animal is the Morpho Butterfly. The morpho butterfly lives in the canopy and the high canopy part of the rainforest. The morpho butterfly is blue, black and white. The morpho butterfly adapted to the rainforest. The morphos adaptation is it uses wings to hide from predators. The under side is brown with eye spots and the top side is Blue,Black and White.Whe the Morpho is flying the colors collide wich makes it look like it’s dissapeering and appearing again and again. It also either hides I Foliage The Morpho is a herbivore wich means it eats fruit and meat. The morpho eats rotten fruit and small insects.

You could say that it is a decomposer.

Plants

My first plant is the Bromelaids. The Bromelaids live in the forest floor part of the rainforest. The Bromelaid is a very cool plant. The Bromelaid has shiney waxy leaves. The Bromeliads have a hole in the middle of the plant. When it rains the bromeliad catches the Rain water. That is what helps it grow. The water that is catched in the middle goes to the roots giving it water. Sometimes you can find tadpoles or Frogs in the center. The Bromelaid doesn’t really have any medical purposes. They do use Photosynthesis to make food for themselves.

My next plant is the Orchid. The orchid also lives on the forest floor. The Orchid has purple pink or white leaves.

The Orchid doesn’t have any medical purposes. But it is used for décor.

My

first tribe is the Yanomami tribe.

TRIBES

This tribe is located in South America. The Yanomani is one of the largest tribes in south America. They are Indigouenous the Yanomami tribes have 8.2 acres of land for there- selves. The Yanomani tribes live in Circular houses. They are constructed of leaf and vines and some sticks or limbs. The Yanomani do something they call Trading. They dig for gold and when they find it they take it to the trading place and trade it for other goods. The yanomani tribes use canoes or they walk to get to their destination. The Yanonani’s culture is different from ours. Their culture is like the modern day thing. There is many foods or not many clothes. They don’t have much. Also their houses are big and made out of brick.

My second tribe is the Pygmy tribe. The pygmy tribe is also located in south America. There are nomadics in this tribe..Nomads are the people whom don’t have a permanent place in the tribe. They go from one to another. The Pygmys’ village is located deep in the Rainforest. Their village is set up similar to the Yanomanis tribe. But the only

thing different, The yanomani’s center house is not for living like the pygmys. The center house is also known as an Communal house. The Communal house is a house built for celebration and festivals. The center of the Communal house is a living center, Where people who need help can go and live there. The village houses are constructed of vine and leaf thatch.

SAVING THE RAINFORSET

The Rainforest is a very important part of our world. A lot of the Worlds Oxygen comes from the rainforest. Without the Rainforest the world would not have some of it’s plants and animals that we have today. Not even some of the foods we have today.

We are now trying to prevent deforestation. Deforestation is what is causing the rainforest to basically die. Every day the size of the state Pennsylvania is being cut destroyed or burned from the rainforest. Pretty soon the Rainforest will be extinct. Deforestation is when people go and cut or burn the trees and plants that are in the Rainforest. That is messing up the food chain to. When ever one animal goes extinct the animal that eats or Consumes that animal will die to.

Conservation is when you try to conserve or save something. This is what we are doing with the Rainforest. We are trying to conserve it.When we are doing this, this is helping save the food chain and helping us keep a lot of

oxygen and a lot of the plants and animals and foods that we get from the Rainforest. If the rainforest ever went excinct we would not have them foods animals or plants.

Ecotourism is also like Conservation but has a difference.Ecotourism is when someone specifically tries to save the rainforest,or parts of it. Conservation is when we all are trying to save the rainforest. An ecotourist is what

you would call someone who does Ecotourism.

CONCLUSION Every day the size of Pennsylvania is being destroyed in the Rainforest. Soon the Rainforest will be gone. The Rainforest produces oxygen for us which is what we breathe. A lot of the Worlds animals and plants and also foods come from the Rainforest. Do you want some of our worlds precious animals and plants to be dead and homeless???

We can help to stop the Rainforest from being destroyed. If you help now, in the future you won’t regret helping out. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO HELP?
